Joseph Webb 1:05
It's going good man. Yeah, and we're sitting here right now with triple digit weather outside So I appreciate you keeping me air conditioned
Rich Bennett 1:10
Yeah, for those of you listening were recording it what is oh July 1st

Today's July
Rich Bennett 1:16
July 1st
Joseph Webb 1:16
1st
Rich Bennett 1:17
I think the heat index today supposed to be 102
Joseph Webb 1:20
Yeah, with it with the humidity
Rich Bennett 1:21
and the
Joseph Webb 1:21

Rich Bennett 1:22
next Days like 110 plus.
Joseph Webb 1:24
It's not gonna stop. Yeah, it's crazy, so I appreciate you not doing an outside episode today with your creative
Rich Bennett 1:29
Yeah, I was singing the bad of Joe.
Joseph Webb 1:31
juice
Rich Bennett 1:31
I said to myself self I wonder if we can record in a dinghy then they're in the pond
Joseph Webb 1:37
Listen, I love that idea. Just not triple digit.
Rich Bennett 1:40
Yeah, no, no,
Joseph Webb 1:41
it
Rich Bennett 1:41
forge
Joseph Webb 1:41
or frozen fishing.
Rich Bennett 1:43
Exactly, all right, so I want to learn more about Joe web first
Joseph Webb 1:47
Okay, yeah
Rich Bennett 1:47
you know cuz Back in high school, at least that's the way it is now It may have been when I went to high school. If it was I don't remember But we're always told Yeah
Joseph Webb 1:59
All
Rich Bennett 2:00
right, so you did have to do that in high school.
Joseph Webb 2:03
Mm-hmm.
Rich Bennett 2:03
I don't know We had to or not.
Joseph Webb 2:06
I remember the conversation.
Rich Bennett 2:07
have
Joseph Webb 2:07
I
Rich Bennett 2:07
Okay,
Joseph Webb 2:07
didn't
Rich Bennett 2:09
well, I don't even know we had a conversation or not, but what was it you wanted to do after high school?
Joseph Webb 2:14
Well in all fairness the conversations to start with the Coast Guard Academy because I started applying to the Coast Guard Academy when I was At 10th grade really and From the onset they said don't expect to make it just like friends of mine that went to West Point
Rich Bennett 2:29
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 2:29
and military academies You know they said hey, it's a it's a tough thing right 1% or thing don't make it your plan a you got to have other plans
Rich Bennett 2:35
got
Joseph Webb 2:35
Got
Rich Bennett 2:36
it
Joseph Webb 2:36
to have a good
Rich Bennett 2:36
GPA and everything right
Joseph Webb 2:37
and like any other 14 year old I ignored the adults in the room And and I said okay, let's see what happens and the academy will give you Let's just say thresholds you meet
Rich Bennett 2:49
Wow
Joseph Webb 2:49
in a number basis there's seven thousand five hundred applicants You've made it to this and this and this so long story short. I got cut at seven fifty five I believe in ninety nine two thousand they took five hundred and fifty so I got close enough to think I'm going to be the man Right Yeah, right I'm grew up on boats. I was comfortable about it and then It didn't work out and I got caught in May of my senior year high school So at that point I thought I had a career path and it wasn't necessarily to serve the country I wasn't there yet I just wanted to I love the Coast Guard boats in the water to speak Bay whatever. So I was like well This is gonna be me. So what I thought was me changed pretty quickly At that point I had some friends that are going to Towson I knew someone in the admin office just kind of a friend and I said do I even have a chance here that's really good grades And she's like, I mean yeah, if you really want to you know I don't know if that could happen today Towson has become you know a little big for its bridges
Rich Bennett 3:43
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 3:43
But back
Rich Bennett 3:43
right
Joseph Webb 3:43
then that was like the look almost a community college at that point so I got in and You know all be it. It was the best thing that ever happened to me because I met my wife there So but you know at that point I didn't really have a career path I was going to college to try to figure it out which
Rich Bennett 3:59
general
Joseph Webb 4:00
General yeah, you know was was flirting with the teaching side of it I you
Rich Bennett 4:05
general studies right
Joseph Webb 4:05
know, yeah, which you know my mother kind of helped me say I was good around kids I was good at explaining things. She goes wrong. She think about being a teacher and I said well I love that idea, you know, and then I had a class my junior year called educational psychology at Towson University in the room with my girlfriend at the time who became my wife who was also going to be a teacher and On the board he starts writing down You know that the lesson was about you know to talk part about being a teacher the business side the math the money the The lack of compensatory Reality right and he's writing is on the board. How much is this for you guys? He starts writing how much is you Don't have cell phones back then
Rich Bennett 4:43
The
Joseph Webb 4:44
cell phone bill wasn't Internet and sell we're not the first thing. It was food right
Rich Bennett 4:51
gas
Joseph Webb 4:51
gas all this right anyway Even without modern cell phone costs we got to the bottom and we did the math and he said is what you would need to make As an individual in a couple to kind of be comfortable. I don't even remember why that was relative But that was like a slap in the face.
Rich Bennett 5:05
So wake up call.
Joseph Webb 5:06
so good morning, and I'm like that ain't gonna
Rich Bennett 5:08
Yeah
Joseph Webb 5:08
Yeah, and that's before I knew that you know my wife and I you know We're gonna be together forever, but I'm like Jesus. She's gonna be a teacher I'm gonna be a teacher that mass not mathing
Rich Bennett 5:17
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 5:17
so my junior year at Towson I switched to business and then just kind of got my feet in at that point and kind of hit my stride Did some internships out of bank and done dog and kind of figured out like hey? I kind of like this environment the people
Rich Bennett 5:31
right
Joseph Webb 5:31
I was working with I met one of first of many mentors, and you know She was a big inspiration. So I said this is kind of where God wants me to
Rich Bennett 5:38
Yeah
Joseph Webb 5:38
be. Exactly what it's gonna look like yet, but you know I kind of felt home so to speak and it kind of evolved from there Well,
Rich Bennett 5:45
and I think with that You feel good helping people too, and that's what
Joseph Webb 5:50
Yes.
Rich Bennett 5:50
you're
Joseph Webb 5:50
Yes
Rich Bennett 5:50
doing. you know, I remember when Car business for a while and I was finance manager, I loved it when people came in That and honestly should not have been able to finance a
Joseph Webb 6:04
car and
Rich Bennett 6:05
I would argue with the banks and get them financing and it was to see the smile on their
Joseph Webb 6:10
yeah
Rich Bennett 6:10
face It's just
Joseph Webb 6:13
Cuz those folks probably knew they were a tough case.
