Pete A. Turner is a former US Army Counterintelligence Agent with over a thousand missions in conflict zones in a variety of countries including: Bosnia, Egypt, Iraq and Afghanistan. His daily missions took him off-camp and out to find the people, information and secrets which enabled commanders to win and the US to reach its objectives.
Turner’s unique and constant access to the “Ground Truth” enabled him to develop industry-defining mastery in field collection. His collection methods, experience and insight repeatedly provided unparalleled guidance and improved accuracy for operations to US assets in combat zones.
By leveraging trust and professional-level cultural intelligence, Turner gained access to host national leaders, tribal elders and religious scholars. This access led to understanding the individual needs and challenges of these reclusive and uncooperative groups. Familiarizing with these factions led Turner to fresh insights and partnerships previously unavailable to deployed US elements.
Turner holds a BA in Mass Communication from Cal State University Hayward, and an MA in Organizational Management from University of Phoenix.
Turner has co-authored peer-reviewed articles on the Recognizing the Ethical Pitfalls of Female Engagement in Conflict Zones, “Boots on the ground” state-building: Using Action Research to improve local governance in Afghanistan, and Examining the “Ground Truth” from Military Operations in Afghanistan and Iraq:: Engaging Islam, State-Building, and NATO’s Involvement in Modern Conflicts. He is the co-author of Transition Operations a Discussion with 29 Articles detailing the doctrinal gap for US forces departing a partnered conflict zone.
Turner is the Executive Producer and Host of the Break It Down Show. Throughout the show’s 10+ years, and 2000 episodes, Turner has gathered insights from a vast array of experienced combat scholars, authors and professionals. He often combines guests in such a way as to blend experiences from various echelons of work and experience.
