Coming to you live from Edgewood American Legion, post-17, Harford County Living presents, Conversations with Rich Bennett.
Rich Bennett 0:30
I want to thank everybody for coming and before I get into the main reason why we're here, uhm, I gotta thank a lot of people, of course, because it wouldn't, I wouldn't be here doing this if it wasn't for them. All the
Robyn Burke 0:43
sponsors.
Rich Bennett 0:44
Ooh, man, Maryland Pickers, Serenity Salt Spa, Four Seasons Landscape at Construction Services, Harford County Chamber of Commerce, your pet, Power washing, Richardson Farms,
Wendy Beck 0:57
uh,
Rich Bennett 0:57

Kristy Breslin 1:20
They do like roofs or
Rich Bennett 1:22
And Freedom Federal Credit Union,
Wendy Beck 1:24
something.
Rich Bennett 1:25
so they've been, a lot of them had uh,
Wendy Beck 1:28
a
Rich Bennett 1:29
hub
Wendy Beck 1:30
was the first
Rich Bennett 1:31
sponsor, sponsor, uh, but all of them had sponsors for a long time. Um, and all my co-host, the original, the OG, could not be here because she's in Chicago for their anniversary, and that's Sarah Coleman, but a lot of them don't co-host anymore or they're not here, and that's Laal, Alicia, Colleen, Derek, Jennifer Page,
Wendy Beck 1:54
Danny,
Rich Bennett 1:55
Julia, Joe, Wendy, Greg, Michelle, Kayla, Tammy, Kelly, Kate, Danny, Ranya, Molly, Kelly, Robert,
Kristy Breslin 2:02
God, I, oh,
Rich Bennett 2:03
I'm done.
Robyn Burke 2:04
I
Rich Bennett 2:05
think that's enough. So, when I started this 10 years ago, it
Kristy Breslin 2:11
it was
Rich Bennett 2:11
was a
Wendy Beck 2:11
a,
Rich Bennett 2:12
spinoff of Harford County living, and the way it originally started, I'm sure Mosie heard this story as it started as a YouTube show and the camera either broke or stopped working halfway through. And afterwards, we did six at the radio station, and then afterwards, we moved down to Taiwan, Rowland, pubs, and started recording in the side room there, and made it an official podcast. Um, and then a few years later, I kept trying to get this young lady on, and she kept ignoring. Then, one nothing to do with me, and then when she finally came off where we recorded at, this was in the town, Rowland, pub we moved to where we record down person, and she walked in her first comment was, do you have an agent? Which scared the hell out of me because I thought she was talking about DJing or something, and I said, no, for what, because for the podcast, you need to go international, you need to change the name. It's like, oh, OK, and I think
Robyn Burke 3:09
you.
Kristy Breslin 3:11
I did it, and because I said your pigeon hole in yourself with harford County, you're much bigger than that. You got to make this worldwide, and he did.
Rich Bennett 3:19
So it was, it was Christie. Christie came up with the name conversations with Rich Bennett. The scary thing is, you remember when I told you before I changed the name?
Kristy Breslin 3:29
No,
Rich Bennett 3:29
I said, I had to check with my sponsors if they were OK with it, I would change it. And I wanted to see what the listeners would suggest. If any of you ever get into podcasting, never ask the listeners for a name for your podcast because some of the names are scary, the Richie Rich show.
Somebody said, talking dick. No, Scrooge, it wasn't Grinch. God. So anyways, it's because of Christie, and of course all the listeners, everything. But I got to give a big hand of Christie because
Joe Ayler 4:06
have
Rich Bennett 4:06
if I wouldn't
Joe Ayler 4:07
changed the name,
Rich Bennett 4:08
I don't think the podcast would be as big as it is now. And I looked at a lot of the numbers before we came. And now it's in the top 3% globally throughout the world, carried in over 110 different countries. It can't be carried in all the countries because some countries will not carry an explicit podcast. Sorry, Joe! Excuse me,
Kristy Breslin 4:39
Joe!
Rich Bennett 4:40
Believe it or not, less than 0.1% of podcasts make it to 10 years, less than 1% even make it to 750 episodes. So, it's because of this young lady to my left, Christie Brezlin, otherwise--
Kristy Breslin 4:59
Me way, way, way too much credit. I just suggested the name because honestly, when I heard it and I know Rich and I know his personality, it's engaging, I'm like, you need to reach more people. You don't want people to just think it's just hard for County. We want people everywhere to listen, and they are, and it's all of you. And
Rich Bennett 5:17
Joe, right? But the great thing is, she's always sending people nonprofits to my way to get on,
Wendy Beck 5:24
Joe. Hey,
Rich Bennett 5:24
and vice versa. So, which is all local nonprofits. And we met a lot of great people, but my biggest question is, for you, Christie, what the hell took so long for you to come on?
Kristy Breslin 5:38
Because I'm not that interesting. I pretend to be, but I'm not. I'm very boring. You can ask my kids, right, Joe?
Joe Ayler 5:46
Yes, you are very boring.
Kristy Breslin 5:47
See, told you, and he grew up with me. I've, anybody that needs blackmail on Joe, I am your girl.
Rich Bennett 5:54
Well, wait a minute. Fill us in.
Kristy Breslin 5:56
Oh no, you have to pay me.
Rich Bennett 5:58
What kind of pie.
Kristy Breslin 6:00
All right.
Rich Bennett 6:01
So I remember I remember the first that, when we did that record, and you said apparently, because you guys went to what elementary school together?
Kristy Breslin 6:07
Well, we've known it. Yeah, how long have we known each other, Joe? Like, since it's been a long forever, forever.
Joe Ayler 6:13
Probably since 1994
Kristy Breslin 6:16
Right?
Joe Ayler 6:16
or '93.
Kristy Breslin 6:18
Yeah, I mean, very, very long time knew a lot of the same friends, New Joe, when he was building Legos and now he's building houses. So I mean, and doing Roops. It's amazing. I like saying that I know Joe, because I'm just going to give you a plug here, just because I think
Wendy Beck 6:33
amazing.
Kristy Breslin 6:33
you're He is amazing at what he does, and one of the most giving people that I have ever met. I think he's given to probably every nonprofit. Galilee. It's amazing.
Joe Ayler 6:45
But
Rich Bennett 6:46
what's the story you told about all the girls back in school, and Joe?
Kristy Breslin 6:50
Oh my gosh, Joe was a little hotty.
Joe Ayler 6:52
Was this where this? Is this where this is going?
Kristy Breslin 6:56
Yes. Definitely. I've got homecoming pictures. I've just got random pictures of us hanging out at Southampton Middle School. I mean, Joe was a popular guy. Still is.
Rich Bennett 7:06
Wait a minute, you guys went to homecoming
Wendy Beck 7:08
together? No,
Kristy Breslin 7:08
we didn't go to homecoming together, but we went in the same group. We had the same group of friends.
Wendy Beck 7:12
We
Kristy Breslin 7:13
knew like the sapping tens and that kind of like brought us all together.
Rich Bennett 7:16
Alright, so another question I have for you and then I'm going to let any of them ask questions. With Hartford TV used to be Hartford cable network. You've been doing Hartford Magazine for years. I guess the biggest question and you get all these nonprofits on, why?
Kristy Breslin 7:32
Because you know as well as I do, all these non
Wendy Beck 7:36
profit.
Robyn Burke 7:38
Non-profits
Kristy Breslin 7:40
in Hartford County, isn't that right, Ron Filling? At least, I mean there's so many non-profits and it's hard to choose because they're all so amazing. So Hartford TV, I've been doing that. I'm 47. I'm going to be 48 in February. I started that when I
Wendy Beck 7:54
was 21,
Kristy Breslin 7:55
21. So it's a way to give these non-profits a voice. It's a way to give them a 30-minute show where they can actually send it out to other people and let them know who they are, what they are, and why they should contribute to that cause. So and I enjoy doing it. I've met so many wonderful people.
Rich Bennett 8:11
How many of you guys have actually watched it, Hartford Magazine? Well,
Kristy Breslin 8:15
Ron,
Rich Bennett 8:15
you've been on it,
Kristy Breslin 8:16
you?
Rich Bennett 8:16
haven't
Kristy Breslin 8:17
Many times. He's a frequent guest.
Wendy Beck 8:19
That's
Kristy Breslin 8:20
right.
Rich Bennett 8:22
Actually, Ron, since you retired, aren't you busier now that way you were working?
Those of you that ever want to retire, remember that,
Kristy Breslin 8:34
retire.
Rich Bennett 8:35
You're probably working harder now. Putting up with Linda.
Joe Ayler 8:41
All
Rich Bennett 8:42
right, so I'll rob a joke when he or anybody else. If you have any questions for Christie, now's your time to ask her. Be nice though.
Nobody's got qu--
Joe Ayler 8:56
I'll ask a question. So this isn't--
Kristy Breslin 8:59
Wait, are people on the panel allowed to ask?
Joe Ayler 9:01
This isn't really a question, but a thought. I know that in America. growing up and getting educated and you know high school college you're kind of precondition to leave the neighborhoods and the communities that that you grew up in. I'm gonna make you know I'm gonna make it and I'm gonna move and you see so many people moving out of the communities that they grew up in. Why do you think so many of us choose to stay here in Hartford when we've given you know when we've been given the opportunity to go elsewhere. What makes this community so special?
Kristy Breslin 9:43
Well because just like you Joe has always said to me one of the things that you've always said to me is I want to give back to the community that I grew up in. I had a great childhood here. I love Hartford County. I mean I remember Betsy the Cal I remember the Caymart. I mean I've got history here. I didn't want to leave. I absolutely love it and I've been blessed to be able to have a broadcasting job in my hometown which isn't an easy thing to do. So I didn't want to leave and I really like the people. And basically that's the long.
Rich Bennett 10:18
But you did leave, didn't
Kristy Breslin 10:19
you?
Rich Bennett 10:22
No. I thought you were living up a Pennsylvania.
Kristy Breslin 10:25
No, no, no, that's just no I am a Maryland girl through and through but I will admit I will admit. I was born in Philadelphia but I have lived here since I was three. So I think that counts and Joe and I are both Seymilton Wright Mustangs
Joe Ayler 10:42
you.
That was a move. There were the mustangs but that what that kind of came off like a move of a cow.
Kristy Breslin 10:52
Yeah. I'm like wow okay.
Joe Ayler 10:54
I can't nay so that kind
Kristy Breslin 10:58
The many talents of Joe. No it's just I mean you guys have agree
Wendy Beck 11:01
of.
Kristy Breslin 11:01
we've got a great community here and a lot of people have stayed just because our for county is our for county and it just continues to grow but do I wish we would have kept Betsy the cow yeah.
Wendy Beck 11:11
Yeah.
Kristy Breslin 11:12
Not came Mark though.
Rich Bennett 11:14
Betsy the cow would have been old and wrinkled by now.
Kristy Breslin 11:16
I still like cows Rich. I like cows.
Rich Bennett 11:20
So somebody must have liked
Kristy Breslin 11:22
Yeah exactly.
Rich Bennett 11:23
her.
Kristy Breslin 11:23
She's iconic.
Rich Bennett 11:24
She's iconic. It's probably made a good tea-boon steak or something.
Kristy Breslin 11:27
No he did not. No he did not. Can
Robyn Burke 11:30
this?
Kristy Breslin 11:30
you believe
Wendy Beck 11:31
No, not at all.
Rich Bennett 11:33
What was she a dairy cow?
Kristy Breslin 11:35
She was an icon right Joe. Right Robin? I mean there's pictures of her and then you know we like the cool Tolgate mall with the cool arcade and Hartford mall was cool. Yeah she
Wendy Beck 11:47
She
Kristy Breslin 11:48
was.
Wendy Beck 11:48
was.
Rich Bennett 11:48
A cow was in the easiest line
Joe Ayler 11:52
you don't remember that.
Rich Bennett 11:53
No in all honesty I don't remember. What's her name Betsy?
Kristy Breslin 11:57
Betsy the cow.
Rich Bennett 11:58
That's Betsy Betsy whatever
Kristy Breslin 12:00
the Betsy.
Rich Bennett 12:00
Oh until somebody talked about on the podcast and it's like. Who out there remembers this cow. Oh come on really?
Robyn Burke 12:10
Your wife remembers.
Rich Bennett 12:12
There she does. Oh she
Robyn Burke 12:13
Yes she does.
Rich Bennett 12:13
has her hand. Remember that cow.
Kristy Breslin 12:17
Be
Robyn Burke 12:18
just.
Kristy Breslin 12:19
Be just.
Rich Bennett 12:21
All right son. All right. Let me rephrase this. Does anybody under 60
Robyn Burke 12:26
remember that cow.
Rich Bennett 12:27
I worry. Wait a minute. I forgot my wife's under 60. Does anybody under 50
Wendy Beck 12:32
remember that cow.
Rich Bennett 12:34
You're just doing that. All right never mind. What that apparently
Kristy Breslin 12:42
not. No.
Rich Bennett 12:44
But apparently I mean she must have tasted good. What happened
Kristy Breslin 12:47
No.
Rich Bennett 12:47
to her? They're not seriously what
Joe Ayler 12:48
cow.
Rich Bennett 12:48
happened to the
Joe Ayler 12:49
Does anybody over 80 remember the
Kristy Breslin 12:55
cow. Well she probably went to cow heaven Rich.
Rich Bennett 12:59
All right cause I think the person I was on said the farmer she was was where
Kristy Breslin 13:05
the mole is yeah we're half remolished.
Rich Bennett 13:08
So they had either mover or something.
Kristy Breslin 13:10
I think she just when she passed they built them all. I don't know.
Rich Bennett 13:14
Maybe. Oh my God. So she's like half a she's buried under the mower or something.
Kristy Breslin 13:18
Could be
Rich Bennett 13:19
could be
Kristy Breslin 13:20
could be. Could be. Could be. You never know right.
Rich Bennett 13:21
She's
Wendy Beck 13:22
I
Rich Bennett 13:22
a research.
Wendy Beck 13:22
don't know.
Joe Ayler 13:25
Jimmy Huffed.
Wendy Beck 13:26
I remember the cow.
Rich Bennett 13:28
Jimmy, yeah. Jimmy Heifer. Jimmy Heifer is
Wendy Beck 13:31
very good. That was good. That was a good one.
Rich Bennett 13:35
I
Kristy Breslin 13:35
like it.
Rich Bennett 13:36
See Anybody got questions for Kristie because I know she gets up early for work, and I know she's got to get out of here. Anything else you want to say?
Kristy Breslin 13:44
Well I just want to say that I'm really excited for you Rich. I think this is so well deserved, and I think your podcast is amazing, and I think all of you coming out, I think you have wonderful support here, and I think it's just going to get bigger and better.
Rich Bennett 13:58
Oh well thank you, it's all
Robyn Burke 14:00
it's all
Rich Bennett 14:00
because
Robyn Burke 14:01
because
Wendy Beck 14:01
it's all because.
Kristy Breslin 14:01
No, no, I,
Rich Bennett 14:03
and of course
Robyn Burke 14:04
this.
Kristy Breslin 14:06
No, it's, you know, it's it's you. I just made a suggestion and you took it and look at it 700 50 episodes. It's incredible.
Robyn Burke 14:16
Oh
Kristy Breslin 14:18
he doesn't listen to me
Robyn Burke 14:19
Robin.
Rich Bennett 14:20
Well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. No, my waist back there not in her head, and agree. I listen to you.
Robyn Burke 14:29
She said we know what to do if you wanted to do something, send Christian email.
Rich Bennett 14:34
All right, I got to admit, though, here's the funny thing. So I dropped my daughter off at work this morning, and she wasn't feeling and I come home, I was like, man, my body was aching and everything, and
Kristy Breslin 14:50
this
Rich Bennett 14:50
is not good. Had a low grade fever. 99.6 damn, this is not good. So I figured I lay down and pop two Tylenol. It was within 15 minutes. I get a call from Christie talking to her. And I don't know what the hell it, what definitely wasn't the Tylenol Tylenol can't kick in that fast.
All of a sudden, I just started feeling better
Robyn Burke 15:16
because she's so motivation.
Rich Bennett 15:18
It's like she just released that
Kristy Breslin 15:20
I
Rich Bennett 15:20
positive.