Rich Bennett 6:15
Oh,
Joseph Webb 6:16
so
Rich Bennett 6:16
yeah
Joseph Webb 6:16
it was great
Rich Bennett 6:16
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 6:16
to have someone actually fight for him and advocate
Rich Bennett 6:18
Yep, but but you you have to sit down with him and hear the story everybody like If somebody went into filed bankruptcy, there was a reason they filed
Joseph Webb 6:27
correct
Rich Bennett 6:28
bankruptcy So you gotta hear it because if you just go to the bank and say, well, yeah they filed bankruptcy Okay, well then no they're gonna shoot it down
Joseph Webb 6:37
right away, red line
Rich Bennett 6:38
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 6:39
right
Rich Bennett 6:39
exactly But not man, that's that's also so right out of college you got into working in the banks and
Joseph Webb 6:47
Yeah, I mean it was it was Technically my junior year. I did an internship and then I didn't graduate college because They quickly realized there was something there inside of me and they started getting more responsibility and put me on a full-time payroll and at 19 maybe 20 I was making 40 grant a year which at that point was life-altering
Rich Bennett 7:11
money I don't
Joseph Webb 7:12
have a job my first job was a crab crab place, you know $8
Rich Bennett 7:15
hour Yeah
Joseph Webb 7:15
an So it really lured me away from finishing the degree and not because I had some you know Negative sentiment towards it I just realized at that point like I need money And if I do this I can get it and it was kind of getting in the way So you know, I kind of chose at that time to go down the professional path and not complete my degree Which I don't even think I regret to this point, but I do it would have been nice to have that Mantle piece, but it wouldn't have done anything for me because I learned everything I had
Rich Bennett 7:42
learn
Joseph Webb 7:42
to
Rich Bennett 7:43
Exactly on the job training you can't be yeah
Joseph Webb 7:45
I the one of the you know out of the meeting my wife which you know was God's plan I'll tell you the biggest thing I learned in colleges in the business Rotates about who you know not what you know you gotta know something But if you know the somebody it's better and and I learned that and I have several moments in my life where that kind of came right Back front and center.
Rich Bennett 8:03
A lot of people don't realize how important that
Joseph Webb 8:04
Yeah
Rich Bennett 8:05
is you know you can't just sit in your office expecting to make
Joseph Webb 8:12
And
Rich Bennett 8:13
not even if you're not getting out there you still got to connect with people whether it's online Well, of course online
Joseph Webb 8:20
back then
Rich Bennett 8:20
the thing back then
Joseph Webb 8:21
Yeah phone pick the phone up.
Rich Bennett 8:23
Well,
Joseph Webb 8:23
mm-hmm
Rich Bennett 8:25
Which is something that's missing today
Joseph Webb 8:27
it is
Rich Bennett 8:27
a lot of people don't will not pick up the phone
Joseph Webb 8:30
Correct.
Rich Bennett 8:30
and make that call they'd rather text That's
Joseph Webb 8:32
Yes,
Rich Bennett 8:32
not personal You know, I think that's something where misses that that personal approach
Joseph Webb 8:38
So I I have come across this idea a lot in the last couple years and I put a name to it Which is a little silly when you think about it like cringey But if you get past the funny part of it I use the phrase business intimacy and That connection that get yeah, when you say it's like oh You get past that first with the second word being weird if you think about it like I do believe there's this new norm of not having a connection Yeah Which by the way was part of the birthplace of connected to the web my podcast,
Rich Bennett 9:08
okay.
Joseph Webb 9:08
I wanted to bring it back and we live in a cool area in Maryland, itself, Hartford County, Baltimore Sea, so where like, there's a lot of people that have businesses
Rich Bennett 9:16
Oh,
Joseph Webb 9:17
and we'll get into that in a minute, but like, you know, no one knows because they don't have a marketing team, you know, they have a location sometimes or they don't on a website and I just love meeting people and unfortunately the standard in the world was so low that when you begin to meet people and make real
Rich Bennett 9:32
yeah
Joseph Webb 9:32
connections, it elevates your career, which I appreciate. But it's a shame that was a standard.
Rich Bennett 9:37
>>
Joseph Webb 9:37
if you like, they can talk to you, um, but yeah, I cut my teeth on the phone so that is nonexistent today. If I were to redo my career and teach somebody else, my son or something, I know that it would be an impossibility to cut the teeth on the phone, 200 calls a day and,
Rich Bennett 9:52
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 9:52
you know, I mean, it's not going to happen anymore.
Rich Bennett 9:54
The last time I did sales,
Joseph Webb 9:55
>
Rich Bennett 9:56
the last radio station I worked at, um,
Joseph Webb 10:00
you want to make
Rich Bennett 10:01
them many call calls a day phone, yeah, call calls and this was 2012 is when I left. But I'll be honest with you, most of my contacts I was getting was through email and I would, you know, I would email and introduce myself and then ask if I could call them. If they respond to back, great.
Joseph Webb 10:19
>> Yeah. >
Rich Bennett 10:19
But it knocked down 200 calls a day or whatever it was that you had to make because what's the hardest part about the phone calls, getting past that gatekeeper?
Joseph Webb 10:28
>> Yeah, I mean,
Rich Bennett 10:29
you could be calling that place for months before you get past the gatekeeper.
Joseph Webb 10:33
> They're heading to leave. > Yeah. > And the decision makes
Rich Bennett 10:36
you. > Yup.
Joseph Webb 10:36
>> That's your idea.
Rich Bennett 10:37
yeah. >
Joseph Webb 10:37
> Yeah,
Rich Bennett 10:38
And in person? > I forget it nowadays. >
Joseph Webb 10:42
>
Rich Bennett 10:42
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 10:42
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 10:42
> Even back then, I can't tell you how many buildings I went to and it's like I the cops actually call on
Joseph Webb 10:49
> Hmm.
Rich Bennett 10:50
me at one point.
Joseph Webb 10:51
> First listening and whatever,
Rich Bennett 10:52
> Yup. > Yeah. >
Joseph Webb 10:53
yeah,
Rich Bennett 10:53
Cuz they said you had no soliciting here.
Joseph Webb 10:55
your solicitation.
Rich Bennett 10:56
I was like well I'm not soliciting. I'm not here to sell you anything. I'm here to learn more about your business. Which I was.
Joseph Webb 11:02
> I mean, that's a great statement.
Rich Bennett 11:04
> Yeah. >
Joseph Webb 11:04
Spin but it's factually accurate.
Rich Bennett 11:06
>> Yeah, and
Joseph Webb 11:08
materials with me, I'm just here to say hi and introduce myself.
Rich Bennett 11:11
>> Yeah, that didn't work.
Joseph Webb 11:12
> Yeah.
Rich Bennett 11:14
> That didn't work. They still beer to be out, but it was, yeah, it's funny cuz and I love doing sales.
Joseph Webb 11:20
>
Rich Bennett 11:20
> Yeah. > I mean
Joseph Webb 11:21
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 11:21
I did radio sales, I did sales, car sales, all kinds of sales. And with sales, you're going to make money. Make
Joseph Webb 11:27
copier
Rich Bennett 11:28
good money. I found that out the hard way after some time, but it's changed so
Joseph Webb 11:33
>>
Rich Bennett 11:33
much.
Joseph Webb 11:33
It has.
Rich Bennett 11:34
I
Joseph Webb 11:34
>
Rich Bennett 11:34
mean, just, it's amazing. And even when I was selling cars, I wouldn't wait for people to come to dealership. Airstimes, I would take a demo, I would go to social security or whatever and sit out there and take whatever you had to do. You had to do it because not everybody's going to come to
Joseph Webb 11:51
>>
Rich Bennett 11:51
you.
Joseph Webb 11:51
I love that.
Rich Bennett 11:52
Got it, you have
Joseph Webb 11:54
>
Rich Bennett 11:54
to.