Kristy Breslin 15:21
was complaining because I'm getting migraine. So,
Rich Bennett 15:24
like,
Robyn Burke 15:25
oh, I better shut off.
Rich Bennett 15:27
Well, no, you know, what was I giving you a migraine when you were talking to me?
Kristy Breslin 15:31
Oh, no, not today.
Rich Bennett 15:32
Oh,
Kristy Breslin 15:33
no, no, no, of course,
Robyn Burke 15:35
not different day, but
Kristy Breslin 15:36
Yeah,
Robyn Burke 15:36
not
Kristy Breslin 15:36
different day, not today, not today. I'm not used to these migraines, so I was just kind of going back and forth with Rich about them. I think it's just like lack of sleep. My daughter is a type one diabetic, and her numbers have been through the roof lately. They've been really hard to handle.
Wendy Beck 15:50
today.
Kristy Breslin 15:50
So I follow her on my phone on my app, so I'm looking at her numbers like every 10 minutes to making sure that she's okay.
Yeah, yeah, she's doing good. It's just, you know, unfortunately, there's no cure for type one diabetes in Madison is 16. And she's in high
Robyn Burke 16:09
school.
Kristy Breslin 16:10
very active. So we have days, your number's supposed to be between 80 and 120. We have days where her number can go as low as 50 and days that can go as high as 400. So it's, it's hard to control it really is, but we try and be optimistic
Wendy Beck 16:23
She's
Kristy Breslin 16:23
about it. But as a parent, you know, you worry.
Rich Bennett 16:27
Which you still have to bring her on so we can do a podcast about diabetes.
Kristy Breslin 16:31
Yeah,
Robyn Burke 16:32
yeah,
Kristy Breslin 16:33
because type one, it's, I remember taking her to the doctor's and the doctor told me he said since COVID, their caseload has gone up 400% for type one diabetics.
Wendy Beck 16:47
Wow,
Kristy Breslin 16:47
yep. So,
Robyn Burke 16:49
why?
I
Kristy Breslin 16:53
guess it's just I COVID was destroying the the pancreas is
Wendy Beck 16:59
like.
Kristy Breslin 17:00
I don't think they really know,
Robyn Burke 17:02
No,
Kristy Breslin 17:02
but it had a major impact on
Robyn Burke 17:04
them.
Oh, whatever, I have a big enough amount that don't need to, but anyway, I figured I'd say before you did that they're, they're finding out a lot of the type one is autoimmune.
Kristy Breslin 17:21
Yeah. Yeah.
Robyn Burke 17:23
which
Kristy Breslin 17:23
It's
Robyn Burke 17:23
was shocking.
Kristy Breslin 17:24
It really is shocking. I mean, but, you know, it's a bad attitude. I have to keep a positive attitude. So she keeps a positive attitude, but you know, some days it's hard.
Rich Bennett 17:36
Well, Chrissy, I want to say I'm looking at the time I know you got a rock and
Kristy Breslin 17:39
Yeah
Rich Bennett 17:39
roll, but.
Kristy Breslin 17:40
and
Rich Bennett 17:40
thank you so much, what?
Kristy Breslin 17:41
No, I just want to say I'm just so proud of you.
No, not today, maybe tomorrow. But thank you guys for welcoming me on. Thank you for letting me be a part of this. It is so exciting. And like I said, I'm so proud. And Rich has like he's got ROM. He's got Joe. He's got Wendy and oh my goodness. What he has done with, you know, I'll segue over to you. What he has done for the recovery community. Absolutely. Amazing.
Rich Bennett 18:10
That's
Wendy Beck 18:11
Yes,
Rich Bennett 18:11
Wendy.
Wendy Beck 18:12
yeah. No, I'm going to hand it to Wendy. He has is very dedicated.
Rich Bennett 18:21
Uh, I want to give a huge shout out to a key player behind the scenes of the show, Freedom Federal Credit Union. You know, running a podcast involves more than just microphones and stories. It requires solid financial management. And that's where Freedom Federal Credit Union comes in. They're not just a credit union. There are community partner that I trust deeply. Their support helps us keep bringing you the stories you love episode after episode. And what really sets Freedom Federal Credit Union apart is their dedication to local businesses. They offer everything from business loans to incredible resources, ensuring companies like mine thrive. And it's all wrapped in top notch customer service. So if you're a business owner looking for a financial institution that supports your goals and invests in our community, I can't recommend Freedom Federal Credit Union enough. Swing by their at FreedomFCU. org, or give them a call at 1-800-440-4120. A while ago, this young lady has been on twice. The first time she came on, I forget what I named it, the title of the podcast was something like, uh,
Michelle Hayes 19:39
it
Rich Bennett 19:39
doesn't matter how short you are, you can kick somebody's guest or something like that. Well, you'll understand why, when in a minute when she walks up here. But it was one of the most listened to podcast. And then she came on a second time, oh, Michelle, you need to grab a seat too. And she's also the sensei for my niece. And yeah, actually, are you part owner or you just worked there?
Yeah, whatever.
Michelle Hayes 20:12
You're part
Rich Bennett 20:13
owner. She's the part owner. So, yeah, uh, Sensei Sidney Brackens. Come on up here, man.
Robyn Burke 20:22
Okay. What is the sensei?
Rich Bennett 20:24
Oh my god. Okay.
Michelle Hayes 20:26
first
Rich Bennett 20:26
Look, you got your ready.
Michelle Hayes 20:30
You get to say.
Rich Bennett 20:31
I didn't wait me. You took
karate when you were a kid.
Robyn Burke 20:39
Richie, my, my ability with karate was making the swishing noises with my mouth.
Rich Bennett 20:51
Sidney
Robyn Burke 20:51
I don't think that
Rich Bennett 20:52
explained to
Robyn Burke 20:52
counted.
Rich Bennett 20:52
my sister what Sensei is.
Sydeney Brackins 20:56
Yes. So a sensei, the word sensei translates directly to teacher. It's Japanese.
Robyn Burke 21:02
Okay.
Sydeney Brackins 21:03
So the reason why my title is sensei is because we teach Japanese. What's it, which is a mixed martial art?
Robyn Burke 21:09
Okay.
Rich Bennett 21:10
Do you know what that is? Ramen.
Robyn Burke 21:12
Fiask. A blood note. Remember.
Rich Bennett 21:14
It takes Juan.
Robyn Burke 21:15
Whatever.
Rich Bennett 21:16
The difference. Oh,
Robyn Burke 21:20
Splendid
Rich Bennett 21:20
difference.
Sydeney Brackins 21:22
Absolutely. Um, I
Michelle Hayes 21:24
basically
Sydeney Brackins 21:24
think it's
Michelle Hayes 21:24
thing to like know
Sydeney Brackins 21:26
you focus heavily on forms,
Michelle Hayes 21:29
on
Sydeney Brackins 21:30
strikes,
Michelle Hayes 21:30
blocks
Sydeney Brackins 21:31
and a most type modern day. You know. School's will
Michelle Hayes 21:34
gear their students more
Sydeney Brackins 21:36
competition, um, like point sparring. In our style, uh, Japanese jiu jitsu, it's very heavily focused on
Michelle Hayes 21:44
practical self facts.
Sydeney Brackins 21:45
So we do everything from standing sparring to takedowns, like judo throws to even groundwork, like Brazilian jiu jitsu. And a fun fact is that both Brazilian jiu jitsu and judo come what we do when you trace the history line. Our kids are very well-rounded
Michelle Hayes 22:03
fighters.
Rich Bennett 22:04
How do you understand, Robin?
Robyn Burke 22:05
I do.
Rich Bennett 22:06
Are you sure?
Sydeney Brackins 22:07
Still make the wishing sounds.
Robyn Burke 22:09
Okay. All right. Good. Good. I
Sydeney Brackins 22:11
That
Robyn Burke 22:11
can do
Sydeney Brackins 22:11
doesn't
Robyn Burke 22:11
that.
Sydeney Brackins 22:11
go.
Robyn Burke 22:11
Really good. I can do the wishing sounds good.
Sydeney Brackins 22:14
Music playing in the background.
Robyn Burke 22:16
I
Michelle Hayes 22:17
have a question. Do you do marital counseling?
Sydeney Brackins 22:20
You know, it's funny. I always say that couples that train together, stay together because they just do get out on the mat. But yes,
Michelle Hayes 22:29
do you know did?
Rich Bennett 22:30
Did you say marital counseling?
Michelle Hayes 22:32
Yeah, I've only been married like a year and a half, almost two years now. We're newly wedged.
Rich Bennett 22:38
Why do you need to go to her for marriage counseling?
Michelle Hayes 22:41
Because it sounds like to kick his ass.
Rich Bennett 22:43
You leave my mutual
Sydeney Brackins 22:45
As we say, Rich, what
Michelle Hayes 22:46
loan.
Sydeney Brackins 22:47
happens on the mat stays on the mat?
Rich Bennett 22:49
Oh, God.
Robyn Burke 22:50
Ah, that's good.
Michelle Hayes 22:51
Oh, no.
Sydeney Brackins 22:52
Still has to, has to, you know, fight something out. Well then the agreement is, you fight it out on the mat, and as soon as you step off the mat, you guys are good.
Michelle Hayes 23:16
You know what I mean?
Rich Bennett 23:18
Ah, 'cause she's the oldest one here, she's 70, so I just wanted to see if...
Sydeney Brackins 23:24
So, Robin is
Joe Ayler 23:27
Kick
Sydeney Brackins 23:27
quite
Joe Ayler 23:27
his
Sydeney Brackins 23:27
young
Joe Ayler 23:28
ass.
Sydeney Brackins 23:28
because my
Robyn Burke 23:29
student
Sydeney Brackins 23:29
oldest
Robyn Burke 23:30
is
Sydeney Brackins 23:30
77.
Rich Bennett 23:31
There you go, Robin, see?
Joe Ayler 23:32
I still hurt for your
Rich Bennett 23:33
Scrooge,
Joe Ayler 23:33
rich.
Rich Bennett 23:34
you can even take
Sydeney Brackins 23:36
it.
Joe Ayler 23:37
I'd love to see
Michelle Hayes 23:39
San.
Joe Ayler 23:39
I want to see that. You know, in a... in a Jiu Jitsu
Robyn Burke 23:41
Oh
Joe Ayler 23:41
match.
Robyn Burke 23:42
my gosh. Wouldn't
Sydeney Brackins 23:44
Against...
Wendy Beck 23:44
There
Robyn Burke 23:44
that
Wendy Beck 23:44
you go.
Robyn Burke 23:45
be
Rich Bennett 23:45
What?
Robyn Burke 23:46
fun?
Sydeney Brackins 23:46
Yeah,
Joe Ayler 23:46
Yes,
Sydeney Brackins 23:47
again.
Joe Ayler 23:47
get it,
Robyn Burke 23:47
Yeah!
Joe Ayler 23:47
get that started.
Rich Bennett 23:48
I thought you said
Michelle Hayes 23:49
Yes.
Rich Bennett 23:49
against...
Sydeney Brackins 23:49
No, no, faith.
Joe Ayler 23:51
This season, Santa, energy Jitsu match.
Rich Bennett 23:59
Yeah, I first of all, faith
Michelle Hayes 24:00
I
Rich Bennett 24:00
would...
Michelle Hayes 24:00
feel like we could pay per view that.
Rich Bennett 24:02
Faith would not do that to me.
Michelle Hayes 24:04
Oh yeah. Fundraise
Sydeney Brackins 24:08
for the non-profits.
Michelle Hayes 24:09
Right?
Robyn Burke 24:09
Yeah!
Joe Ayler 24:11
Watch you get your ass.
Robyn Burke 24:12
We could go on the ring in the middle of the college.
Sydeney Brackins 24:15
All right, it's already...
Joe Ayler 24:16
Yeah.
Michelle Hayes 24:18
This is a new fundraiser for Rape.
Joe Ayler 24:20
Boy.
Wendy Beck 24:21
Yeah, right.
Robyn Burke 24:21
You started it.
Rich Bennett 24:23
No, I asked about age. And then all
Robyn Burke 24:26
sudden...
Rich Bennett 24:26
of a
Michelle Hayes 24:28
All
Rich Bennett 24:28
Oh
Robyn Burke 24:29
my gosh. It's good.
Rich Bennett 24:30
so Sidney. Those of... Those
Robyn Burke 24:32
right,
Rich Bennett 24:32
people that didn't hear that first episode explain... What you had to do when you walked into... Was it a closet or a bathroom?
Sydeney Brackins 24:43
it
Michelle Hayes 24:43
Yes,
Sydeney Brackins 24:43
was kind of both.
Rich Bennett 24:43
Oh, okay.
Sydeney Brackins 24:45
So, no.
Michelle Hayes 24:45
In our
Sydeney Brackins 24:46
Style,
Michelle Hayes 24:46
staff,
Sydeney Brackins 24:46
we have... Again, our whole goal is self-defense. So, in order to actually
Michelle Hayes 24:52
we
Sydeney Brackins 24:52
teach
Michelle Hayes 24:52
teach
Sydeney Brackins 24:53
people
Michelle Hayes 24:53
people...
Sydeney Brackins 24:53
how to protect themselves, you need to do what's called S-I-T or stress inoculation testing. Because you could learn all these cool moves, right? But if you're not put under pressure, you have no idea if they'll actually work, because the flight or flight response kicks in, right? So, I remember I had been training for like a couple months. I walk into the dojo, and my teacher says, "Hey, I need you to go lock yourself in that bathroom for a second." I immediately knew what was coming, but the part of S-I-T's is that they're surprises. You don't know what's going to happen, and that's the point, is so that they see how you deal with pressure, right? So, knock goes on the door, and I'm told to come out, so I come out, and there were six students in class that night, besides myself. And there were two... Basically, they made two rows, so three and three. And I saw, while looking at the students, everyone had a knife in their hand. Obviously, a training knife, not a real one. I'm not that good, so my instructor told me, "No, just need you to walk in between everybody, like forward and back." I was like, "That's it? He was like, that's it." So, I was like, "I'm sure." Okay, so, I start walking in between everybody, and at random, he would call out numbers. Everybody was assigned a number. I just didn't know who was what number. So, technically, like, if I was walking past you, like, "I was over there," he could have called your number, so you'd be coming at me from behind, right? So, I took down about three students, disarmed them, but then the fourth student came, who was my training partner, Adam. To give you a picture of Adam, he's very close to six foot, not quite six foot, and he probably weighs well over 300 pounds. So, Adam comes at me with a knife and just straight stab towards my
Michelle Hayes 26:45
stomach.
Sydeney Brackins 26:47
I managed to stop the attack. I got my body out of the way, the knife didn't nick me. But in that moment, because of his size, I
Michelle Hayes 26:54
just froze.
Sydeney Brackins 26:56
And he saw me freeze, and then proceeded to stab me like 36 times. So yeah, and then
Michelle Hayes 27:04
So,
Sydeney Brackins 27:04
eventually
Michelle Hayes 27:04
actually,
Sydeney Brackins 27:04
like we kept going, right? The point was you don't stop. Even though I would be dead, you don't stop. You don't quit. You
Michelle Hayes 27:10
let
Sydeney Brackins 27:10
don't
Michelle Hayes 27:10
me
Sydeney Brackins 27:11
give
Michelle Hayes 27:11
talk
Sydeney Brackins 27:11
up
Michelle Hayes 27:11
about
Sydeney Brackins 27:11
on
Michelle Hayes 27:11
yourself.
Sydeney Brackins 27:11
yourself. So eventually I did disarm him, right? But it took a long time. And so that was my indoctrination to go to the next level. And after that class, I was scarred a little bit. But it was a good lesson. It really taught me like house milliseconds count in a fight.
Michelle Hayes 27:30
[ Inaudible Remark ]
Sydeney Brackins 27:30
Because I mean, he read my expression in less than a second to determine like, she's not going to do anything. I'm going to keep going. So
Rich Bennett 27:37
C. Joe, this is the shit that they're taught there. And you want me to go against my niece who's been
Robyn Burke 27:42
yeah.
Rich Bennett 27:42
there for how long?
Michelle Hayes 27:43
Yes,
Sydeney Brackins 27:44
years.
Joe Ayler 27:46
It would be very entertaining.