Joseph Webb 11:54
Well, it's the old weight for the phone to ring or making the phone ring. And I think in any sales job, including my field now, the younger generation is almost trained to have the perfect process ready once the phone rings. And they forget about the part that what if the phone doesn't ring?
Rich Bennett 12:10
Yeah. > Yeah.
Joseph Webb 12:11
Your software, your product could be amazing. But if someone doesn't call you, or the phone doesn't ring air quotes.
Rich Bennett 12:19
> Yep.
Joseph Webb 12:19
> Well, how good is that product? And that brings in a whole other thing, I
Rich Bennett 12:23
see
Joseph Webb 12:23
>>
Rich Bennett 12:23
what the
Joseph Webb 12:23
You know, marketing and social media, which is, you
Rich Bennett 12:26
hell is
Joseph Webb 12:26
gotta
Rich Bennett 12:26
it.
Joseph Webb 12:27
do it now. You
Rich Bennett 12:29
>
Joseph Webb 12:29
know, but yeah, it's crazy and the other thing is too, when your demographic includes younger people, that's where you see some of those changes. So
Rich Bennett 12:37
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 12:37
for
Rich Bennett 12:37
>
Joseph Webb 12:37
me, wanting to make that connection, I have met people who are wonderful clients that don't want it. Not an adversity to it, they don't have time, the text message is the flow that they need, that's their norm, and that's their way of appreciating.
Rich Bennett 12:51
>> Right.
Joseph Webb 12:52
> Yeah. > By the value I provide, but it's gotta be over text. Sometimes it's security clearances, things like that, they can't call in the daytime, without it. You
Rich Bennett 12:59
That's on my...
Joseph Webb 12:59
know, like, and that's hard for me, almost pulling my personality back, recognizing that they appreciate me bringing value, but they don't need to talk all the time.
Rich Bennett 13:09
>> Exactly.
Joseph Webb 13:09
And I'm like, but I want to. > You know, but
Rich Bennett 13:11
>
Joseph Webb 13:11
they
Rich Bennett 13:11
What?
Joseph Webb 13:12
don't.
Rich Bennett 13:12
>
Joseph Webb 13:13
a
Rich Bennett 13:13
What
Joseph Webb 13:13
talk. > The other
Rich Bennett 13:14
thing is too, and I think as a society, we expect to response too quick. > You email somebody, you text somebody, you're sitting there like, okay, they read it. How come they haven't responded yet? Are they haven't read it
Joseph Webb 13:29
yet? > Or
Rich Bennett 13:29
the text message.
Joseph Webb 13:29
the three dice
Rich Bennett 13:30
>
Joseph Webb 13:30
of
Rich Bennett 13:30
Yeah. >
Joseph Webb 13:31
Why isn't he responding? > What the heck's going on?
Rich Bennett 13:34
>> Maybe they're working, maybe they're driving, you don't know what's going on,
Joseph Webb 13:39
> Yeah.
Rich Bennett 13:39
you just be patient
Joseph Webb 13:41
>
Rich Bennett 13:41
and
Joseph Webb 13:41
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 13:41
wait, but patience is something a lot of
Joseph Webb 13:43
I
Rich Bennett 13:43
people have.
Joseph Webb 13:44
involved a little bit too, because with my family schedule and like any professional of the work life balance, I do tend to say, I'm there if you need me
Rich Bennett 13:53
Right.
Joseph Webb 13:54
after hours.
Rich Bennett 13:54
Oh, yeah.
Joseph Webb 13:55
message is great, because I can respond when I get a chance. Now it's funny, because this middle bracket of age is, and I'm gonna arbitrarily make it up, 35 to 55. That's not the way they operate. When they text you, they wanna respond, and if you don't respond, it's why. But the younger people, they'll come back two days later after not responding, and I think I'm getting ghosted. And they're
Rich Bennett 14:15
Text
Joseph Webb 14:15
like, hey Joe, I got what you need. I already emailed it to you. And I'm like, Oh, thanks, you know.
Rich Bennett 14:19
That's true.
Joseph Webb 14:20
Again, it's just normal for them,
Rich Bennett 14:22
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 14:22
so it's an interesting dynamic trying to live in all those worlds at the same time.
Rich Bennett 14:25
Oh, yeah, yeah, it's, uh.
Joseph Webb 14:28
And then you have, I have seen your clients who are like, I don't have an email, you know. Now those
Rich Bennett 14:33
are, or they show how
Joseph Webb 14:35
they
Rich Bennett 14:35
they are
Joseph Webb 14:35
have a well. Right. I mean, seniors at this point, anybody between 50 and
Rich Bennett 14:39
well. Yeah,
Joseph Webb 14:39
70, you know, they got an email address, they have a computer, or an iPad or something, but that operational line, they're like, no, I don't want to do a lot of times as closures. When can I come and sit down at your office, you know,
Rich Bennett 14:49
sure. And now you have your own business doing the mortgage, right? Or are you working for another company?
Joseph Webb 14:54
So looking for another company, um, that was one of the options, and I was fully prepared and credentialed to have my own business,
Rich Bennett 14:59
Okay.
Joseph Webb 15:00
but there's a lot of like boring compliance and cost and just just like administratively just repeat, rinsom repeat,
Rich Bennett 15:07
Right.
Joseph Webb 15:08
the audits, which I'll never have anything I would be worried about. But it just consumes you. So I made the decision with my wife to find somebody I could attach to when I for years ago, when I decided to leave the company, I was with. And then just pure circumstance, or you know, I do have a faith model in there. So I believe it was a little bit of a purpose.
Rich Bennett 15:27
But
Joseph Webb 15:28
I got reconnected with an old body of mine, but I worked with my first, my second mortgage job outside of the Dundal company. And we reconnected after like 15 years had.
Rich Bennett 15:37
Wow.
Joseph Webb 15:38
And then he kind of like, you know, Godfather made me know if I couldn't refuse. And the irony is he didn't know I was looking. I had my radars off, but he didn't know that yet.
Rich Bennett 15:46
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 15:47
connected. It was just cut up like good old times. It wasn't an interview.
Rich Bennett 15:50
Right.
Joseph Webb 15:50
And then he came back and said, hey, I got this funny feeling, man, we got to work together. And that was Chad Levens, of Leven's home mortgage out of Burlington. So he's like the freak of mayor of cavity
Rich Bennett 15:59
Just
Joseph Webb 16:00
Grace. He's
Rich Bennett 16:00
going to
Joseph Webb 16:00
the.
Rich Bennett 16:00
see I
Joseph Webb 16:00
He's a high school baseball coach of cavity grace. Okay.
Rich Bennett 16:03
okay,
Joseph Webb 16:03
Uh, varsity varsity baseball, um, well, next year's is last year. Uh, but, you know, it was just really cool how that happened and just felt right. Um, and, uh, I brought my wife along for kind of meet and greet. And she was cool with it.
Rich Bennett 16:16
right
Joseph Webb 16:16
Um, which, which by the way, it was funny because I did think I had a company locally who was going to be a perfect match. I just felt right.
Rich Bennett 16:22
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 16:22
I'm saying, you know, in my partnership, my marriage, we make decisions as a team. Can you meet my wife?
Rich Bennett 16:28
Yeah. Yeah.