Sydeney Brackins 27:48
You know what? Rich should go through that same test I went through. I think that's a really good.
Michelle Hayes 27:54
Santa's Smackdown.
Sydeney Brackins 27:55
Oh, that would be the episode name. Santa's
Joe Ayler 27:59
Yeah,
Sydeney Brackins 27:59
Smackdown.
Joe Ayler 27:59
this Santa
Michelle Hayes 28:00
Smackdown.
Joe Ayler 28:00
This is happening.
Sydeney Brackins 28:02
Oh,
Michelle Hayes 28:02
yeah.
Joe Ayler 28:03
Yeah. So you got this bewildered look on
Michelle Hayes 28:05
It's
Joe Ayler 28:05
your.
Michelle Hayes 28:05
great marketing.
Sydeney Brackins 28:06
We can even make it more fun. So they make this product called a taser knife. So.
Joe Ayler 28:11
Yeah, boy.
Sydeney Brackins 28:12
I
Rich Bennett 28:13
Oh,
Sydeney Brackins 28:13
think.
Rich Bennett 28:13
wait a minute, do I get to hold the
Michelle Hayes 28:15
taser like? No,
Sydeney Brackins 28:17
no. Come on, you're like your your your a vet.
Joe Ayler 28:20
You're getting tased, dude,
Michelle Hayes 28:22
yeah.
Joe Ayler 28:23
That's going to
Rich Bennett 28:24
great.
Joe Ayler 28:24
be
Rich Bennett 28:24
I don't have as much.
Joe Ayler 28:25
God, that's going
Rich Bennett 28:26
look
Joe Ayler 28:26
to
Rich Bennett 28:26
like I used to to block all that.
Michelle Hayes 28:28
You better start training.
Sydeney Brackins 28:30
Muscle.
Joe Ayler 28:31
right in the
Sydeney Brackins 28:31
Got
Joe Ayler 28:31
neck.
Sydeney Brackins 28:32
this
Rich Bennett 28:32
What did he write in the neck? What the hell, Joe,
Michelle Hayes 28:35
I'll make sure it's live streamed.
Joe Ayler 28:37
We'll wrap Christmas lights around you in you can you can light up. You know,
Michelle Hayes 28:41
I
Sydeney Brackins 28:43
love that. That's a great idea. This is happening.
Rich Bennett 28:47
I don't know what
Michelle Hayes 28:48
I
Rich Bennett 28:49
did to Joe, but
apparently it happened a long time ago, because Kristi is not here anymore, but me, Joe, Christy, and
Joe Ayler 29:02
yeah,
Rich Bennett 29:03
they said they wanted to do a photoshoot with me as Santa, which I did. Joe decided Santa with Garland.
Sydeney Brackins 29:14
I
Rich Bennett 29:15
mean,
Sydeney Brackins 29:16
God.
Rich Bennett 29:17
Yeah, so what did
Joe Ayler 29:19
I do? I don't
Rich Bennett 29:19
know.
Joe Ayler 29:20
Something, maybe in a previous life.
Rich Bennett 29:22
Man,
Joe Ayler 29:23
cow.
Rich Bennett 29:23
holy
Michelle Hayes 29:24
I really like Joe.
Robyn Burke 29:27
We
Michelle Hayes 29:28
could hang out.
Rich Bennett 29:28
All right. Well, then you got to get this fundraiser. No taser knife, but you got.
Michelle Hayes 29:33
don't
Robyn Burke 29:33
I
Rich Bennett 29:34
know if it's a fundraiser. I'll do it.
Joe Ayler 29:36
All right.
Sydeney Brackins 29:37
deal? You're going to shake on
Rich Bennett 29:38
What
Sydeney Brackins 29:39
it?
Michelle Hayes 29:40
Do I need a picture of the show? So cross your fingers behind
Sydeney Brackins 29:42
your back, your back rich.
Rich Bennett 29:43
Oh, wait. I mean, it's that full contact, right?
Michelle Hayes 29:46
100%.
Joe Ayler 29:46
Yeah. So yeah, dude. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 29:48
Oh crap.
Sydeney Brackins 29:50
All right.
Michelle Hayes 29:51
It's happening.
Joe Ayler 29:52
You're going to be hurting.
Rich Bennett 29:52
All
Michelle Hayes 29:53
Do
Rich Bennett 29:53
right, what?
Michelle Hayes 29:53
this.
Rich Bennett 29:53
Who we raise the funds for?
Joe Ayler 29:55
I get
Rich Bennett 29:55
to pick.
Sydeney Brackins 29:57
Yeah. I think
Joe Ayler 29:58
yes.
Sydeney Brackins 29:58
that's, Yeah, I think
Joe Ayler 29:59
that's the one that's taking the beating, yes.
Rich Bennett 30:02
OK.
Michelle Hayes 30:04
OK. Are we placing bets?
Rich Bennett 30:06
No, it ain't happening now.
Sydeney Brackins 30:07
That's
Michelle Hayes 30:07
how I want to be the 70175
Sydeney Brackins 30:10
first episode.
Michelle Hayes 30:11
OK.
Rich Bennett 30:11
What?
Sydeney Brackins 30:13
That's going to be when it happens.
Rich Bennett 30:14
That means we'd have to do it there.
Sydeney Brackins 30:16
Yeah, exactly.
Michelle Hayes 30:18
Oh.
Rich Bennett 30:20
Nah, that's too close. You got to get enough time to build it up.
Sydeney Brackins 30:24
750
Rich Bennett 30:25
seconds. You've got to also allow me to have a taser knife so I could try it,
Michelle Hayes 30:29
[INAUDIBLE]
Rich Bennett 30:29
all of a-- Get used to it.
Sydeney Brackins 30:32
Just buy those gag gift like the sticks of gum.
Michelle Hayes 30:35
I'm
Sydeney Brackins 30:35
I'm
Michelle Hayes 30:35
sure
Sydeney Brackins 30:35
sure
Michelle Hayes 30:35
it's like
Sydeney Brackins 30:35
it's the
Michelle Hayes 30:35
the
Sydeney Brackins 30:36
same
Michelle Hayes 30:36
same thing.
Sydeney Brackins 30:36
thing.
Michelle Hayes 30:36
Yeah.
Robyn Burke 30:37
You're
Rich Bennett 30:38
sure it's like this, have you tried it?
Sydeney Brackins 30:40
A taser
Rich Bennett 30:41
knife? Yeah,
Joe Ayler 30:41
s---
Rich Bennett 30:42
on your
Joe Ayler 30:42
taser
Sydeney Brackins 30:42
Yes.
Joe Ayler 30:42
knife?
Sydeney Brackins 30:43
It's like probably 10 packs of those like gag sticks of gum.
Rich Bennett 30:48
Are you sure one pack?
Sydeney Brackins 30:50
Well, you know, we give her take a few. I'm trying to make you feel better, Rich.
Joe Ayler 30:55
We're just-- we're brainstorming and just coming up with great ideas here.
Rich Bennett 30:59
Before I get into any more trouble, does anybody have any questions for Sydney?
Sydeney Brackins 31:03
No point.
Rich Bennett 31:06
Sydney, I want to-- actually, I want to
Robyn Burke 31:08
do one--
Sydeney Brackins 31:08
Oh, boy.
Rich Bennett 31:10
No, because apparently-- and when I first started this-- well, let me just ask you this-- so when I asked you to-- because you came and recorded in person, you didn't have a clue on who I was. So, right?
Michelle Hayes 31:25
Random man.
Rich Bennett 31:27
How do you know who I was?
Sydeney Brackins 31:28
From Lewis.
Rich Bennett 31:30
Lewis didn't know me. The first time you came on? Not the
Sydeney Brackins 31:33
but the time-- From
Rich Bennett 31:33
second time,
Sydeney Brackins 31:34
the--
Rich Bennett 31:34
Because you don't remember recording.
Sydeney Brackins 31:36
Rich, I knew you were going to bring that up.
Michelle Hayes 31:38
All
Sydeney Brackins 31:39
We
Rich Bennett 31:39
right.
Sydeney Brackins 31:39
are definitely doing taser knives now.
Rich Bennett 31:41
All right, so--
Robyn Burke 31:42
I'll
Rich Bennett 31:42
Why,
Sydeney Brackins 31:44
give you two.
Rich Bennett 31:44
why did you decide to go ahead and come on? the
Sydeney Brackins 31:48
That is
Rich Bennett 31:48
first time if you can't remember.
Sydeney Brackins 31:51
Oh, Rich, you were going to have so much fun at this, uh, Smackdown event. So I, I came onto the podcast because I, so I went to college for
Robyn Burke 32:04
McDonald's
Sydeney Brackins 32:04
engineering, believe it or not,
Robyn Burke 32:06
for engineering,
Sydeney Brackins 32:06
and uhm, I didn't really have a passion for it. I just went that route. My uncle did engineering and he worked for Lockheed, so I was like, you know, he took me to work one day. It was one of those
Michelle Hayes 32:18
like
Sydeney Brackins 32:19
programs where,
Michelle Hayes 32:20
it's
Sydeney Brackins 32:20
a work day, right? And I was like, oh, this is really cool. I could see myself doing this. But I didn't have a passion for it. When I
Michelle Hayes 32:27
stepped into
Sydeney Brackins 32:27
school for the first time, it became my passion, and that's why I still do this to, to this day, and that was 10 years ago.
Michelle Hayes 32:32
the
Sydeney Brackins 32:33
And, uhm, I absolutely love it so much, and I see lives change in front of my eyes every day with kids, teens and adults that I was like, if, if this is a platform where I might be
Robyn Burke 32:47
in the
Sydeney Brackins 32:48
corner of Senator, then I absolutely want to do that because so many people are in need of a community, uhm, more, a better sense of self-esteem, a more fun way to
Michelle Hayes 32:59
get to
Sydeney Brackins 33:00
They
Michelle Hayes 33:00
shapes.
Sydeney Brackins 33:00
want to be in, uhm, or they're a parent struggling and they don't know what to get their child involved with, like a safe and encouraging community.
Rich Bennett 33:09
Right.
Sydeney Brackins 33:10
Uhm, and we do that. So if I could just get one person to listen to what I have to say and trust me enough to take a chance and try it, like that was my goal. And then I met you at the same time, which is awesome.
Joe Ayler 33:24
But, but do you think, let me, so you think that training Jiu Jitsu is more like discipline, mindset, fitness, rather than real-world scenario having to protect yourself. Right. Because you could go your whole life and never be in a situation where you're attacked in public, right? It just, right. I mean, it happens, but it does not happen all the time.
Sydeney Brackins 33:48
Yeah,
Joe Ayler 33:48
Right.
Sydeney Brackins 33:49
absolutely.
Joe Ayler 33:49
You know,
Sydeney Brackins 33:50
I, so two ways to answer what you just said, uhm, because it's two different things I tell my
Robyn Burke 33:55
students,
Sydeney Brackins 33:56
same topic. Training is 80% mental, 20% physical. And at the end of the day, like, I hope, like, even if Faith trains with me for years and years, I hope she never has to use a single thing I teach her. So, yes, the transferable mental skills, that's what we're trying to give students to set them up for success in their lives. So with kids and teens, especially, I want to give them the skills to be leaders, no matter where they go in life. Leaders in their household, in their classrooms, and eventually in their future careers. Because they're going to have time
Michelle Hayes 34:33
Right.
Sydeney Brackins 34:33
management skills. They're going to understand how to be
Michelle Hayes 34:36
independent,
Sydeney Brackins 34:36
so they don't rely on others
Michelle Hayes 34:38
do
Sydeney Brackins 34:38
to
Michelle Hayes 34:39
everything
Sydeney Brackins 34:39
For them, they're going to have the ability to persevere through challenges. Because that's the biggest thing with kids that I see nowadays. They quit
Michelle Hayes 34:48
for them.
Sydeney Brackins 34:48
so easily. I always give challenges to my students. Things I know that they're going to look at, and they've never tried before, and the response I get nine out ten times when I ask, "Do you think you can do this?" They say, "No." I'm like, "But have you ever tried?" And they'll go, "No." I'm like, "Then how do you know? Why are you giving up on yourself?" So it's all about training the mindset so that you talk positively to yourself. You set yourself up for success by navigating your own
Michelle Hayes 35:18
attitude.
Sydeney Brackins 35:19
so that's the real big thing people get out of the program is that, well, for lack of a better term, attitude adjustment. Especially with kids as well, is emotional management.
Michelle Hayes 35:30
And
Sydeney Brackins 35:30
Knowing what to do with sadness, anger, frustration,
Michelle Hayes 35:34
to
Sydeney Brackins 35:34
and how
Michelle Hayes 35:35
ask accordingly
Sydeney Brackins 35:36
on it, and not let it, the
Michelle Hayes 35:37
emotion,
Sydeney Brackins 35:38
rule their lives. And with adults, I would say the biggest
Michelle Hayes 35:43
themselves
Sydeney Brackins 35:43
thing I hear from them in terms of what they get out of Japanese Jitsu, is a feeling of inner peace, because by
Robyn Burke 35:52
training,
Sydeney Brackins 35:52
yeah, they feel more secure with themselves and their ability
Robyn Burke 35:56
to…
Sydeney Brackins 35:56
potentially protect themselves, but inner peace in the sense of they're doing something to benefit them physically, mentally, emotionally, all of the above. And a lot of people need that, because we're just so busy nowadays. Like, I remember when I first started. I had a lot of households where it was, you know, husband worked. home. Nowadays, most of the case, it's both parents are working and in some of the cases, it's both parents work two jobs each. And so that leaves very little room for them to do anything for themselves. And so a lot of these adults that come into the studio, this is their thing, their, their release of all the stress in their life. And so, yeah, to answer your question, Joe, like, more than anything else, more than the self-defense, it's an escape. It's a, it's a, like, course for, for people to better themselves and to feel like my life is headed in a good direction.
Rich Bennett 36:55
That was a good question, Joe. So good that I think you should dress up as my "Oh, for this fundraiser we're going to do".
Joe Ayler 37:02
No, dude. They don't, eh. One
Rich Bennett 37:03
things
Joe Ayler 37:04
of the
Rich Bennett 37:04
that matters is always
Joe Ayler 37:04
to
Rich Bennett 37:04
has
Joe Ayler 37:05
be the first. I'm dangerous.
Rich Bennett 37:10
Anybody got any questions for Sydney?
Joe Ayler 37:11
The Elf can
Wendy Beck 37:12
Do,
Joe Ayler 37:12
fight.
Wendy Beck 37:12
I have a question.
Okay.
Rich Bennett 37:14
Okay.
Wendy Beck 37:14
I have a question. Can you give, um, a timeline of when you start to see the transformation? If someone comes, is it like a month, a week, you know, six weeks? Just curious.
Sydeney Brackins 37:26
Yeah, that's a really good question and a very, my kids.
Difficult one to answer, because there's no, like, black and white answer. However, I will say, everyone hits different milestones and depending on the age, the milestones occur at different points. So the younger the students, so
Michelle Hayes 37:41
like,
Sydeney Brackins 37:41
like if you take the age group of three to five, you see the changes really quick. When you go to, like, six to 10, a little more slowly, but definitely within first month, you see those new habits developing. And then teens and adults a little later. And the whole reason for that is just brain development. The younger you are, your mind's more like a sponge, so you receive new things a lot faster and you can change your routines and your habits at a faster pace. Like, adults trying to change their habits, things that we think and do every day, it takes a little while, right? So I'll tell you, like, every
Michelle Hayes 38:18
every
Sydeney Brackins 38:19
day I have introductory sessions with new families or new people that say, hey, we want to check out your school. And so these are conducted privately or semi-privately because we are private institutions. So I make sure it's a very, like, welcoming, like, one-on-one experience to really assess, okay, what are your goals for yourself or your child? I have parents every
Michelle Hayes 38:39
start, everything
Sydeney Brackins 38:40
single
Michelle Hayes 38:40
only
Sydeney Brackins 38:40
week tell me after, like, a 30 minute session. Like, I've never seen my kid do that to anyone before, like, listen to you the first time,
Michelle Hayes 38:49
needs
Sydeney Brackins 38:49
or completely focus on you without looking anywhere else, or be that confident doing something. So at the end of the day, it really comes down to the people that are working with the students. Because I could, I could be the best, I could be Bruce Lee, right? I mean, I'm a good teacher. It just means I know a lot of technique. So the true capability of helping people change for the better is in
Michelle Hayes 39:14
people,
Sydeney Brackins 39:14
with people, do you know how to teach people? Not, do you know how to do really cool punches and kicks, right?
Wendy Beck 39:21
Okay.
Sydeney Brackins 39:21
I would say,
Michelle Hayes 39:22
and make the sound,
Sydeney Brackins 39:25
right? So, for little
Joe Ayler 39:28
you're
Sydeney Brackins 39:28
kids,
Joe Ayler 39:29
trending.
Sydeney Brackins 39:30
It's within the
Robyn Burke 39:30
It's
Sydeney Brackins 39:30
first week.
Robyn Burke 39:31
pretty cool.
Sydeney Brackins 39:32
Older kids, I would say, within the first month, teens and adults, like,
Michelle Hayes 39:35
one
Sydeney Brackins 39:35
within
Michelle Hayes 39:35
two months.
Wendy Beck 39:37
Okay. Thank you.
Sydeney Brackins 39:38
Yeah, no problem. That was a good question.
Michelle Hayes 39:39
Why
Rich Bennett 39:39
you
Michelle Hayes 39:39
are
Rich Bennett 39:40
going to sign up for a clear?
Wendy Beck 39:41
I don't know. It sounds interesting,
Sydeney Brackins 39:42
What if
Robyn Burke 39:43
maybe.
Sydeney Brackins 39:43
I said you get to beat up rich when you,
Joe Ayler 39:45
yes,
Michelle Hayes 39:46
yes, I think all of us would,
Wendy Beck 39:48
no, I don't want to do that.
Sydeney Brackins 39:49
I should have, I should have brought my free class,
Wendy Beck 39:52
I'm there. I
Michelle Hayes 39:52
want to do that.
Rich Bennett 39:57
Right. Yeah,
Wendy Beck 39:58
yeah.
Rich Bennett 39:59
See, not to beat up rich.
Sydeney Brackins 40:01
Oh, you know,
Rich Bennett 40:03
oh, I forgot to mention everybody that came for this. We have giveaways. All you got to do is there's a little piece of paper up there, write your name, email address, put it in the cup, and then when we're done, we'll
Michelle Hayes 40:14
be.
Rich Bennett 40:15
Given away some stuff.
Michelle Hayes 40:17
What's the name and email
Rich Bennett 40:18
Jennifer's
Michelle Hayes 40:18
for?
Rich Bennett 40:18
daughter is like, oh, so I can, so you can subscribe to the podcast.
Michelle Hayes 40:23
You didn't say that.
Text me later.
Rich Bennett 40:29
Did you say
Robyn Burke 40:31
that?
Sydeney Brackins 40:31
This is going to be a well attended event.
Rich Bennett 40:36
Really,
Joe Ayler 40:37
we'll have it at the Bel Air Armory.
Sydeney Brackins 40:39
There we go.
Joe Ayler 40:40
We'll build like a big,
Michelle Hayes 40:41
do it.
Rich Bennett 40:42
Things I do, I don't know why what, what scrooge?
Sydeney Brackins 40:48
Abbing then the app right next to the Rita's Italian ice.
Rich Bennett 40:52
You only have one location? Oh, that's right.
Sydeney Brackins 40:55
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 40:55
Okay.
Sydeney Brackins 40:55
yeah, we close down our parcel location.
Rich Bennett 40:57
You're going to take a Kathy. You can sign before it.
Perfect place.
Sydeney Brackins 41:12
I would love to meet her. I will say a lot of parents, so I grew up doing recreational sports, like softball and basketball. And I was never a team sports person or kid I should say. I just, like, I enjoyed it for the Game Aspect Balls and never competitive. I didn't have any desire to be competitive, but Marshall Arts is a totally different ball game, no pun intended, because if you get that socialization of with other people in
Robyn Burke 41:40
your region,
Sydeney Brackins 41:41
but at the same time, like your performance or your success is not determined by anybody else's performance. So it's an individual activity, an individual progression, but at the same time you get the socialization of being with others. So I think she would probably be a really good fit for that reason.
That's awesome.
Awesome. Wonderful, yeah, I'd love the chance
Rich Bennett 42:11
to meet her. I should be able to whip up on Scrooge.
Sydeney Brackins 42:13
There you go.
Rich Bennett 42:15
You like that? Scrooge, you could join me in this life-tacing fundraiser that Joe needed me into.
You could
Joe Ayler 42:25
a
Rich Bennett 42:25
dress
Joe Ayler 42:26
shirt there. You said "yeah," he said "yes." Did you say "yes?"
Rich Bennett 42:31
No, because he'll just push me down to make all the kids attack me at once.
Michelle Hayes 42:36
We're all gonna join you just not in the ring.
Rich Bennett 42:39
Sydney, I want to thank you so much. I've told you before the door is always open anytime you want to come back.
Sydeney Brackins 42:46
Thank you.
Rich Bennett 42:47
Everybody, if you haven't been to Empire Dojo, sign up. Linda, you should do it as well. Linda's back there like shut the hell off, Rich. Did she give me the finger?
Linda!
Wow! God, Sydney, anything you like
Robyn Burke 43:10
add.
Rich Bennett 43:10
to
Sydeney Brackins 43:11
Um, so you and I are planning the Smackdown, right?
Michelle Hayes 43:15
Text me later. I got you.
Rich Bennett 43:17
No, it's gotta be Joe.
Joe Ayler 43:19
Can you
Michelle Hayes 43:19
Oh well-
Joe Ayler 43:19
choke out Rich real quick?
Rich Bennett 43:20
No!
Sydeney Brackins 43:21
Oh yeah, yeah, I think that's a great segment. I could teach a renaissance show.
Joe Ayler 43:25
Yes!
Sydeney Brackins 43:26
You could demonstrate on you.
What? I'll teach you
Rich Bennett 43:33
Go,
Sydeney Brackins 43:33
the-
Michelle Hayes 43:33
have
Rich Bennett 43:33
don't you
Michelle Hayes 43:34
to go? Podcast takeover?
Rich Bennett 43:36
you have to-
Sydeney Brackins 43:37
No,
Rich Bennett 43:37
No, we
Sydeney Brackins 43:37
actually-
Rich Bennett 43:37
already did that with
Sydeney Brackins 43:38
Don't
Rich Bennett 43:38
the kids. Sydney, thank you so much.
Sydeney Brackins 43:42
No, thank you.
Rich Bennett 43:52
The close friend of mine sold their house with them, and honestly, I was blown away by this smoothness of the process and the level of care they received. And it's not just them, several others in my circle have had similar experiences. The canyon and his team have this personal touch that's just so rare these days. They actually listen and tailor their services to fit exactly what you need. And with fees way lower than the industry standard, you really feel like you're getting luxury service without that hefty price tag. So whether you're buying or selling, go to VictoryTeamSells.com and get started with Daniel McGee and his incredible team. Believe me, with them, it's not just a transaction, it's a relationship.
Linda Delbridge 44:39
So when I
Rich Bennett 44:39
Started-
Linda Delbridge 44:40
started this, like I mentioned
Larry Delbridge 44:42
before,
Joe Ayler 44:42
started
Linda Delbridge 44:43
as a YouTube series.
Rich Bennett 44:45
Then it got- It was good- The-
Michelle Hayes 44:48
The-
Joe Ayler 44:49
The-
Michelle Hayes 44:49
The-
Larry Delbridge 44:49
should-
Michelle Hayes 44:49
The- The- The-
Larry Delbridge 44:49
Look
Michelle Hayes 44:49
The- Look away,
Larry Delbridge 44:49
away,
Michelle Hayes 44:49
you
Larry Delbridge 44:49
you should-
Rich Bennett 44:50
away, you should- The
Larry Delbridge 44:50
Look
Rich Bennett 44:50
time played it on Saturday mornings. At some pub was the first
Larry Delbridge 44:55
spot.
Rich Bennett 44:56
It then- The contract for that came up. Didn't do it there anymore. And I think it was- It was a barrier linda. Maybe Brad mentioned, hey, why don't you come do it at the restaurant because at the time they had the side room. family- Ok, so then we started doing it there. So the
Joe Ayler 45:16
The
Rich Bennett 45:16
Dolbridge
Joe Ayler 45:16
Dolbridge
Rich Bennett 45:17
family who also got the Lions Club citizen of the year or the one year.
Joe Ayler 45:21
Larry
Rich Bennett 45:22
Lynda and Brad
Larry Delbridge 45:24
come
Joe Ayler 45:24
on up
Rich Bennett 45:25
here. Yes, you too, Linda.
So it's because of the Dolbridge people that basically this became a podcast. Originally a
Brad Delbridge 45:45
YouTube
Rich Bennett 45:45
series.
It's
Linda Delbridge 45:50
It's
Rich Bennett 45:50
told me only I have a face for audio.
Linda Delbridge 45:52
a story.
Rich Bennett 45:53
And- Was it you Larry suggested a podcast? One of you- Somebody
Larry Delbridge 45:58
Might
Rich Bennett 45:58
said-
Larry Delbridge 45:58
have been-
Rich Bennett 45:59
The podcast.
Larry Delbridge 45:59
Yeah, because I did one of your- I did one of your-
Rich Bennett 46:04
Clubhouse, right, 'cause it was me, you and Sarah. Um, so then we started, ten grill and pub, I think eleven o'clock in the morning, as when we did in the side room, and then a while, it started getting
Linda Delbridge 46:16
real real real real real. It's
Rich Bennett 46:19
like, oh, man, what are we gonna do? So that's when my brother-in-law suggested the clubhouse and we started up there. But those of you that don't know about town, grill and pub, these are the OGs, I guess you could say, the original owners, or as a, I, I, I, I, explain,
Larry Delbridge 46:41
it's
Brad Delbridge 46:42
Brad,
Rich Bennett 46:43
Brad Odyd,
Linda Delbridge 46:45
and Larry,
Brad Delbridge 46:45
Lynn,
Rich Bennett 46:45
and totally
Brad Delbridge 46:46
he
Rich Bennett 46:47
wanted
Brad Delbridge 46:47
do.
Rich Bennett 46:47
to
Larry Delbridge 46:48
Not at all. Now, Brad started out as, uh, grill sensations.
Rich Bennett 46:54
Right, I I remember
Larry Delbridge 46:55
that. Carry out,
Rich Bennett 46:56
that's how I met him,
Larry Delbridge 46:56
yeah. Yep. Carry out and delivery. And then I was getting close to, uh, retirement from my other job, and he invited me in to, so that we could open a full restaurant in the morning. And it just started out as an idea and a concept and grew from
Linda Delbridge 47:13
there.
Rich Bennett 47:14
We
Larry Delbridge 47:14
brought, we brought, we brought Lynn into, you know, manage the front.
Rich Bennett 47:19
Well, you're still doing pink classes there,
Linda Delbridge 47:20
you?
Rich Bennett 47:21
aren't
Linda Delbridge 47:21
Yes.
Rich Bennett 47:21
That's our thought. For those of you that don't know, you no longer own it, right?
Brad Delbridge 47:27
No.
Rich Bennett 47:27
You sold it three
Brad Delbridge 47:30
years
Linda Delbridge 47:31
ago? Two years
Rich Bennett 47:32
ago?
Brad Delbridge 47:33
Two, two, two and a half. I
Rich Bennett 47:36
love, which I never understood this. Right now, because you're, are you still a vegan?
Brad Delbridge 47:41
Vegetarian
Rich Bennett 47:42
vegetarian.
Made probably the best pit beef. Kick ass food, but a vegetarian. So I was in there one day, Brad's like, Hey, man, you gotta try this meatball sub. I was like, Okay. And Larry was, you know, like, yeah, he's down on this vegan kick or whatever. And he's like, I ain't never eat that right? So Brad brought out two meatball subs. One for me, one for Larry. Larry thought he had a real meatball sub. I both of them were vegan. My God, best meatball sub I ever had. And Larry swore up and down. It was not vegan.
Larry Delbridge 48:25
Yeah, delicious.
Rich Bennett 48:26
So did you eat it anymore after that?
Larry Delbridge 48:29
I actually, I tried, we all tried every item there. I mean, didn't I make sure it was consumable?
Brad Delbridge 48:37
Of
Rich Bennett 48:39
course, what? So you guys miss it
Brad Delbridge 48:41
at all?
Larry Delbridge 48:44
the people. That's
Rich Bennett 48:44
the
Brad Delbridge 48:44
I miss
Rich Bennett 48:45
yeah. Yeah,
Larry Delbridge 48:46
miss the people and I mean, we made a lot, a lot of friends
Linda Delbridge 48:50
there.
Brad Delbridge 48:51
Yeah,
Larry Delbridge 48:51
because it was kind of, we called it the meeting place, remember?
Rich Bennett 48:53
Yeah.
Larry Delbridge 48:54
And, you know, it just, it was just a fun thing to
Brad Delbridge 48:59
people to do.
Joe Ayler 49:00
How long did Janet for?
Brad Delbridge 49:02
I was there 17
Joe Ayler 49:05
years
Brad Delbridge 49:06
total. Yeah, two
Rich Bennett 49:09
thousand. Two thousand. That's gross sensation.
Larry Delbridge 49:09
One of those
Brad Delbridge 49:09
gross total. He ended up two thousand, six.
Larry Delbridge 49:12
Yeah.
Brad Delbridge 49:13
So 23.
Joe Ayler 49:16
Since you
Rich Bennett 49:16
Sold
Joe Ayler 49:17
sold it,
Rich Bennett 49:17
it.
Joe Ayler 49:17
what are you doing now?
Brad Delbridge 49:19
Home inspections and house flips
Rich Bennett 49:23
are
Michelle Hayes 49:23
and
Rich Bennett 49:23
you doing
Brad Delbridge 49:23
whatever? Are
Rich Bennett 49:26
you climbing ladders still? Are you he's not? Sometimes
Brad Delbridge 49:31
Yeah. crossbases, whatever addicts, yeah.
Rich Bennett 49:35
And what do you do, Larry?
Brad Delbridge 49:37
I'm being
Larry Delbridge 49:38
a pain in the butt to
Rich Bennett 49:39
Linda. No, Linda. Is
Linda Delbridge 49:42
he? Yes,
Larry Delbridge 49:43
he is.
Brad Delbridge 49:46
I'm
Larry Delbridge 49:46
a whole lot. A lot of just house stuff. You know what the two houses and all that. So
Brad Delbridge 49:51
not maintenance.
Larry Delbridge 49:54
She's trying to get me back into painting again or, you know, everything. We're all ordered. Both of
Brad Delbridge 50:00
are
Larry Delbridge 50:00
us
Brad Delbridge 50:00
artists.
Rich Bennett 50:01
Because you did the mural in the back, right?
Larry Delbridge 50:04
Lynn, Lynn was the lead on the mural. I helped her with
Rich Bennett 50:07
it. Okay.
Larry Delbridge 50:08
And we actually met North's
who
Rich Bennett 50:17
you've
Brad Delbridge 50:17
seen.
Michelle Hayes 50:18
Huh?
Linda Delbridge 50:21
Talking to your wife.
Rich Bennett 50:22
Oh,
Linda Delbridge 50:24
you're oh.
Rich Bennett 50:24
Go ahead, you can
Linda Delbridge 50:24
tell. Telling her that we're very boring and I don't know why I'm sitting up here. That microphone in my face.
Rich Bennett 50:31
Joe went and embarrassed you.
Linda, you're fine.
Linda Delbridge 50:38
Okay.
Rich Bennett 50:38
You are. It's a lot. You all you talk
Joe Ayler 50:42
people.
Rich Bennett 50:42
to
Joe Ayler 50:42
People
Linda Delbridge 50:42
see people soaring out there. So,
Rich Bennett 50:45
see people what?
Linda Delbridge 50:46
Snoring.
Rich Bennett 50:47
That's screwed. He always does
Linda Delbridge 50:49
that. He's
Rich Bennett 50:50
always
Joe Ayler 50:50
snoring. Sister.
Rich Bennett 50:52
All right.
Brad Delbridge 50:53
So either
Rich Bennett 50:56
of you
Brad Delbridge 50:56
this
Rich Bennett 50:58
because to give up that side room is a big thing for a restaurant. So why?