Joseph Webb 16:29
Yeah. And they kept putting it all
Rich Bennett 16:29
there.
Joseph Webb 16:30
meter later. One me later, and at one point, I'm like, why don't you want to meet my wife like I told you it's part of my decision
Rich Bennett 16:36
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 16:36
process. Well, it's funny. It worked out, it all good. But, yeah. So I don't work for myself. Although it's only three of us, Chad and his wife, Becky, Levens, name on the door. And me. So in that relationship, both, you know, employee relationship and just, you know, how we produce Chad and our only producers,
Rich Bennett 16:55
Right. One
Joseph Webb 16:55
there's a, there's a beautiful partnership there that he makes sure that he treats me as a partner, not an employee. And those are the words out of his mouth that all of us benefit from me being a part of that team. So, I do use the word partner. U, he told me to do it. And, uh, which I appreciate, you know, because technically he has the termination authority, but they'll never be any reason to do that. It's I'm not that guy. But at the same time, I do appreciate his respect for that.
Rich Bennett 17:20
Right.
Joseph Webb 17:21
In the sense, I feel self employed and entrepreneur because of how I go to get my business. Um, but there is a reputation that is built around him and his wife. the last ten years, and I'm just honored to be a part of that because it's a
Rich Bennett 17:37
Foundation,
Joseph Webb 17:37
wonderful reputation.
Rich Bennett 17:38
And that's all you guys do. A strictly mortgage financing.
Joseph Webb 17:40
Yeah, residential. We do all kinds of residential, but it's only residential.
Rich Bennett 17:43
Oh,
Joseph Webb 17:44
yeah. Yeah, hmm,
Rich Bennett 17:45
which could probably get into commercial. It could probably be a big headache.
Joseph Webb 17:48
I tell you what, man, it's the wild wild west. There's like anything else. There's a huge opera.
Rich Bennett 17:52
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 17:53
And huge risk and huge sales cycles. The challenge with commercial is a really successful deal could take 12 to 18 months. So
Rich Bennett 18:00
pay
Joseph Webb 18:00
you just got to
Rich Bennett 18:01
wow.
Joseph Webb 18:01
You know, a lot of decision makers banking at that point is not your banker at the teller. There's a board.
Rich Bennett 18:07
Right.
Joseph Webb 18:07
Stuff just takes longer. And shot and I both have kind of flooded with it over our careers. It always comes up. And it's just nothing we decided to jump into because at this point, I'm 45 to relearn a brand new type of thing. And it's also a business to business, sales
Rich Bennett 18:24
yeah,
Joseph Webb 18:24
opposed
Rich Bennett 18:24
which
Joseph Webb 18:24
to
Rich Bennett 18:25
is
Joseph Webb 18:25
me,
Rich Bennett 18:25
a lot different.
Joseph Webb 18:25
I have a business consumer market, you know, and I, you know, I advertise to real estate agents, which is very similar to business to business, but it's not the same thing. So yeah, I stay away from it. Um, and I have people that I can suggest to talk to in that
Rich Bennett 18:40
Right.
Joseph Webb 18:40
scenario. Yeah, residential only keeps a streamline. Within that residential world, I have a lot of different avenues. We're a brokerage, so I'm not tied to, you know, the Wells Fargo Bank
Rich Bennett 18:50
Right.
Joseph Webb 18:51
American name, which gives us advantage in the marketplace. Um, but you know, that's nearly here and we're there. It's kind of exciting about it.
So the business model to help the most people, you spread your net wider, right? It's a simple concept, and that involves real relationships. So most of my time and energy is cultivating the relationships, trying to provide value to them. Which is a wild, wild west in itself, because, you know, there are a lot of larger volume relationships that are based on a financial relationship. And that's just not a sandbox that I play in. It's more about I want to make sure you know I'm not like everybody else. And if the reason I gave you is attractive, you can help your customers with that model. Then I'd love to have a relationship, but I don't, I don't throw money out there and try to lure people in because then the values to financial relationship.
Rich Bennett 20:01
Right.
Joseph Webb 20:01
And if Joe, too, comes up and doubles the financial relationship that I lose it. So I'm trying to create a value where they're like, wow, Joe, Joe gives me this.
Rich Bennett 20:11
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 20:11
There are things that I provided them that I believe are unique. So, um, yeah, that's the primary version. I don't sit down and market necessarily for consumers
Rich Bennett 20:20
Okay.
Joseph Webb 20:20
future home buyers. All those social media does allow me to have some fun with that. Um, the craziest thing is I've been doing this for a long time, you know, over 20 years. And I still have people that will just out of the sense of decency say, I'm so sorry. I didn't use you. I didn't know you still did this. And I'm thinking how many more posts do I have to put out there to remind people that know me for 20 years. I still do this. So that's why I appreciate you having me on today because I feel like I got to still tell my story. And I did learn that Earl and Sales is that you got to tell your story to as many people as possible
Rich Bennett 20:50
Yep.
Joseph Webb 20:51
and let them judge. If they like it, they'll become a client. If they don't they can move on. That's okay. Don't need any wrong story. I mean, he didn't didn't vibrate them
Rich Bennett 20:58
Well, the other thing is to especially with social media,
Joseph Webb 21:02
well.
Rich Bennett 21:02
we we know how yeah, you could put that post out today and it can be seen by 1,000 100 whatever.
Joseph Webb 21:10
Yes.
Rich Bennett 21:12
But a year from now, where's that post going to be? So you constantly constantly have to keep posted with what we're doing here podcast.
Next year, five years, 10 years from now, it's still there.
Joseph Webb 21:28
It has a value.
Rich Bennett 21:29
And you and it's not just other social media. Well, it'll be seen by your friends and everything. Yeah, well, this is going everywhere. It's like the world wide web.
you know, it goes out there.
Joseph Webb 21:45
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 21:45
Yeah, you know, and I don't think a lot of businesses get the other thing that cracks me up and I'll see this. Sometimes it my friends that are in radio, I know you're going to hate me for saying this, but it's the truth. You'll see a lot of businesses are excited to get on a radio station or even a TV station to pitch their business. So they do and it goes live, then it's gone. It's no longer there. You know, unless the st I you know, the TV station puts it on YouTube or the radio station decides to turn it into.
Joseph Webb 22:26
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 22:27
pockets, whatever.
Joseph Webb 22:30
You're paying for a minute of a period in time.
Rich Bennett 22:32
Yeah, which is usually like 60 seconds. It's not long period.
Joseph Webb 22:36
and you get what you pay for most of the time, but then
Rich Bennett 22:37
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 22:37
it's gone. That's really interesting. I mean, that's that's people don't realize that.
Rich Bennett 22:41
Oh, they don't.
Joseph Webb 22:41
I've never to be fair. I've never done major media broadcasting like
Rich Bennett 22:45
because.
Joseph Webb 22:45
that
Rich Bennett 22:46
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 22:47
wasn't in my budget throughout the years. And when it was in the budget, we had it. At the other company that I had and we just, we couldn't get any reasonable sense of the return.
Rich Bennett 22:56
right.
Joseph Webb 22:56
So
Rich Bennett 22:56
It
Joseph Webb 22:56
we just stayed away from it.
Rich Bennett 22:57
Well, yeah, but you're talking about advertising there.