Larry Delbridge 51:06
Why did we give up the side room?
Rich Bennett 51:08
For yeah, for me, for us to do a podcast there.
Brad Delbridge 51:10
He's in an
Rich Bennett 51:12
office. No,
Larry Delbridge 51:13
no,
Rich Bennett 51:13
no,
Linda Delbridge 51:14
no.
Larry Delbridge 51:14
no,
Rich Bennett 51:14
Why
Joe Ayler 51:14
you
Rich Bennett 51:14
did
Larry Delbridge 51:15
redesign it? I
Rich Bennett 51:17
why did you agree to allow us to start doing the
Larry Delbridge 51:20
mean,
Rich Bennett 51:20
podcast and decide room?
Brad Delbridge 51:22
I mean, you were I remember when you try to sell me a commercial time.
Rich Bennett 51:27
Oh, when I was at the Bay,
Brad Delbridge 51:29
yeah, yeah, you still out
Rich Bennett 51:31
here.
Larry Delbridge 51:32
A
Brad Delbridge 51:34
good supporter of us and you've always advocated for us from doing the website and
Larry Delbridge 51:43
through
Brad Delbridge 51:44
the lines club and, you know, you got to pay it back, you know, you got to take the people that take care of you.
Rich Bennett 51:51
So I can't, I can't yell that now when I go down there.
Brad Delbridge 51:55
I'll put the burden for you.
Rich Bennett 51:56
No, Tracy yells at me once in a while. I don't come down there anymore. So, like I just don't know. I'll go there. If I had, I'll go there every once in while for lunch and that's about it.
Brad Delbridge 52:12
You're busy guy.
Rich Bennett 52:13
Well, you're not there cooking that food for me, man. I miss that stuff.
Brad Delbridge 52:18
That's
Larry Delbridge 52:19
right.
Michelle Hayes 52:20
I'll come over.
Rich Bennett 52:22
Oh, for Brad's cooking, not mine.
No, you won't. I'm not making birth.
Joe Ayler 52:30
I have a question. Well, because I'm always curious about the operational kind of elements and just experiences of a restaurant. What was the most challenging
part of owning and operating a restaurant?
Brad Delbridge 52:48
A lot of it was the fluctuating food cost. You print a menu and you're paying XYZ for a product and then all of a sudden something happens and the product doubles. And, you know, you got to go to fixing everything, fixing the price on the website and the menus and probably trying to find a very, very anal about how everything runs and trying to find somebody that actually cares and there's a good group of people down there. I mean, a lot of them are still there. A lot of the kitchen staff are still there, but trying to find 15 or 20 people at the same time that come together and work together and pull it off when you're not there. It's very challenging.
Joe Ayler 53:33
Because I've heard the margins are tight in restaurants.
Brad Delbridge 53:37
They're very, I mean, you know, there's no 50% of wing night anymore, you know.
Joe Ayler 53:42
Yeah. Yeah.
Brad Delbridge 53:43
You lose one of it. Yeah.
Joe Ayler 53:47
You don't miss
Michelle Hayes 53:48
that part.
Brad Delbridge 53:49
No, no, not at all.
Rich Bennett 53:52
Yeah. Actually,
Brad Delbridge 53:52
do you think being in the restaurant business
Rich Bennett 53:54
has helped you with the whom inspection business a lot?
Brad Delbridge 53:58
I mean, I meant my partner there. So
Rich Bennett 54:00
Oh,
Brad Delbridge 54:01
yeah.
Rich Bennett 54:01
oh.
Brad Delbridge 54:02
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 54:04
He was eating the vegan food.
Brad Delbridge 54:06
Now he worked there for a while. So,
Rich Bennett 54:08
Danny did.
Brad Delbridge 54:08
Yeah, yep,
Larry Delbridge 54:11
in the kitchen.
Rich Bennett 54:11
So what. Getting into the home inspection then.
Brad Delbridge 54:15
It's just looking for something. I've always been fascinated with real estate and looking for something to get into knowing that there was a light at the end of the tunnel with the restaurant, not really wanting to commit to, you know, another five or 10-year lease, you know, because much of your name's on there.
Larry Delbridge 54:29
there.
Brad Delbridge 54:29
You're on So just kind of fell into A childhood friend also was doing it. So kind of, you know, followed him around and was like, yeah, I like this, something different.
Larry Delbridge 54:43
it.
Rich Bennett 54:43
You guys don't do catering anymore, either, do you?
Brad Delbridge 54:46
No,
Larry Delbridge 54:46
I don't.
Brad Delbridge 54:47
Other than cooking from my family, that's it.
Larry Delbridge 54:49
Yeah. We had talked about it, but, you know, just with his schedule now.
Rich Bennett 54:53
Yeah. Cause
Larry Delbridge 54:55
he, he went from 24/7 to 24/7 with the home inspection.
Joe Ayler 55:01
I like
Brad Delbridge 55:01
that.
Rich Bennett 55:03
Well, I
Brad Delbridge 55:03
You
Rich Bennett 55:03
need to. guys for allowing us to actually
Brad Delbridge 55:06
start there.
Rich Bennett 55:08
And I don't want to say you guys have been friends since then. To me, you guys. um it's yes even you Linda.
Linda Delbridge 55:21
Thank
Rich Bennett 55:22
you. Does anybody have any
Linda Delbridge 55:24
question?
Larry Delbridge 55:25
Is that why is that why she sat on your lap at Christmas time?
I
Michelle Hayes 55:35
need to hear
Brad Delbridge 55:35
that.
Michelle Hayes 55:35
more about
Joe Ayler 55:37
Only
Linda Delbridge 55:38
because you were dressed Santa Claus.
Larry Delbridge 55:40
I was embarrassed for
Rich Bennett 55:44
her. Oh, woman Brad sat on my lap too.
Larry Delbridge 55:46
I know he did. So
Rich Bennett 55:48
did you I believe
Larry Delbridge 55:49
that's right. It's the
Brad Delbridge 55:51
same time.
Linda Delbridge 55:58
Does
Rich Bennett 55:59
anybody have any questions for
Brad Delbridge 56:01
Larry
Rich Bennett 56:01
Brad or Linda,
Larry Delbridge 56:06
especially Linda.
Rich Bennett 56:09
Come on somebody think of a hard
Brad Delbridge 56:10
question.
Rich Bennett 56:11
You're still she's doing paint nights there at town growing,
Larry Delbridge 56:14
Paul.
Michelle Hayes 56:14
When's your next
Linda Delbridge 56:16
paint night?
Do you do every Monday? Every other Monday. We're old
Joe Ayler 56:25
now.
Linda Delbridge 56:26
have
Larry Delbridge 56:26
We
Linda Delbridge 56:26
to pace ourselves.
I just have a Facebook page. I never got a randomly getting him to build me.
Joe Ayler 56:36
What?
Linda Delbridge 56:37
Uh decorative painting with friends. Thank you.
Larry Delbridge 56:42
They've actually filled the some Mondays they filled the restaurant. Ladies panning and they try to hold the size of the class down so they can give individualized attention. You know,
Brad Delbridge 56:53
they do some nice product.
Linda Delbridge 56:58
It's it's been good to see how much you've grown your business how hard you worked. you,
Rich Bennett 57:05
Because
Linda Delbridge 57:06
because I know, even you know, because
Joe Ayler 57:07
of you,
Rich Bennett 57:08
because
Linda Delbridge 57:09
I
Rich Bennett 57:09
of
Linda Delbridge 57:09
know,
Rich Bennett 57:09
toe Brad
Joe Ayler 57:10
Larry
Rich Bennett 57:10
and
Joe Ayler 57:11
Larry. I know
Brad Delbridge 57:11
you were the
Joe Ayler 57:12
backbone
Brad Delbridge 57:12
behind.
Linda Delbridge 57:14
No, that would have been Brad.
Rich Bennett 57:16
Brad told me to see that.
Linda Delbridge 57:18
We wouldn't have done it without him because
Larry Delbridge 57:20
your
Linda Delbridge 57:20
nobody
Larry Delbridge 57:20
Brad
Linda Delbridge 57:20
wants to
Larry Delbridge 57:20
was
Linda Delbridge 57:21
restaurant
Larry Delbridge 57:21
Brad's mean.
Linda Delbridge 57:22
Don't never do that.
Larry Delbridge 57:25
When we when we got our LLC and you have to list President and Vice President treasure and everything, I looked there
Brad Delbridge 57:32
and I said,
Larry Delbridge 57:33
how's it feel to press? And I signed up as Vice President.
Rich Bennett 57:38
You didn't know he's going to fall that way?
Brad Delbridge 57:45
Like
Rich Bennett 57:46
what Joe did
Linda Delbridge 57:48
with his
Rich Bennett 57:48
knife teasing thing. So you want to be
Brad Delbridge 57:49
one of my sure.
Linda Delbridge 57:52
See
Joe Ayler 57:52
how easy
Linda Delbridge 57:53
he did it.
Joe Ayler 57:54
turning into a it's
Rich Bennett 57:56
This is going
Joe Ayler 57:56
going
Rich Bennett 57:56
to
Joe Ayler 57:56
to
Rich Bennett 57:56
be
Joe Ayler 57:56
be
Rich Bennett 57:56
a
Joe Ayler 57:56
a
Rich Bennett 57:56
big
Joe Ayler 57:56
big fun. The first annual of first of many.
Larry Delbridge 57:59
It was Brad's baby so.
Rich Bennett 58:02
Larry. Brad. I
Linda Delbridge 58:03
want to thank you guys so much.
Rich Bennett 58:05
I love you.
Stay in touch even you Linda. Oh look,
Linda Delbridge 58:13
she's.
Joe Ayler 58:14
Luke. She's gone.
Larry Delbridge 58:15
I
Michelle Hayes 58:16
think we should all do a paint
Rich Bennett 58:17
night. They may.
Brad Delbridge 58:18
What?
Michelle Hayes 58:18
We should all do a paint night team building.
Rich Bennett 58:21
Yeah.
Michelle Hayes 58:24
Doesn't matter. She'll help. Individualized attention wrench.
Rich Bennett 58:29

I need all my co-hosts to come up here. You might have to share some microphones. Because one of my mentors, he said, the whole plan was for him to come on and do this episode. And then he suggested that we a live recording and have people interview
Kayla Deickman 1:00:21
me,
Rich Bennett 1:00:23
yeah, I know, scary as hell, ehm.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And also, also, so we can all, y'all can ask questions of all the co-hosts.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:00:42
Oh,
Rich Bennett 1:00:42
the
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:00:42
wait. All
Rich Bennett 1:00:43
co-hosts.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:00:44
Oh, wait, they can ask us
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:00:46
questions.
Rich Bennett 1:00:47
Yeah, that includes
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:00:47
you. Oh, no. When do your co-hosts.
Rich Bennett 1:00:51
Yeah, when do you get up here?
When do you do-? Alright,
Joe Ayler 1:00:56
so-
Rich Bennett 1:00:57
Did
Joe Ayler 1:00:58
the co-host,
Rich Bennett 1:01:00
okay,
Joe Ayler 1:01:00
good then?
Rich Bennett 1:01:03
each, one of themselves
Joe Ayler 1:01:04
Introduce
Rich Bennett 1:01:04
and- they do. So start a view, Wendy. You have to turn to microphone, right?
Wendy Beck 1:01:10
Tell
Kayla Deickman 1:01:10
start
Wendy Beck 1:01:10
everybody,
Kayla Deickman 1:01:10
a view
Wendy Beck 1:01:11
you
Kayla Deickman 1:01:11
on- Are
Rich Bennett 1:01:12
you starting?
Wendy Beck 1:01:15
My name is Wendy and I am the founder and executive director of RAGE Against Sediction. We have a segment on conversations with Rich Bennett, which is called RAGE Talk, which talks about all things addiction. I was thrown into this role because my daughter was struggling and it has become a passion of mine. And I put a lot of purpose behind it. And I- it's very rewarding. And I think Rich, for allowing us to have a platform to talk about this really very difficult subject.
Rich Bennett 1:01:48
Because of Wendy, we are number one in the addiction category and have been for two
Wendy Beck 1:01:54
years. That's because I had to start taking
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:01:55
All yeah.
Wendy Beck 1:01:56
over.
Rich Bennett 1:01:59
Conversations with Wendy. Alright, go ahead, Trouble.
Kayla Deickman 1:02:04
I'm not Trouble.
Rich Bennett 1:02:06
Whatever.
Kayla Deickman 1:02:08
So my name's
Wendy Beck 1:02:13
Kayla.
Kayla Deickman 1:02:15
Kayla and Rich originally brought me on to discuss children's books because I write mental health children's books for kids in the early elementary age group because mental health matters. But now I've noticed I am on way more episodes of us talking about inappropriate things. It's wonderful. Lots of romance authors. I mean, we just did one where we talked about Harry Balls the entire time.
Rich Bennett 1:02:50
It's milkweed.
It's a milkweed plant called Harry Ball.
Kayla Deickman 1:02:58
It was for the butterflies. But today I had bear my chili pepper dress. To embarrass my friend here. Are you 50 shades of red rich?
Rich Bennett 1:03:14
So Kayla Co. who's an episode with me, we had Christy Wolf on who writes romance novels. Which I didn't know romance novels are based on a chili pepper scale.
Wendy Beck 1:03:31
This episode
Rich Bennett 1:03:36
has not been published yet. We just recorded an episode with an author I had on before Claudine Marcin who is she's finished her, but she's working on a book now, which she said is going to be smut. Oh, this conversation a left turn big time because I don't even how it happened, but Kayla and Claudine. She's doing like deep research for this book, and when I say deep research, like she's going on dating apps and going on dates with guys that's how she's doing the research. and they were talking about certain types
Kayla Deickman 1:04:23
pics
Rich Bennett 1:04:23
of
Kayla Deickman 1:04:23
that
Rich Bennett 1:04:24
her and
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:04:26
are
Rich Bennett 1:04:26
toys for women oh yeah it was kind of scary so Kayla whenever she comes on she's one of the co-hosts that always loves to try to embarrass me.
Kayla Deickman 1:04:39
It's my job.
Rich Bennett 1:04:40
Yeah.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:04:40
It's probably the only co-hosts up here that's painted on
Kayla Deickman 1:04:45
Yes I have done that too. I painted a fried egg on his forehead or on at the
Rich Bennett 1:04:51
that.
Kayla Deickman 1:04:51
top of his head.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:04:53
Cracked egg on the top of his...
Wendy Beck 1:04:55
and I think I was there that after you did that. Oh
Kayla Deickman 1:04:58
were you?
Wendy Beck 1:04:59
I saw it. Yes.
Kayla Deickman 1:05:00
That's wonderful. That is
Rich Bennett 1:05:02
That's
Kayla Deickman 1:05:02
wonderful.
Rich Bennett 1:05:02
the episode we did where all the kids took over and...
Kayla Deickman 1:05:05
Yes.
Rich Bennett 1:05:08
Subject came up with Kayla mentioning how she does face painting and they're all like oh y'all let her paint us. Well she doesn't have her paints with her.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:05:16
No.
Rich Bennett 1:05:18
So she painted a fried egg on my head.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:05:20
They're still talking about it.
Kayla Deickman 1:05:22
It's wonderful.
Rich Bennett 1:05:25
Oh no my I was going to say this she can paint your head Joe but no she can't you got hair.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:05:29
You can always shave.
Rich Bennett 1:05:31
Yeah whatever. Go ahead Jennifer.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:05:34
Hi I'm Jennifer Hathaway
Kayla Deickman 1:05:37
and
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:05:37
I have known Rich for years. I've been on the podcast co-hosting several times to kind of offer
Kayla Deickman 1:05:44
some marketing and
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:05:45
PR
Kayla Deickman 1:05:47
support.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:05:48
We've had photo shoots together. So yeah I've had a lot of fun interviewing. A lot of the guests that he has on his show and you know seeing giving a marketing perspective to whatever projects they're working on and just getting to learn their stories.
Rich Bennett 1:06:05
And she's happy that one of our
Joe Ayler 1:06:06
guests,
Rich Bennett 1:06:07
that was special B here didn't show up because he ragged her when he...