Joseph Webb 23:00
Sort of. Yeah,
Rich Bennett 23:01
yeah, I know there are some
Joseph Webb 23:02
compassing
Rich Bennett 23:03
stations that will have a business or come on. Let's say they're doing
Joseph Webb 23:08
a segment one
Rich Bennett 23:09
week a week on on mortgages,
Joseph Webb 23:12
hmm. Yeah,
Rich Bennett 23:13
All right, well,
Joseph Webb 23:13
the
Rich Bennett 23:14
we
Joseph Webb 23:14
ratings.
Rich Bennett 23:15
got to get Joe. Yeah, we got to get let's get Joe web on to talk about it. Yeah, you know, but then it's going after that advertising. That's another thing.
Joseph Webb 23:22
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 23:22
Yeah, you're going to pay an arm in the leg. Yeah. And again, you're only going to get so many what we call spots. And then once those commercials are finished Yeah,
Joseph Webb 23:35
narrowing.
Rich Bennett 23:35
that's it. Yeah. With what we do you can do what we call baked in ads. So like my episodes will have an exclusive sponsor and in the middle of that episode, you'll hear me talking about the sponsor. And
Joseph Webb 23:52
that's great. And go
Rich Bennett 23:53
away. It doesn't go away 10 years 50 years. Well, maybe not 50 years. God, I'll be maybe 50 years.
Joseph Webb 24:01
God willing. God willing.
Rich Bennett 24:02
I'll be 113 and still doing it, but you know, that's, is that right? 63 plus?
Joseph Webb 24:08
That he worked listening to.
Rich Bennett 24:09
I was. Yeah. We're talking to Joe today. It's the funny thing. I don't even I didn't even plan it this way to get into podcasting what we're talking about now, but amazing to people you meet doing this. And you're building your network.
Joseph Webb 24:29
it's
Rich Bennett 24:29
But talk about age, our oldest guest 101 years
Joseph Webb 24:34
old. I, I love it
Rich Bennett 24:36
100. Well,
Joseph Webb 24:37
lady or gentleman?
Rich Bennett 24:38
It was a young lady.
Joseph Webb 24:39
Okay.
Rich Bennett 24:40
It still had a personal trainer.
Joseph Webb 24:42
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 24:42
And still writing books.
Joseph Webb 24:44
I love it.
Rich Bennett 24:44
But what amazed me most was the fact that she was actually getting on the computer to record virtually.
Joseph Webb 24:50
I
Rich Bennett 24:50
I mean,
Joseph Webb 24:50
mean,
Rich Bennett 24:51
that's great.
Joseph Webb 24:51
great.
Rich Bennett 24:51
Oh,
Joseph Webb 24:52
That's
Rich Bennett 24:52
she was.
Joseph Webb 24:53
great.
Rich Bennett 24:53
Awesome. And the funny thing is, yeah, wait, because Wendy co-hosted that with me. We're looking at her. It's like, there's no way she's 100.
Joseph Webb 25:02
I love I was going to say if she's that sprie then it didn't
Rich Bennett 25:05
really a
Joseph Webb 25:05
reason. It's not by accident.
Rich Bennett 25:06
Did you watch Open day for the Orioles?
Joseph Webb 25:11
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 25:11
Yeah. See they got it throughout the first pitch.
Joseph Webb 25:14
Yes.
Rich Bennett 25:14
109
Joseph Webb 25:14
years. Yes.
Rich Bennett 25:16
Not in the wheelchair
Joseph Webb 25:17
No.
Rich Bennett 25:17
in a walker.
Joseph Webb 25:18
And he got it there.
Rich Bennett 25:19
Yeah. Oh,
Joseph Webb 25:20
Great.
Rich Bennett 25:21
age, that's, you know, after seeing him and telling that lady, that tells me age is nothing.
Joseph Webb 25:26
Yeah. Yeah. No, you're not, you're not, you're not lying about that.
Rich Bennett 25:30
Yeah. So with that, what made you decide to start doing the podcast or is it always a good or you're strictly video, right? Or is it also?
Joseph Webb 25:39
No. I didn't. I have not broad broadcasted on the audio only.
Rich Bennett 25:43
Okay.
Joseph Webb 25:44
Although, because I did the video first, I will have the ability to go back and extract
Rich Bennett 25:49
Right.
Joseph Webb 25:50
the audio. So I'm kind of playing with that right
Rich Bennett 25:52
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 25:52
now. But it's actually a pretty easy connection. So I worked at the same company out of white marsh for 17 years. The name changed, but the people
Rich Bennett 26:00
Right.
Joseph Webb 26:00
didn't and had a great relationship with those people. I did a lot of good things and it was just time where like I was bursting at the seams ready to travel these new things and the company took my ideas. They said, hey, we're not going to go in that direction. So not anything negative. I decided it was time to kind of jump out of the nest of.
Rich Bennett 26:17
The. And
Joseph Webb 26:19
you know, with a non-compete that lasted a long time, I realized
Rich Bennett 26:22
I
Joseph Webb 26:22
had to start over and then have any clients. And I'm like, holy guacamole, that's crazy, right? With all due respect, and I respect that. I signed the paper. So it's all good. No heart feelings there. So I'm like, okay. Well, let's have this tough conversation in the mirror. You know, I can repeat what I already did. Try to rebuild it because I did help them build that company. I was,
Rich Bennett 26:41
right.
Joseph Webb 26:43
can, you know, I start going on a list with my fingers, A, B, C, D, F, J. And what I end up coming to is I'm going to, I'm an expert in this one field. I'm going to grow my knowledge base in the other fields. I was doing 90% reverse mortgages and reverse mortgage purchasing.
Rich Bennett 26:58
Wow.
Joseph Webb 26:58
But I was licensed across the country. I had 17 licenses. So
Rich Bennett 27:02
I
Joseph Webb 27:02
I didn't have any intimacy with the customer because I was phone only, right? And I just missed one of the things I was pitching, by the way, to the company is let's grow our Maryland base. And they're
Rich Bennett 27:12
right.
Joseph Webb 27:13
customers are other states. We don't have a density to put the money in Maryland, which they were factually accurate, by the
Rich Bennett 27:19
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 27:19
way. That was correct, and I'm like, but geez, you know, so I was like, I really want to really develop roots professionally in Maryland and grow that tree metaphorically. So once I came to that, I moved it on the next paper and I'm like, how do I do it?
Rich Bennett 27:34
The
Joseph Webb 27:34
You know, and there's lots of ideas, right? And although I'm comfortable in social media and it's fun, I didn't see a pathway that that was the way to grow a business fast enough.
Rich Bennett 27:42
Right.
Joseph Webb 27:42
I know that my strength, God gave me a superpower, which is one of the things that I talked about in my podcast, what my superpower is. And mine is the connection I can make with somebody very quickly. I can make somebody feel like they've known me for 20 years in five minutes. And that's not a manipulative tool, that is the reality of my personality. So I recognize that, I'm saying, okay, how do I monetize that in a non-snicky way?