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:13
Oh my
Kayla Deickman 1:06:13
god.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:14
We're gonna live it down and I'm actually going to be... We have media tomorrow for the Italian festival. He was part of the Italian ozaiab.
Rich Bennett 1:06:25
Never telling Italian you break the noodles in half when you're making
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:28
spaghetti. It's a big mistake. Yeah I did not know that that was a sin but
Kayla Deickman 1:06:33
I
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:34
was always you
Rich Bennett 1:06:34
just
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:34
know I was
Rich Bennett 1:06:34
or
Kayla Deickman 1:06:36
I
Rich Bennett 1:06:37
never tell them that you make spaghetti in the instant pot because the first comment is going to be is what is an instant pot. I got ragged on and thank
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:46
Jennifer...
Rich Bennett 1:06:46
god
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:47
I was sweaty.
Rich Bennett 1:06:48
She broke her in half and it took the...
Yes
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:53
I have never done I have not done it since I'm proud to say...
Kayla Deickman 1:06:57
I'm
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:06:58
trying to live by all of the Italian rules when cooking which is almost never.
Rich Bennett 1:07:04
And who's your family? Because your family's got some ties here to Hartford County.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:07:07
Yes. Laura's were a chaired which my grandfather had the farm here in Guapatown. So I grew up here in Guapatown. My parents grew up here in Guapatown. They went to school with Ridge and then we still have the... My uncle and my cousin now she runs the one in church though. So we've also been talking about doing a podcast,
Kayla Deickman 1:07:29
some
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:07:30
drink specials that have apple cider in them. We're gonna get
Rich Bennett 1:07:35
that good. Oh yeah. I got a lot of good stuff taking. Which I found out something the other day. I'm gonna order it and try it.
If anybody's ever tried this let me know. They make non-alcoholic spirits. Like bourbon, you all knew about
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:07:54
that?
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:07:56
I had like dried
Joe Ayler 1:07:57
January
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:07:58
in the
Kayla Deickman 1:07:58
log...
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:07:59
a mocktail.
Rich Bennett 1:07:59
Is there any good? Well I found out like
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:08:02
bourbon
Rich Bennett 1:08:03
what they use for the heat is chili peppers. Yeah but yeah I didn't know that I'm gonna have to try it. Alright go ahead, Trouble.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:08:14
Why am I Trouble?
Rich Bennett 1:08:16
Please give me a hard time
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:08:17
too. We have fun. I'm Michelle Hayes. I have a clever cap marketing. One of the prizes is one of our cups. On the back, it also has Rich's logo. And we specialize in nonprofit marketing. We know that nonprofits, just like Wendy are really needing specialized marketing and they work for every single dollar that they get and grants. And so we really want to make sure that we're giving them everything that we can. We say no budget is too small because it's really not. My husband says I have to make money to pay the rent on my office. But if I didn't have to, I would be perfectly fine with that.
But yeah, and I've been a co-host for too
Rich Bennett 1:09:06
long. I mean,
Kayla Deickman 1:09:08
like
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:09:09
a year.
Rich Bennett 1:09:10
A little over here.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:09:12
So my husband's family knows Rich. He's an old family friend. And then he he did our wedding. Um, so I kind of inherited Rich. Which is kind of fun. Um, but my husband's one of his favorite people and he'll be here in like 20 minutes.
Rich Bennett 1:09:26
You inherited me.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:09:29
I was, yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:09:33
inherited.
Joe Ayler 1:09:36
Yeah. Package.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:09:37
Package deal. Yeah, you were a package deal.
Rich Bennett 1:09:40
Oh, God, Joe, please take it away, man.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:09:45
gets rich in the prenup? Who gets
Wendy Beck 1:09:48
Who
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:09:49
rich?
Rich Bennett 1:09:49
I just realized we're the only guys here because the other guys at co-host I guess got
Kayla Deickman 1:09:55
scared.
Rich Bennett 1:09:56
Greg's not here.
No.
He's, he's from you all.
So this man to my
Wendy Beck 1:10:18
right
Rich Bennett 1:10:21
probably the third or fourth. I
Joe Ayler 1:10:23
I think,
Rich Bennett 1:10:24
think.
Joe Ayler 1:10:24
Yeah, you know, well, I'm Joe on the president of Tar Heel Construction Group. We're a local, um, roofing an exterior contractor. We're at a Bel Air Maryland. And, you know, I don't even remember how we got
Rich Bennett 1:10:38
home. I don't remember either.
Joe Ayler 1:10:40
All I do know is that it's
Rich Bennett 1:10:43
been a long time.
Joe Ayler 1:10:44
From the moment I met Rich, you know, he's a kind, energetic, magnetic,
authentic person. And I think that's why so many people are kind of attracted to him. And when I had the opportunity just to kind of get to know him and get involved with this. It was a no brainer for me just because, you know, I'm a heart for a county guy through and through 30 plus years in the county. And, you know, that's kind of why I asked that question to Chris. The about you know, staying here in the county because there's just so many just good people just helping good people, you know, whether it's for profit, nonprofit, you know, just all sorts of people. So doing
Rich Bennett 1:11:28
the solar shingles too?
Joe Ayler 1:11:30
Yeah, yeah, yes.
Rich Bennett 1:11:32
get
Joe Ayler 1:11:32
Don't
Rich Bennett 1:11:32
solar panels
Joe Ayler 1:11:32
Don't,
Rich Bennett 1:11:32
on.
Joe Ayler 1:11:33
don't, don't let me, he's trying to redirect off of a.
Rich Bennett 1:11:37
Well, no, I'm just shocked at with the magnetic and everything because they you've volunteered me for.
But,
Joe Ayler 1:11:45
as I've grown older, I've gotten to appreciate just good people, good, authentic people. And I think that my, my internal compass and recognizing, you know, when I'm being fed bullshit or talking to, you know, or whatever, you know, Richard, he's just a great guy. And I don't even remember how we got hooked up. I might have been through Christy.
Rich Bennett 1:12:05
Those people know.
Joe Ayler 1:12:08
I don't even remember. Yeah, guys that really doesn't matter, but I've been a, you know, often on kind of co-host here and there. And, and yeah, just just congratulations on, on 750 episodes and that's the beautiful thing about podcasts is that if you're a great conversationalist, like Rich obviously is, that there's tons to talk about and learn from people. And I'm just happy to, you know, just be a part of it and, you know, contribute, kind of contribute where I can and just proud to be a part of this, this community here.
Rich Bennett 1:12:42
One of the guys that I learned a lot from, everybody's got mentors. Whether, I mean, I have a couple for podcast scene and a couple for business and Joe has been one of the ones for just watching him and everything he does in the community and just tremendous. Robert, you want me to let Tammy go
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:07
to
Rich Bennett 1:13:07
first since
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:07
know,
Rich Bennett 1:13:07
you want
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:07
I got a big fight for
Rich Bennett 1:13:09
this microphone.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:10
Do we ask questions now,
Rich Bennett 1:13:11
not yet. That's why I said, do you want Tammy to introduce herself first?
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:14
I'll just go down the line. It's fun. So, I'm Robin.
Rich Bennett 1:13:19
This
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:21
one's
Rich Bennett 1:13:22
this one.
I was booing at nightcl..
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:28
big sister,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:13:30
older,
Rich Bennett 1:13:30
big sister
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:13:31
sorry,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:31
and older and older, a lot older, but that's okay, I want it. wiser, alve, thank you, I won't say what she
Rich Bennett 1:13:41
She
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:41
said.
Rich Bennett 1:13:42
said you looked much younger, she's a lot.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:43
She did. hha ha, I like her, but anyway, uhm,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:13:46
stole
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:46
you
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:13:46
all your
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:47
hair. Uh, when,
Joe Ayler 1:13:51
when, where did you start it?
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:13:52
This. And up to now? minute. I'm his sounding board. What do you think about this? What do you think about that? Should I do that? Should I do that? What if I change this? What if I change that? What do you like
Rich Bennett 1:14:04
another
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:14:04
this idea? Did you like, do you like that idea? And being the sister, I'd tell him like it is. you know what? Nope, don't do it. Yup, do it. You know, and uhm, I ran a nonprofit for many years in Hartford County, and so the nonprofit experience comes in pretty handy, I guess. sometimes. Anyway, and then, and then, he violent told tells me, I get violent told to come on certain podcast.
Rich Bennett 1:14:38
What's only because you used to violent tell me for a lot of
Joe Ayler 1:14:42
things
Rich Bennett 1:14:43
and still.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:14:44
True, still.
Rich Bennett 1:14:45
Right, we need a bartender. Richie. We need somebody to do parking. You know,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:14:52
busy season
Rich Bennett 1:14:53
past the dance, or she can.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:14:54
Okay.
Rich Bennett 1:15:00
Hi,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:15:00
I'm Tammy Windgrove. I really like cheese.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:15:06
Hi, Tammy.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:15:08
Hi, Michelle. I'm the owner of full circle boards. We are fully licensed caters, but we specialize in Sharkootery. Rich knows that, because
Rich Bennett 1:15:19
the first time that I came. She makes kick ass Charkootery boards.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:15:23
Yeah, right there, the first time I came on the show was through the Harvard County Chamber of Commerce.
Rich Bennett 1:15:30
Oh yeah.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:15:32
Got cheesy And he had so much fun. He invited me to come back and I brought gifts. And I think because I brought gifts, he said, do you want to come back again. I've co-hosted a handful of shows with him and I always have such a great time with Rich. He's become a good friend and a mentor to me really. I've bounced ideas off of him. And like what Joe said, he's a no bullshit guy. He'll give me his opinion and just
Kayla Deickman 1:16:06
and.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:16:06
you're such a good dude.
Rich Bennett 1:16:09
He.
If through the Chamber podcast that I host, she came on mine and she brought the boards with her. I can't remember if that's the first or the second episode where I was just sitting there eating while trying to talk very rude to me, but. And that stuff was good. It was good. The other time was when I had a guest on it brought squirrel. And I eat squirrel and squirrel. And I'm going to have a nice piece of ideas, which are very good. Okay, here we go. Go ahead.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:16:43
Thank you.
Thank you. Well, I've been thinking about this question for a while. You're going to be surprised. No, you know, I know how your podcast and Harvard County living have grown since she started them because I was there. They were there. So I've watched that. I know how that has transpired. My question to you is how have you grown as a person since the podcast have started
Rich Bennett 1:17:19
as a person?
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:17:20
Yep.
Rich Bennett 1:17:25
I came out of my shit. Well, you know, because I was a lot of people may not notice, but I was like shy. I was in front of crowds. Yeah, I didn't. I was
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:17:36
I'm not sure how to microphone
Rich Bennett 1:17:38
well in a nightclub, that's different.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:17:40
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:17:41
You know, but even then I was just playing the music. I wasn't on
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:17:45
you were.
Rich Bennett 1:17:45
the mic a lot. But I just I've learned so much. And I think that's the biggest thing. And one of the reasons I started the podcast was number for a few reasons, number one, I wanted to help organizations and businesses grow. And I wanted to learn, and I wanted to help you. And I don't think an episode has gone by where I haven't had a guest on that I learned something. Even today, Sydney, I didn't know there was such a thing as Maryland. I mean, mayor. Marital counseling kick back by whatever. Is that a really a thing or you mess it with us? That's really a
Joe Ayler 1:18:29
I
Rich Bennett 1:18:29
thing.
Joe Ayler 1:18:29
love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:18:30
you.
Joe Ayler 1:18:31
I love
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:18:31
The thing now.
Rich Bennett 1:18:32
But, I
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:18:33
--And-and
Rich Bennett 1:18:33
mean,
I, you know, something else I learned is that Linda still hates to talk on the microphone. You know, um, but no, seriously, I mean, the stuff I've learned and I don't, the thing is with this, you know, I've had people on from all over the world, um, the only thing we really don't talk about is politics. But, there are, unless it's an author, because it's, you know, like, fiction, nonfiction or whatever. But just,
yeah, just the stuff I learned, it's amazing.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:19:14
--Well, and I think part of your growth is, is
Rich Bennett 1:19:18
your--
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:19:19
coming
Rich Bennett 1:19:19
--and
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:19:19
out of
Rich Bennett 1:19:19
the friendships.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:19:20
--I'm going to places and going
Rich Bennett 1:19:21
--Yeah.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:19:22
here and there, which we couldn't get you to do
Rich Bennett 1:19:25
--But
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:19:25
that much.
Rich Bennett 1:19:26
the friendship, too, I mean, the thing, the funny thing is, um, 'cause I record what, three to eight episodes a week, and your network just grows, and these people that I've had on, no matter where they're from, we become friends, and we communicate all the time. --I was telling Wendy, I had a guy in Canada, one of the episodes we did, we had
Kayla Deickman 1:19:53
run--
Rich Bennett 1:19:53
somebody --Guy in Canada contacted me, and thanked us for that, that episode because his daughter was in addiction. He didn't know how to get her in recovery. And to this day, he and I still talk.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:20:06
--Well, and it's those kinds of things that I've seen with you, and that kind of growth. But also, I think doing all the episodes, and hearing other people's stories make you so much more positive.
Rich Bennett 1:20:18
--Oh,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:20:19
that you were ever negative, but just
Wendy Beck 1:20:21
yeah.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:20:21
so,
Wendy Beck 1:20:21
--Not
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:20:22
so much more-- don't you think, Marja?
--Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:20:31
--Yeah, one of these days I'm going to get my wife on.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:20:35
--That's about as close as you
Joe Ayler 1:20:36
--That's
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:20:37
just--
Joe Ayler 1:20:37
the thousand, the 1,000th episode. --Alright, I got one, you want to easy one or hard
Rich Bennett 1:20:44
one? --I can answer anything, man.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:20:47
--I'm ready.
Joe Ayler 1:20:51
--What was your biggest,
like, holy shit moment?
Rich Bennett 1:21:00
I'm
Joe Ayler 1:21:01
being serious. Like, you want to call it shocking. What was the most shocking moment, whether it was, you know, it could be negative, you know, positive.
Rich Bennett 1:21:09
--In all honesty--
Joe Ayler 1:21:12
you're speaking and you're learning, and then you're like, holy shit. Like, you know, like, you know, something that you learned, that was just absolutely amazing or
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:21:24
--Where
Joe Ayler 1:21:25
mind-blowing, whatever it is.
Rich Bennett 1:21:26
--Wow. I mean, there's been a couple of them.
Joe Ayler 1:21:29
--Give me, give us something. Don't give me, you know, give me a specific
Rich Bennett 1:21:34
--Alright,
Joe Ayler 1:21:34
kind of--
Rich Bennett 1:21:35
so it didn't come during the recording. It came during the editing and it, so
--Oh, a one-hour episode will take me one hour to edit because I listened to the whole episode and I'll do this editing while I'm listening to it. This, one episode took me eight hours to edit and it was, to me, one of the best episodes that we did and it was Joe's idea. It was episode called "About Living A Full Phil Life." So it was myself, Joe,
my neighbor ever said my son, Danny, and my wife, cousin's husband-- I guess you could say cousin, now, Tony, who came up from Mississippi. --I think it lasted an hour and a half.
--I think I made the mistake of making old-fashioned for the guys. I didn't have anything. And I think Joe had two, and when I went to edit it, so there were five of us. And I loaded the tracks and I'm like, suddenly four tracks. How's it going on here? So I looked at everything again, it's like, no, it's still only four tracks. Somehow or another, Joe turned his microphone off before we started recording. --That's
Joe Ayler 1:22:58
my fault.
Rich Bennett 1:22:59
So I'm like, holy shit, man. Are you-- but the thing-- it was so good. It's like, no, I cannot just let it go or say we're going to re-record. So he was sitting between me and ever since and I was able to pull his voice from our microphones. That's why I took eight hours. But that was probably one of them. I mean, there's been a lot of them, but definitely-- --that's one that always sticks out to me, because it was-- it was a great conversation, but it was worth the eight hours of editing. So what was one of yours? You, you, you host of the...
Joe Ayler 1:23:37
There, I mean, I, I mean, you've done 750, man. I mean, there's gotta be some sort of, sub, you know, subject matter, that kind of,
Rich Bennett 1:23:46
well, definitely,
Joe Ayler 1:23:47
I mean, not the, you know, the editing that's great. Give me something that you learned when speaking to somebody.