Rich Bennett 28:05
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 28:05
I can use my gift, and also bring people together, I mean, people comfortable, I can communicate with all of us of life, I'm not a hoodie toy toity, and I'm not homeless, right? So I can talk to anybody up and down,
Rich Bennett 28:17
right,
Joseph Webb 28:17
who's had 15 houses in an entire, let's say, portfolio, or his generational poverty. They've come out of the first one in five generations of my house. I can talk to anybody. So I'm like, how do I get that out there? And it became obvious at that point you just have to meet people. You got to shake hands, look at me in the eye, and then I'm like, how do I do it? And I had an idea of the YouTube channel. I saw that I did a random Google search, and at that time, a couple years ago, I did not know yet, that Google bought YouTube. And I'm like, hmm, well this is a sign, that those two powerhouses are friends now, right? Right.
Rich Bennett 28:51
right ,
Joseph Webb 28:51
One owns the other, by the way, and I'm like, hmm, okay, I got to get a YouTube channel. So when you go down that, that rabbit hole, it's like hold it for a moment, you know, you learn all this,
Rich Bennett 28:59
uh-huh,
Joseph Webb 29:00
mental overload. And I'm like, okay, I don't need to be a YouTube sensation like all these people. That's not where I'm going to go with it, but that's going to be the house that I build out of. And then I kind of got into podcasting, like, okay, I can do a podcast. I think I have a space in my basement. I'm comfortable talking. It'll be a little awkward at first, but I'll get better at it. And so I just said, okay, so it took me a couple months. I shopped around for equipment. I didn't have a lot of budget because I was starting.
Rich Bennett 29:28
Right.
Joseph Webb 29:28
And I found out quickly that the only thing that I really had to spend a lot of money on for video was the cord that connected the communication devices to the recording device.
Rich Bennett 29:37
Okay.
Joseph Webb 29:37
Everything else, the technology's pretty much
Rich Bennett 29:40
you're,
Joseph Webb 29:40
the same unless yeah, huge. And I didn't have a fancy camera. Uh, my research showed me that the cell phone that I have, the
Rich Bennett 29:47
work,
Joseph Webb 29:47
Samsung
Rich Bennett 29:47
yeah.
Joseph Webb 29:48
And ironically, it's the lighting. The lighting throws it off the auto lighting on a cell phone. I don't know how to be a photographer. So if somebody gave me or I bought a fancy camera, I wouldn't know what to do with it. And I don't have the time to learn.
Rich Bennett 30:01
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 30:02
And that's a whole career.
Rich Bennett 30:03
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 30:03
I
Rich Bennett 30:03
Oh,
Joseph Webb 30:03
didn't want to be a
Rich Bennett 30:04
yeah.
Joseph Webb 30:04
photographer, right? So I almost went audio only and I'm like, let me just try a couple and see how it goes.
Rich Bennett 30:10
Right.
Joseph Webb 30:10
And the lighting that was able to get, I got some lights that shine on it. And I'm like, you know, this is not bad. So I just started and I'm not one of those people that has to come out of the gate with perfection.
Rich Bennett 30:20
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 30:20
I'm okay with imperfection.
Rich Bennett 30:22
You were getting the content out there, which is the important
Joseph Webb 30:24
And
Rich Bennett 30:24
part.
Joseph Webb 30:25
everything that I research said don't try to be perfect. And it matched who I am. I'm not perfect anyway. So I said, let's just
Rich Bennett 30:33
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 30:33
do it. And I got lucky with a couple of guests that were just so dynamic and so fun. And I don't I didn't focus necessarily on the views and all the analytics. I just wanted to say, is this a cool thing or people? And I didn't hear any
Rich Bennett 30:50
negative
Joseph Webb 30:51
feedback for like four or five episodes and I said, I think I got something here. So so my thing is that I will find dynamically interesting people and then I request coffee with them.
Rich Bennett 31:03
Okay.
Joseph Webb 31:03
And that coffee is a way for me to tell them how I pay my bills and just share what I do for a living. And for the value of that coffee, which I will pay for you if. Is
Rich Bennett 31:14
Wow.
Joseph Webb 31:16
not for me to pitch them a mortgage business. They get the podcasts for free. And so many people don't say no to that, right? And so during that time, I let them know who I am.
Rich Bennett 31:26
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 31:26
Yeah. And in my business, usually there are a thousand of me. And I know that. I'm not scared of that. I can see people. I'm unique, but there's a thousand other people that you don't know who are unique and not. So my thing is when somebody says that magic phrase in a room that I will not be in. I won't be in that room. Man, I think I'm going to
Rich Bennett 31:44
That's
Joseph Webb 31:44
buy
Rich Bennett 31:44
right.
Joseph Webb 31:44
a house. This is crazy. My wife and I were ready to move, right? I want someone in that room to be like, I got a
Rich Bennett 31:49
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 31:49
guy. know, even if they're not my client, and it's okay if they're like, this is a really good guy. Call him and see how he does. That's all I
Rich Bennett 31:57
Right.
Joseph Webb 31:57
want. All
Rich Bennett 31:58
You
Joseph Webb 31:58
my guests, I don't ever want you to be salespeople. Just connect, say, hey, here's somebody with high integrity.
Rich Bennett 32:04
Yep, you can
Joseph Webb 32:05
have a conversation with and whatever
Rich Bennett 32:07
happens.
Joseph Webb 32:08
actually the way I run my business. I don't assume that they're going to be my client. I try to earn their business. I do respect the opportunity when it comes over. And I
Rich Bennett 32:16
That's
Joseph Webb 32:16
covet it, right? And they get that impression. So it's been great. And I'll say that it is produced a significant change in my volume. inadvertently, you know?
Rich Bennett 32:25
It's, it's a, it's a perfect way of building your brand. And the thing
Joseph Webb 32:32
is,
Rich Bennett 32:34
eh, I still don't know why a lot of people don't do this. When people see the face that goes for brand, you are more trust.
Joseph Webb 32:43
And that funny.
Rich Bennett 32:45
It
Joseph Webb 32:45
doesn't seem like
Rich Bennett 32:46
rocket cycle. I know. But it's still amazing how many people don't do that.
Joseph Webb 32:50
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 32:51
don't want to put their face out there.
Joseph Webb 32:53
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 32:53
It's like, yeah. It's your business or even you work for the business without your partner. Put your face out there.
Joseph Webb 32:58
Yeah. They
Rich Bennett 32:58
You're meeting clients. They're seeing your face. It makes sense
Joseph Webb 33:04
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 33:04
to me. But for some reason, it doesn't make sense to everybody.
Joseph Webb 33:08
And, and because I'm not spending a substantial lot of money on it, there's no pressure. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 33:13
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 33:13
For me to pressure them. So it's a very non-invasive relationship. Yeah. And in that podcast, I, after I give my, what, what I guess you could call a commercial for me, what I do for a li--
Rich Bennett 33:26
Right.
Joseph Webb 33:27
I make sure it immediately done employee shifts, the conversation shifts. It is
Rich Bennett 33:30
you.
Joseph Webb 33:30
all about
Rich Bennett 33:31
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 33:31
I want to get a good episode that makes you proud. And I tell all the guests that I want you to tell your family you've got to see this, you
Rich Bennett 33:39
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 33:39
know. And if you're not, then I did something wrong. And I'm not spending money. I know time is money. But I'm not spending money to do it. The editing software that I have is not expensive.
Rich Bennett 33:49
Right.
Joseph Webb 33:49
So, you know, it's not the first thing I do every day. I got to work it in because it's not--
Rich Bennett 33:54
I'm not doing it.