Rich Bennett 1:23:53
I would say
Joe Ayler 1:23:55
out of all the people that you've talked
Rich Bennett 1:23:57
Any
Joe Ayler 1:23:57
to.
Rich Bennett 1:23:57
of the ones, any of the people we talk to in recovery, when you hear their stories, I mean, it's just, I mean, and when you will tell you, there's been times just tears, tears in our eyes, um, an area Alicia,
Wendy Beck 1:24:11
on.
Rich Bennett 1:24:11
we're on. And we, we always worry from somebody that's in recovery, but not the spouse. And, eh, yeah, it's, those moments are just, I don't want to say they're, they're holy shit moments, but they, those are the ones you remember and you stick with them. And these, well, the one we, we had roofers in recovery,
Joe Ayler 1:24:37
as
Rich Bennett 1:24:37
you didn't know, I was getting them on.
Joe Ayler 1:24:39
Yeah, yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:24:40
And, um, to hear, it's just, yeah, those are the ones that really stick out.
Joe Ayler 1:24:46
All right, one more quick, I don't want to most embarrassing moment.
Rich Bennett 1:24:49
The most, oh my,
Joe Ayler 1:24:51
quickly. So I don't want to hijack anybody else's question. Were you ever like, were you ever like severely embarrassed? Where like,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:25:01
I knew
Joe Ayler 1:25:02
that. Okay,
Rich Bennett 1:25:02
Lila, you want to answer that?
Kayla Deickman 1:25:06
I believe it was your question.
Rich Bennett 1:25:10
Yes, so probably the one I talked about,
Joe Ayler 1:25:14
he's getting red right now.
Rich Bennett 1:25:17
About earlier, where it a
Wendy Beck 1:25:20
was
Rich Bennett 1:25:20
co-host that we had called Dean Marcin on, and the, uh, the picks is one thing, but, what, do any of you women know what the hell the rose is?
Kayla Deickman 1:25:30
Oh my gosh.
Rich Bennett 1:25:32
Movie the toy. Oh, yeah. I was like, yeah.
Joe Ayler 1:25:40
Yeah, but oh, they
Kayla Deickman 1:25:42
sister
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:25:42
sister sister is.
Joe Ayler 1:25:44
Wow.
Rich Bennett 1:25:45
You.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:25:45
No, but you're sister sitting here. Not on here.
Rich Bennett 1:25:47
Oh,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:25:48
what?
Rich Bennett 1:25:49
So dead Rose. So yeah, I would say. Yeah, I was pretty in, cables, came is on a mission. And I think Michelle is too, too, embarrass the hell out of me. So now I got to be careful of who, you know, what I let the co-host.
Kayla Deickman 1:26:10
I'm really not that bad.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:26:12
Right, but Rich,
Rich Bennett 1:26:13
I tried to.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:26:14
if I didn't make fun of you, you wouldn't know. I love you.
Rich Bennett 1:26:16
Well, this is true.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:26:17
There you
Kayla Deickman 1:26:17
Exactly.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:26:18
go. Thank you.
Kayla Deickman 1:26:20
It's just how we show our affection.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:26:23
Exactly. I tell my kid that all the time.
Kayla Deickman 1:26:25
Uh-huh.
Rich Bennett 1:26:26
But
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:26:26
don't
Rich Bennett 1:26:26
you
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:26:26
make fun of you. I don't love you.
Rich Bennett 1:26:29
But yeah. Leave that one.
Kayla Deickman 1:26:33
I have a question.
Rich Bennett 1:26:34
God,
Kayla Deickman 1:26:35
it's not that bad.
Rich Bennett 1:26:36
OK, go ahead.
Kayla Deickman 1:26:37
What has been your most fulfilling moment?
Rich Bennett 1:26:41
My most fulfill at the point. I can't name just one. There's there's been too many. That's like one, I mean.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:26:52
What about
Rich Bennett 1:26:53
is a pack
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:26:54
filling moment through this journey of pod.
Rich Bennett 1:26:57
Well, making it for 10 years and 750 episodes. And then when I looked into the numbers. Um, and seeing that, you know, less than 1% make that. That, to me, that is. I mean, it's, I'm fine. I'm looking at podcast statistics all the time. And I, I've talked to a lot of people that want to start a podcast. My first question is why. And then my second question is usually, you know, what, once they tell me their why. I tell them all the bad things, the cons about it because a lot of people think it's easy. And
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:27:38
Well,
Rich Bennett 1:27:38
it's
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:27:38
when that's with anything, if you make
Rich Bennett 1:27:40
right.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:27:40
it look easy, people think it's.
Rich Bennett 1:27:42
You have a better.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:27:44
That with a camera right?
Rich Bennett 1:27:46
Yeah.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:27:46
I mean, you make it look easy. People think it's.
Rich Bennett 1:27:48
But you actually have a, it's less than 6% of people that start podcast are six. With their pocket, you have a better shot of starting your own business. Did any
Kayla Deickman 1:28:00
Yes.
Rich Bennett 1:28:00
of your questions, who was that. Caleb? Did any of them. Did any of your questions? Okay. I got a question. Oh, God. Oh, God.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:28:07
All right. I have a question. So seven hundred and so it's 750 amazing stories, not taking away from any of the interviews that you've done to date. But is there like one interview? Like let's just say celebrities, anybody, nothing's off the table. Who would you have on your show?
Joe Ayler 1:28:27
Dead or alive.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:28:29
I'm both we can go both.
Rich Bennett 1:28:37
probably be dangerous my older brother. If he was still alive I would
Joe Ayler 1:28:42
It'd
Rich Bennett 1:28:42
love to have him on and
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:28:44
Oh my god talk about beep beep beep
Rich Bennett 1:28:47
beep beep.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:28:47
beep beep beep beep
Rich Bennett 1:28:48
Yeah,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:28:48
yeah.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:28:49
I hear several times though that like when we're recording you say he's in the room with us.
Rich Bennett 1:28:53
I died.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:28:54
So believe that.
Rich Bennett 1:28:55
And screws screws knows this. So where where we record at the lines club building I've had four or five different people in that apparently are mediums which I didn't know about and they sense presence in the building. Scrooge, how many times we have meetings there? The TV's just kicked on and then off.
He came here.
Yeah, but yeah, it's I want to be surprised.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:29:29
it's him
Rich Bennett 1:29:29
If just messing with us. Turn on it. I don't have to watch next time what we're talking about. And we did recording at the club and one of Derek, who, who sometimes brought in a spirit box. And there were you could hear some stuff on it. Yeah.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:29:49
Was he busy tonight?
Rich Bennett 1:29:50
Yeah, he's doing training to be a hair.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:29:54
So
Rich Bennett 1:29:55
whatever I think.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:29:55
So okay, so let's go
Kayla Deickman 1:29:56
living
Rich Bennett 1:29:58
living
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:29:58
moving. Yes.
Rich Bennett 1:30:01
Wow.
There's a lot of them.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:30:08
We can do top five and you can think
Kayla Deickman 1:30:10
about it.
Rich Bennett 1:30:10
If I if I if I if there was anybody that I could get on, to talk to hear their story to famous people stand out, Danny Trai,
Kayla Deickman 1:30:22
you
Rich Bennett 1:30:23
know, Miss the movie, machete. Because he helps a lot of people in recovery and
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:30:30
okay.
Rich Bennett 1:30:30
And Rachel, Rachel's not here, but Wendy Tarr, she'll love this jelly
Wendy Beck 1:30:35
role.
Kayla Deickman 1:30:35
Okay.
Wendy Beck 1:30:36
I'll tell
Rich Bennett 1:30:36
Jelly
Wendy Beck 1:30:37
her.
Rich Bennett 1:30:37
roll to hear jelly rolls, he
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:30:39
Okay.
Rich Bennett 1:30:39
does.
Kayla Deickman 1:30:39
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:30:40
he does.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:30:41
Sherry lives was pretty
Rich Bennett 1:30:42
yeah, now anybody. Local believe it or not. Somebody local, I would love to get on again. It's Barry Glassman to talk history.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:30:55
Okay. Oh my gosh. His grandsons. Pre-K class.
Rich Bennett 1:30:59
Oh, what I was on. He came on one time when he was can executive. And we talked. I forget what we were talking about, but he's a but he loves history, hard for counting history. I would love to get him or Dixlutsky on to talk about it. Dixlutsky is big when it comes to what while you live Kayla, you
Kayla Deickman 1:31:20
for
Rich Bennett 1:31:20
know him?
Kayla Deickman 1:31:21
No, I'm splashing.
Rich Bennett 1:31:22
Oh. His history just local history is amazing.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:31:27
Yes.
Rich Bennett 1:31:28
There's
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:31:28
Okay.
Rich Bennett 1:31:28
my man, Mitchell.
And of course, the Lord's family.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:31:35
Okay, all right, that's good. Now, you three separate episode, not we're
Kayla Deickman 1:31:40
about
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:31:40
not talking but
Kayla Deickman 1:31:41
machete,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:31:42
the three local ones, are you, would you envision those as like separate topics, separate conversations, or like around table?
Kayla Deickman 1:31:50
It
Rich Bennett 1:31:51
could be either, uh,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:31:52
because I'm going to get to working on some things.
Rich Bennett 1:31:55
Well, you mentioned the car one. You definitely got to do that.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:31:59
Yes. Oh, yes.
Rich Bennett 1:32:02
I mean, it all depends if it's all the same
um,
Kayla Deickman 1:32:06
subject,
Rich Bennett 1:32:06
but and the thing is I've had guests on more than once, and we covered different
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:32:12
said,
Rich Bennett 1:32:12
subjects.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:32:13
Oh, right. I know when you have the, there's something about you, where you will get to pulling out the, and sometimes I'll leave it. I'm like, wow. That really took a turn. Like we. I mean, we could just go in all different directions.
Rich Bennett 1:32:24
Well, I
Kayla Deickman 1:32:25
It's the ADHD.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:32:31
That's
Kayla Deickman 1:32:31
what I said,
Rich Bennett 1:32:32
the change the name of the podcast that, oh, look, a squirrel.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:32:36
But that's what everybody loves about it, too. But you never know what you're going to get out of an episode and a lot of it might surprise you.
Rich Bennett 1:32:43
It surprises me a lot. It does. I mean, there's how many times have I come on and and told you about an episode, and just I was floored. It just, that's,
I mean, there's, and there, there's still a lot, a lot I need to learn. I mean, help even with the podcast and stuff. I'm still that's changing so much. I'm still learning all kinds of things. So Kayla, I gotta question
Wendy Beck 1:33:21
for
Kayla Deickman 1:33:21
you
Rich Bennett 1:33:21
to embarrass me. What did I do
Kayla Deickman 1:33:25
to you? You're just you.
Yeah, exactly.
Wendy Beck 1:33:30
It's
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:31
her love
Kayla Deickman 1:33:31
it's
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:31
length.
Kayla Deickman 1:33:32
called, it's called 'Gental Bullying'. Get with the picture.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:33:35
[laughing] Ahhhh,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:37
I like that. Yeah. 'Gental Bullying'.
Rich Bennett 1:33:40
Alright, so now I'm gonna put somebody else on the spot.
Kayla Deickman 1:33:43
Right?
Rich Bennett 1:33:43
Uhm.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:44
ask
Rich Bennett 1:33:44
I
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:45
about a
Wendy Beck 1:33:45
had to
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:45
question
Rich Bennett 1:33:45
you.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:45
for
Rich Bennett 1:33:45
Oh, okay,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:46
Yeah, well we've got to
Rich Bennett 1:33:47
go
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:47
go ahead.
Rich Bennett 1:33:47
ahead.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:48
What was your first O-Shit I made at moment?
Rich Bennett 1:33:53
I don't think I've
Kayla Deickman 1:33:53
the
Rich Bennett 1:33:53
had
Kayla Deickman 1:33:54
movie.
Rich Bennett 1:33:54
that in
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:33:56
Maybe right now.
Rich Bennett 1:33:57
Well, yeah, I mean, I never thought I would do this live. Uhm,
Dan, I don't think I really...
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:34:12
Oh yeah.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:34:13
Ahhhh! I remember
Rich Bennett 1:34:14
Yeah,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:34:14
that face book.
Rich Bennett 1:34:14
yeah,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:34:15
yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:34:15
yeah,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:34:15
Yeah, that was a...
Rich Bennett 1:34:16
Yeah. Yeah, that was... Yeah, 'cause I don't... I always look at the charts. So when I see it just climbing the charts, yeah, I would say that... I would say that... And to see all the different cities and countries that it's in, I mean that's pretty cool, wasn't
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:34:34
it? Uh, thing, you were above MSNBC
Rich Bennett 1:34:38
We still are. Yeah, MSNBC American Radical,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:34:41
podcast deal.
Rich Bennett 1:34:42
which was number one in addiction, and we blew them out of number one.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:34:46
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:34:47
Yeah. That was two years ago. Uhm, I forgot the
Wendy Beck 1:34:50
That's
Rich Bennett 1:34:50
question.
Wendy Beck 1:34:51
because I'm such a good co-host.
Rich Bennett 1:34:53
Oh, that's
Kayla Deickman 1:34:54
it
Rich Bennett 1:34:54
what
Kayla Deickman 1:34:54
was!
Rich Bennett 1:34:54
Yeah, thank you, Wendy.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:34:56
To that point, I think that's what
Joe Ayler 1:34:59
gee,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:34:59
everybody's been saying. You're humble enough that you don't even realize you've reached that "ah-hah" note. Which is a good quality.
Rich Bennett 1:35:07
No.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:35:09
And if you repeat that, I will deny it.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:35:11
We have it on recording.
Joe Ayler 1:35:12
Most intimidating guests.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:35:14
Oh. Ooh.
Kayla Deickman 1:35:16
Uh...
Rich Bennett 1:35:16
Intimidating guests? Oh, wow.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:35:19
Not co-hosts.
Joe Ayler 1:35:20
Give us a real answer,
Rich Bennett 1:35:23
Most
Joe Ayler 1:35:23
man.
Rich Bennett 1:35:24
intimidating guests,
Joe Ayler 1:35:25
that you prepared for and you're like me, and like, or a guest that was, the subject matter was intimidating where you were most intimidating moment in
Rich Bennett 1:35:37
I
Joe Ayler 1:35:37
preparing.
Rich Bennett 1:35:38
don't know if it was
Kayla Deickman 1:35:40
intimidating. I don't know if
Rich Bennett 1:35:41
it was intimidating or if it wasn't intimidating. The most intimidating. Uhm...
Oh, no, man, that's hard.
Joe Ayler 1:35:51
You gotta go through 750 of
Rich Bennett 1:35:53
Yeah.
Joe Ayler 1:35:53
them, so I guess that's not I
Rich Bennett 1:35:55
mean, she's most intimidating, probably Alicia. I'm
joking.
Joe Ayler 1:36:07
We're most, is anybody famous? Oh,
Rich Bennett 1:36:10
yeah. Yeah. I've had a few people on famous.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:13
I
Kayla Deickman 1:36:13
take
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:13
don't
Kayla Deickman 1:36:13
a
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:13
want to
Kayla Deickman 1:36:13
long time to answer
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:14
your question, but I did co-host an with you when you interviewed Connor.
Rich Bennett 1:36:20
Oh,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:21
And I thought that,
Kayla Deickman 1:36:22
yeah.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:23
yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:36:23
But
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:23
like--
Rich Bennett 1:36:23
I wasn't
Wendy Beck 1:36:24
was--
Rich Bennett 1:36:24
intimidated.
Kayla Deickman 1:36:25
I didn't know he
Wendy Beck 1:36:25
It
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:26
was intimidating, but I felt like he's on a national show,
Rich Bennett 1:36:29
like-- Yeah.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:29
and in a lot of seasons.
Rich Bennett 1:36:33
Yeah, and he just-- he's-- they didn't renew him.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:36
Oh, they didn't-- well, he had a good run.
Rich Bennett 1:36:38
Yeah. Um-- And
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:39
I
Kayla Deickman 1:36:40
remember--
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:40
thought-- Like, I This is really cool when
Kayla Deickman 1:36:42
driving
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:42
I was
Kayla Deickman 1:36:42
here, and I was at a high
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:44
It's
Kayla Deickman 1:36:44
point.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:36:44
local.
Rich Bennett 1:36:45
You know what, probably most intimidating was when I had Sheriff Jeff Galer on.
Joe Ayler 1:36:50
Thanks.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:36:50
Oh, that--
Kayla Deickman 1:36:51
oh.
Rich Bennett 1:36:51
Yeah, because I didn't want him pulling up wreckage or anything.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:36:54
Yeah.
Kayla Deickman 1:36:54
Yeah. [LAUGHTER]
Rich Bennett 1:36:57
Yeah, because we were talking about, like, ghost guns and everything. And that was-- that was pretty-- which is funny, because I've been trying to get him on the show. But I wanted to talk to him about Lyme disease, because he's got Lyme disease. So, yeah, definitely--
Joe Ayler 1:37:14
You don't want him pulling up your records or your crossdress in days.
Rich Bennett 1:37:18
It was one time, and it was here.
Joe Ayler 1:37:20
It was-- It was a ugly waitress
Rich Bennett 1:37:22
spaghetti dinner. Screwed even dressed
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:24
up. That was not the only
Rich Bennett 1:37:26
time. This
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:37:26
[LAUGHTER]
Rich Bennett 1:37:26
was--
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:29
I have a picture of you in a Tutu.
Rich Bennett 1:37:32
What?
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:37:32
Oh, man.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:32
I have a picture of you in a Tutu.
Rich Bennett 1:37:34
Oh, I don't think so.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:35
Marjou's got-- I definitely do.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:37:37
Could you post that in the co-host group?
Rich Bennett 1:37:39
What are
Kayla Deickman 1:37:39
Please.
Rich Bennett 1:37:39
you-- Me in a Tutu.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:41
It's
Rich Bennett 1:37:42
a That's--
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:43
No, that was a different time when Kayla had her birthday tea
Joe Ayler 1:37:48
party.
Rich Bennett 1:37:48
Yes.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:49
Two
Joe Ayler 1:37:49
You
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:49
more.
Joe Ayler 1:37:49
were a male dancer. Were you really-- are you kidding me? Like a real one?
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:37:54
Do you know what it's like to talk about intimidating? Do you know what it's like to walk into a nightclub and you're standing there and then with all your friends, and your girlfriends are jumping up on the-- I'm like, what are they doing there? No, no, no, no. You stay down there. I'm like, what-- And little did I know, until I jumped up over the bar, that they were watching my little brother
Joe Ayler 1:38:16
Like
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:38:17
strip.
Joe Ayler 1:38:17
a chip in Dales? That you were? [LAUGHTER] Oh, my
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:38:23
god. Nice.
Joe Ayler 1:38:24
Yes.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:38:27
oh my
Rich Bennett 1:38:28
god.
Joe Ayler 1:38:30
Oh my god. Alright, here we
Rich Bennett 1:38:31
No,
Kayla Deickman 1:38:31
go. I
Rich Bennett 1:38:31
wait
Kayla Deickman 1:38:31
won.
Rich Bennett 1:38:32
a minute. No, no. Here's the thing. Here's
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:38:35
the.
Rich Bennett 1:38:40
Here's the scary thing. I didn't find that she was there until how many years later?
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:38:45
Well because I want to run after you and my then husband grabbed me and said, 'Leaving go!'
Joe Ayler 1:38:50
'Let
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:38:50
like,
Joe Ayler 1:38:50
him go.'
Rich Bennett 1:38:52
Yeah, and then, but after I found out you were there and then I think it was ten years later, you all told me that Mom was there as well.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:39:00
Oh
Rich Bennett 1:39:01
my god. What?
Kayla Deickman 1:39:03
Yeah. Oh my goodness.
Rich Bennett 1:39:04
Yeah, I'm like,
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:39:05
Thanksgiving is going to be super interesting this year.
Rich Bennett 1:39:08
Spicy. No, it was in chippin' nails. Oh,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:39:10
he thought he was the chippin' nails.
Rich Bennett 1:39:13
Damn, boys are bald anymore.
Kayla Deickman 1:39:17
Oh my goodness.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:39:18
We can do a spicy Santa too.
Rich Bennett 1:39:20
I forgot my question who
Kayla Deickman 1:39:21
else
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:39:22
got this. Bet you did.
Rich Bennett 1:39:25
No, it's not Joe shut up. That's
Joe Ayler 1:39:30
the greatest thing I've ever learned about you.
Rich Bennett 1:39:31
It was good money, yeah.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:39:33
That could definitely
Rich Bennett 1:39:34
It
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:39:34
be a
Rich Bennett 1:39:34
was after I got out of the
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:39:36
fly.
Rich Bennett 1:39:36
Marine Court. That was way before my chest drop to ring. It
Joe Ayler 1:39:39
was like five years
Rich Bennett 1:39:41
ago.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:39:44
That was my most embarrassing moment.
Rich Bennett 1:39:47
Whatever, it was a lot of fun.
Kayla Deickman 1:39:49
I feel like that could be a whole podcast.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:39:51
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:39:51
Do what?
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:39:53
This is a whole another series.
Rich Bennett 1:39:55
Oh, no. Robin, I've been trying to get Robin to, because some of the stories that we have growing up could just be hilarious.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:40:04
Let me get throwback Thursday at the
Rich Bennett 1:40:07
podcast.
Kayla Deickman 1:40:07
Oh, that would be
Rich Bennett 1:40:08
Because she out like,
Wendy Beck 1:40:09
so cool.
Rich Bennett 1:40:09
so it was me, my two brothers in Robin. Robin always wanted to do stuff with us, which is like why? No. You know, but she's got some good stories. What about playing?
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:40:21
I'll just give one example. I always wanted to play baseball with them. They because we lived in a court. So the court was the baseball field, you know, can I play, can I play no, no, no, stupid girl, you can't play. And then one day, they said, do you want to play? I said, I do. I want to play. And they said, do they, they're based. And I said, okay. And they made me lay down in the street.
Kayla Deickman 1:40:45
Oh,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:40:45
be the base.
Kayla Deickman 1:40:47
Oh,
Rich Bennett 1:40:49
she's we call robinating.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:40:52
No, I'm not.
Rich Bennett 1:40:52
We did not make you lay down.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:40:54
You did it. And then you slid into me. You didn't even have to.
Kayla Deickman 1:40:57
I
Rich Bennett 1:40:58
was not going to slide because it was a street.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:41:01
Oh, my gosh, Rich.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:41:02
Oh,
Rich Bennett 1:41:03
That's on you.
Kayla Deickman 1:41:03
hi.
Rich Bennett 1:41:03
But we did slide.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:41:04
You know, I have, I've always had really skinny legs. There's nothing like, you know, you're talking to a boy up and they start throwing birds at you.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:41:14
Oh, my gosh. It sounds like Robin has some trauma. She really needs to get off her chest.
Rich Bennett 1:41:18
Oh,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:41:18
I give it to him.
Rich Bennett 1:41:19
We were good brothers. We looked out for her.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:41:23
This is like proof. Obviously, this podcast really has changed you for the better.
Rich Bennett 1:41:27
It
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:41:29
has.
Rich Bennett 1:41:29
It has. Nobody's driven their cars and the rivers.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:41:31
Oh, God.
Rich Bennett 1:41:32
So what? Go ahead, Robin.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:41:37
No. I got to wrap it up. I got here anyway. Yes. I was on a
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:41:41
date.
Rich Bennett 1:41:42
on
Kayla Deickman 1:41:42
I
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:41:42
was
Rich Bennett 1:41:43
a
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:41:43
date. I was this poor boy had a brand new transium happened to be about the time that movie Billy Jack was out. So I've been remembered that movie or I'm really shellmage. Anyway, so we were, he was parked at a and a border, what a front bar and we're and here they come. They think that they're the mafia, you know, big and bad crossing the arms. I'm like, just get, just get out of here. What are we doing? I'm like, Oh my God, just, and I'm saying to this guy. First date, just don't pay attention
Rich Bennett 1:42:17
to me. He played guitar in my band.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:42:19
Don't pay attention to my brothers. Well, they took him outside and they told him to drive his car and the river and he did. And you know that he never called me again.
Rich Bennett 1:42:30
He also quit the band.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:42:33
That's the stuff that they did.
Rich Bennett 1:42:36
We looking out for her.
Kayla Deickman 1:42:39
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:42:39
All right, so Wendy, I have a question for you. So when Wendy first started, we were recording virtually, right?
Wendy Beck 1:42:48
Um, I think the first episode was an invitation from the health department.
Rich Bennett 1:42:53
Yeah, but we were recording virtually.
Wendy Beck 1:42:55
No, I don't think so. No. I'm not sure. I'm not sure, but
Rich Bennett 1:43:01
so Wendy has gotten a lot better since she started co-hosting. Of, however, I'd be debating whether to do this or not, would anybody be interested in hearing an episode of all the bloopers?
Kayla Deickman 1:43:15
yeah,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:43:15
Oh,
Kayla Deickman 1:43:16
yes, absolutely.
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:43:18
I'm
Rich Bennett 1:43:18
Most
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:43:18
like-
Rich Bennett 1:43:19
of them are
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:43:19
Joe
Rich Bennett 1:43:20
Wendy.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:43:20
is not not in- I
Rich Bennett 1:43:22
I don't
Joe Ayler 1:43:22
don't-
Rich Bennett 1:43:23
think I have any bloopers with you. Yeah, wait, I mean, I don't believe
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:43:27
yet. He
Rich Bennett 1:43:28
anything
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:43:28
just turns his mic off.
Rich Bennett 1:43:29
But no, Wendy,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:43:30
That
Rich Bennett 1:43:30
eh.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:43:30
would be fun.
Wendy Beck 1:43:31
There's
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:43:31
a
Rich Bennett 1:43:32
lot of them with Wendy, because it's- cause when she first started, I guess she thought it was live, it's you would say something and then just take
Kayla Deickman 1:43:43
it.
Rich Bennett 1:43:45
You know what, I mean- I still have all those episodes.
Wendy Beck 1:43:50
And I was going to say something nice when I was my turn for a question.
Rich Bennett 1:43:53
Alright, go ahead.
Wendy Beck 1:43:55
Well, I was going to say I think that one of the things that makes you so successful is that when you choose your co-host for your podcast, you are very intentional, because you really think about who's on and who the co-host would really blend with. And I appreciate that because you don't put us in situations that we're not comfortable with. And I think that that- what are you laughing at?
Rich Bennett 1:44:21
Cause the only thing I can think of right now when you said that, I recorded- We did an episode with a group called Sincerely Divorced.
Wendy Beck 1:44:32
Yes.
Rich Bennett 1:44:33
And
Wendy Beck 1:44:33
called-
Rich Bennett 1:44:34
I
Wendy Beck 1:44:34
yes, okay. Alright, we know where this is going.
Rich Bennett 1:44:40
So I asked Wendy, is she would co-host this one with me? And what was your comment?
Wendy Beck 1:44:46
"Why am I the poster child for divorce?" See, my point- my point, right there. Yeah, it was great, yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:44:56
She is the poster child for divorce,
Wendy Beck 1:44:57
That's
Rich Bennett 1:44:58
just.
Wendy Beck 1:44:58
right. Just ask me.
Rich Bennett 1:45:02
What, Kayla?
Kayla Deickman 1:45:03
nothing, I just keep
Rich Bennett 1:45:03
Tell
Kayla Deickman 1:45:04
wondering
Rich Bennett 1:45:04
me-
Kayla Deickman 1:45:04
why you keep-
Rich Bennett 1:45:04
Why are you over
Kayla Deickman 1:45:05
Be
Rich Bennett 1:45:05
there?
Kayla Deickman 1:45:05
back.
Wendy Beck 1:45:06
Well,

Rich Bennett 1:45:51

Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:45:52

Rich Bennett 1:45:59
Mm-hmm,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:46:00
You can go on location anywhere, so everyone
Rich Bennett 1:46:02
tall.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:46:03
listening, listen up if he says where you are. This is your chance to have rich- maybe come and see you. Where would be the coolest place to go?
Rich Bennett 1:46:12

Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:46:13
That's not hard to do, right,
Rich Bennett 1:46:15
I've
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:46:15
alright.
Rich Bennett 1:46:15
listened to it as an Iceland, I've never been
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:46:17
there. Come on, Iceland, come through for us.
Rich Bennett 1:46:19
You've been there, haven't you? So.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:46:22
We have people who are willing to travel there.
Rich Bennett 1:46:25
at the
Kayla Deickman 1:46:25
Well,
Rich Bennett 1:46:25
footies, so a couple years ago, we went to New Orleans and of course I was not allowed to take any equipment down there, I was not allowed to work because I would- I would have been working every day. Um, and I told Wendy about it and we got to get
Wendy Beck 1:46:41
our
Rich Bennett 1:46:43
because
Wendy Beck 1:46:43
So
Rich Bennett 1:46:43
Wendy
Wendy Beck 1:46:43
let's take the show on the road, yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:46:46
said that's what.
Kayla Deickman 1:46:47
Right.
Rich Bennett 1:46:47
Would love to do. I think that would be a blast.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:46:50
Let's do
Rich Bennett 1:46:50
Yeah,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:46:50
it.
Rich Bennett 1:46:51
um, it could be dangerous too, especially ever since my sister had to tell the story about me being a male dancer.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:47:00
So, we're going to Vegas.
Rich Bennett 1:47:02
No, no, no, no. What?
Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:47:05
Yeah, Tammy will definitely
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:47:06

Michelle Hayes & Jennifer Hathaway 1:47:06
bring the
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:47:06
I'll keep you well fed.
Rich Bennett 1:47:08
But I would love, seriously, I think that'd be fun to take it on the road, could go to all these, especially when you get people on from everywhere, it'd be nice if you could do it there.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:47:19
And see some of the people that you've interacted with that you just know through the computer. But to actually be there on sight with them.
Rich Bennett 1:47:26
Yeah, I mean, isolated, isolated, there's another country and I can't remember the name of it. Small place, but I went online to look because my first question to myself was self, where the hell is this? And it's a beautiful, like a beautiful little island southern Africa area. Ooh, that'd be fun. So I even put a post out like a tagged like Iceland tourism. Hey, we got listeners out there, you know, if you want to pay for us and come out.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:47:56
Well, come out.
Rich Bennett 1:47:57
Happy.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:47:58
So Iceland and islands off of South Africa.
Rich Bennett 1:48:01
Yeah, forget the name of it.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:48:02
That's okay.
Rich Bennett 1:48:03
in New Orleans, I
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:48:04
If
Rich Bennett 1:48:04
would
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:48:04
they live
Rich Bennett 1:48:04
love to go back to New Orleans for a week and just record with people.
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:48:09
And your friend, I don't know if we bring the spirit box guy or
Rich Bennett 1:48:13
not. Oh,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:48:13
no,
Rich Bennett 1:48:13
no,
Robyn Burke & Tammie Wingrove 1:48:13
no. I don't think that that's too, I've done enough New Orleans and the ghost tours. That's scary.
Rich Bennett 1:48:20
No, I'm not doing that. Not doing that.
I want to personally think Alex San Filippo of pod match because it was his idea that we do this and I just, I think you went over well. It was kind of embarrassing. There are some little things that I wasn't expecting. But I also went to offer the biggest, most heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us tonight. To my incredible co host, thank you for making every conversation better. And to our phenomenal special guest, Christy Brezlin, Linda, Larry and Brad Delbridge and Cindy Brackens, your stories and support are truly what make this show We also want to give a massive, thank you to the entire team here at the edge with American Legion, pустin for hosting us and making this celebration possible. And I also want to thank them for opening their doors so we can come back once a month to do these library recordings. And for the listeners, thank you. Thank you for tuning in for 750 episodes for sharing your feedback and for supporting the conversations that matter in our community and beyond. You are the reason we do this, and of course, I want to really, really, really thank all of my sponsors past and present because of you, I'm able to do this. A lot of people don't understand how much goes into doing a piecat. And without your support, there's no way we would have been able to do so. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much. It takes a lot to put a podcast together. And my sponsors help add a lot, but I also have some supporters that actually help me when it comes to the editing software, the hosting and so forth. There's a lot that goes in to putting this together. So I want to thank them. And if you can please please visit their websites, visit their businesses, support them. However you can.