Joseph Webb 33:55
Bill. Bill's maybe it will one day. I've really, really enjoyed it and meeting people. And I, the one thing
Rich Bennett 34:01
that
Joseph Webb 34:02
I, somebody that I'm shocked is how honest people have been on air.
Rich Bennett 34:07
Oh, yeah.
Joseph Webb 34:07
And I'll say on camera too, but things that I, that I knew existed in this person's life that they just opened up about. And I'm proud that I'm, I created an environment where they're okay, sharing those stories. And you'll see my reaction.
Rich Bennett 34:20
Oh, yeah.
Joseph Webb 34:21
Shocked. I'm like, my eyes are saying, you just said that on air. And afterwards, when we cut, I'm like, did you realize you just went with it? And they're like, oh, yeah, I'm good. And I'm like, wow, okay? It's
Rich Bennett 34:33
It's
Joseph Webb 34:33
amazing.
Rich Bennett 34:34
amazing how many people were, and it's funny because a lot of them are nervous when they first come on.
Joseph Webb 34:40
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 34:40
But then they open up. And they'll mention something that they've never mentioned to anybody else before.
Joseph Webb 34:49
Exclusive.
Rich Bennett 34:49
But yeah, yeah. But it's building. It's building that
Joseph Webb 34:54
care.
Rich Bennett 34:55
It's it's showing that this person can be trusted.
Joseph Webb 35:00
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 35:01
And again, I, I think people are missing. How many episodes have you done?
Joseph Webb 35:06
So 2025
Rich Bennett 35:08
Okay.
Joseph Webb 35:09
had 25 episodes, just turned out to be one a month and 25
Rich Bennett 35:14
25. Okay.
Joseph Webb 35:16
And I just started a brand new thing, which actually nobody knows about, but they, they may have kind of inadvertently seen there was something different. I just call that season one.
Rich Bennett 35:26
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 35:26
Retriever. yeah. I
Rich Bennett 35:27
yeah, yeah,
Joseph Webb 35:27
mean, I refer to that as season
Rich Bennett 35:28
one.
Joseph Webb 35:29
What season two is only going to have a number of episodes, a small number and they it's going to be seven. And I'll, I'll give you an exclusive on your podcast if you want that inside of the video. I've embedded a four second secret
Rich Bennett 35:45
letter
that
Joseph Webb 35:47
I just hold up
Rich Bennett 35:48
and I
Joseph Webb 35:49
cut. And I write the letter on my thing and I up.
Rich Bennett 35:52
Oh, one
Joseph Webb 35:53
letter. One letter. And I wanted to, I'm going to increase viewership. And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to let the businesses that have all been on the podcast.
Rich Bennett 36:02
Right.
Joseph Webb 36:03
You know, let them know. And all their guests and all social media that if you watch the entire season and you get all the letters, it's a scramble. Seven letters. Well, I made a word out of it because I already know what it's going to be. And if you
Rich Bennett 36:15
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 36:16
that word and your name will go into a hat for a raffle for a substantial price.
Rich Bennett 36:22
Nice. So
Joseph Webb 36:23
it's a way to kind of have fun. And it's funny because I won't tell the podcast guest and when they're reviewing the, when they're, I let them review it when they're reviewing it. They're like, what is that letter? What?
Rich Bennett 36:33
hell?
Joseph Webb 36:33
What the
Rich Bennett 36:34
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 36:35
purposeful. It's not a mistake. And they were like, we thought I
Rich Bennett 36:37
It's
Joseph Webb 36:37
just like cut the film by accident.
Rich Bennett 36:40
Because
Joseph Webb 36:40
I don't tell them.
Rich Bennett 36:41
Yeah. Right?
Joseph Webb 36:42
I haven't even told the public about that.
Rich Bennett 36:44
So
Joseph Webb 36:44
So nobody knows anybody that's washed it. And I've gotten some text like, there's a mistake. minutes
Rich Bennett 36:48
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 36:49
in. I'm like, no, that's the secret letter. So just kind
Rich Bennett 36:52
10
Joseph Webb 36:52
of fun. Yeah. Kind of fun.
Rich Bennett 36:53
It is fun. Yeah.
Joseph Webb 36:54
You know, and try to get them to watch the whole video because YouTube
Rich Bennett 36:57
likes that. Well, and again, these are things that we learn as we go. Like if, I was watching the guy the other day, um, he said to keep people listening.
Joseph Webb 37:10
Of course,
Rich Bennett 37:10
beginning, mentioned how there'll be something that, uh, How do you say it like oh make sure you listen to the end because we're gonna give
Joseph Webb 37:21
you this?
Rich Bennett 37:22
Whether it's information a link a prize or whatever that don't mention to get it in the middle just to keep people listening. I tried that before with Who's it? I did a couple times where I would give away Like ear buds anything deal with podcasting.
Joseph Webb 37:42
Yeah
Rich Bennett 37:42
And
Joseph Webb 37:42
get it. That's a
Rich Bennett 37:43
let's
Joseph Webb 37:43
good idea.
Rich Bennett 37:43
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean it worked But then it's
Joseph Webb 37:48
Has a life cycle
Rich Bennett 37:49
yeah, it goes and you'll you'll see it when
Joseph Webb 37:51
you Yeah
Rich Bennett 37:53
Numbers everything. It's like a roller coaster up and down December is always worse for some reason and and I think June's always worse for
Joseph Webb 38:00
Yeah
Rich Bennett 38:00
some reason. I guess people on vacation. I don't know, but I You know it's fun Um, what's the name of the podcast and tell people how you came up with it
Joseph Webb 38:12
So the podcast is called connected to the web my last name has two bees
Rich Bennett 38:17
Because
Joseph Webb 38:18
And
Rich Bennett 38:18
I
Joseph Webb 38:18
I always joke very corny And every single episode I do it and I'm because I'm a corny. I'm a dad So I got dad jokes, right? Is that I shake the hand at the end of the gas and I say you're now connected to the web with two bees And
Rich Bennett 38:30
love
Joseph Webb 38:31
that's my coin So
Rich Bennett 38:32
it
Joseph Webb 38:33
that was simply born out of the reality of what I wanted to do.
Rich Bennett 38:37
to
Joseph Webb 38:37
I wanted
Rich Bennett 38:38
Yeah
Joseph Webb 38:38
and the community that I'm building I have connected them to each other and they have benefited financially with their services So my vision is to have a wonderful community
Rich Bennett 38:49
People
Joseph Webb 38:50
where it gets bigger and then eventually have an event where everybody's there kind of thing I have had some feedback and a few of my guests that have businesses and products one wrote a book They have significantly benefited from it so while
Rich Bennett 39:04
go Is
Joseph Webb 39:05
if you
Rich Bennett 39:05
that Michelle
Joseph Webb 39:06
Michelle did benefit
Rich Bennett 39:08
Okay,
Joseph Webb 39:09
who guessed that substantially did is Dorey Dweck who owns designs by Dorey
Rich Bennett 39:14
Okay,
Joseph Webb 39:15
green printing company. She had significant advantages She shared somebody that Kevin Bacon six degrees down and oh yeah things to like the Ravens and not that I have any connection to the Ravens It's just six degrees of Kevin Bacon somebody like oh Yeah, I heard you this and that and then she got a short deal with them, which
Rich Bennett 39:33
great
Joseph Webb 39:33
is Um, and I've given her lots of business Friends of family whatever and then a gentleman Derek Frank who's a Harper Tech alumni He wrote a book about just lacrosse and like he makes an all kind of
Rich Bennett 39:44
a yeah
Joseph Webb 39:45
themes being
Rich Bennett 39:45
Nice
Joseph Webb 39:46
having club sports and then how you know life is just challenging and His book sales substantially benefited
Rich Bennett 39:53
And
Joseph Webb 39:53
from that exposure and you know, that was really awesome because I don't need anything from that other than just right
Rich Bennett 39:58
That
Joseph Webb 39:59
they were glad they were on it you know Yes
Rich Bennett 40:02
it's free marketing. Yes, and it's You going back to the radio ads and television ads.
Joseph Webb 40:09
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 40:09
You're paying for them. You're not paying well. You shouldn't be paying podcast. I know some podcast will charge you, but
Joseph Webb 40:16
Yes,
Rich Bennett 40:17
I know
Joseph Webb 40:17
Not
Rich Bennett 40:17
you
Joseph Webb 40:17
my vibe.
Rich Bennett 40:18
know now
Joseph Webb 40:18
Not my vibe. I respect it. It's not my vibe is to
Rich Bennett 40:23
Help that business to get out there get their name out there even more Um,
Joseph Webb 40:29
I think it's very prevalent because I don't know if you've noticed this, but when you do send an invitation It's very common these days for someone to say I like the idea. How much are going to cost and I'm like
Rich Bennett 40:38
oh, oh,
Joseph Webb 40:39
I'm not selling anything Yeah A coffee, right? I joke. I'm like, well, I was gonna buy you coffee, but if you want to buy me a coffee, I'm okay with that and People are surprised.
Rich Bennett 40:48
I had an author contact me for the other podcast I launched Um Which is strictly for authors And she contacted me and said How much is it what do you mean? Well, how much is it to come on the podcast or nothing? I said You shouldn't pay to be on a podcast.
Joseph Webb 41:06
Yeah. Oh
Rich Bennett 41:07
Because I've had a couple podcasts. I went on and then all of a sudden They want me to pay in order to air the episode. I'm like Well, first of all they ain't going to be lasting I said and second
Joseph Webb 41:21
that's not sustainable I
Rich Bennett 41:22
said, do you think people pay to go on these talk shows? I said no You should not have to pay if you're being invited on or you're asking me to come on. I'm not going to charge you Playing it simple um, but yeah, unfortunately
You're listening to the conversations with Rich Bennett. We'll be right back

Joseph Webb 43:06
You know it's funny they're rich? I feel... is a direct statement of what the purpose of the podcast is, and that's why I don't judge them. That's
Rich Bennett 43:13
That
Joseph Webb 43:13
a monetary concept. You and I share that we want to feature the guest. It's about the guest. You can't say that and then say, I want to feature you it's going to be $9. 95.
Rich Bennett 43:24
And
Joseph Webb 43:24
I mean like, that's not a feature that means you're paying to play. I have the same thing happen when I'm creating relationships in my field of expertise. It is a very common theme in the real or world to have a financial relationship, and I respect it. And the math is there. It makes sense. But when I have that conversation I don't want the value to be the dollar because there's always some guys willing to pay more. But you can't be free. So the only people that say no to my invitation are ones that can't get in their schedule.
Rich Bennett 43:53
Yeah, I mean I've had people say no to come on.
Joseph Webb 43:57
I'm not comfortable.
Rich Bennett 43:58
I've also had I've also I've told this story a couple of times.
Because you know where we're recording is pretty secluded.
Joseph Webb 44:07
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 44:07
So
there have been I think it's been three times and I learned from this. If I have a female guest coming I'll ask one of my cohosts to cohosts. But I'll be standing there by my car waiting three separate times the cars coming halfway up turn around the left. So I called my guest. It's like, was that you? Well yeah. Well why didn't you up. There were some homeless guys.
Joseph Webb 44:34
Oh my god. You don't look homeless.
Rich Bennett 44:36
Well, I had the full beer from when I play
Joseph Webb 44:38
clothes.
Rich Bennett 44:38
sand and
Joseph Webb 44:38
Uh,
Rich Bennett 44:39
yeah, it's like
Joseph Webb 44:40
we
Rich Bennett 44:40
no, that
Joseph Webb 44:40
were in season
Rich Bennett 44:41
and
they never came back.
Joseph Webb 44:45
like
Rich Bennett 44:45
It's
Joseph Webb 44:45
well, I
Rich Bennett 44:45
like
Joseph Webb 44:45
didn't
Rich Bennett 44:45
you're
Joseph Webb 44:45
see a homeless guy, but I was sure.
Foot in mow.
Rich Bennett 44:51
Oh yeah. It's
Joseph Webb 44:52
funny story just like that. You're gonna laugh your butt off. So physically in my basement is my bar.
Rich Bennett 44:59
Right.
Joseph Webb 45:00
Like most home bars. And it's not that fancy. It's I think it's beautiful, but it's not like crazy, right.
Rich Bennett 45:05
It's
Joseph Webb 45:05
It's
Rich Bennett 45:05
a good it's a great backdrop too.
Joseph Webb 45:07
thank you.
Rich Bennett 45:07
I love it.
Joseph Webb 45:09
Flag's got to be there. My wife said side story. I do not want a sports theme bar. Th not
Rich Bennett 45:14
vibe.
Joseph Webb 45:14
my
Rich Bennett 45:14
Right.
Joseph Webb 45:15
And she's from Ohio. And I said, okay, I respect that.
Rich Bennett 45:17
We're
Joseph Webb 45:18
gonna go Americana. And she's like, I'm all in on that.
Rich Bennett 45:20
Okay.
Joseph Webb 45:20
th. Anyway,
Rich Bennett 45:21
For
Joseph Webb 45:21
so I got all excited. You know, a couple episodes in. I start talking about it all the time.
Rich Bennett 45:26
And then
Joseph Webb 45:28
was it was a female that was laughing with me. And she said, wait a minute, you you you you record these at your house. Right. I'm like, yeah, she like, it's in your basement. Right. I'm like, yeah, right. Right. And and she's like, and it's a bar. I'm like, yeah, yeah. And she's like, so how do you invite a female? And I'm like,
Rich Bennett 45:46
it
Joseph Webb 45:46
I begin to say this and I'm like, oh, it's okay. I don't have a button. I'm like, oh shit.
Rich Bennett 45:52
But
Joseph Webb 45:52
that moment the light went off. And I'm like, you just said, hey, come shoot some video in my basement bar.
Rich Bennett 46:01
I've
Joseph Webb 46:01
that my
Rich Bennett 46:01
never
Joseph Webb 46:02
house.
Rich Bennett 46:02
felt
Joseph Webb 46:02
And I'm like,
Rich Bennett 46:03
that
Joseph Webb 46:03
that is scary.
Rich Bennett 46:06
I
Joseph Webb 46:07
immediately change change my vibe. And I was like, bring a husband, bring somebody else. You can have a friend, you know, some of the businesses have a media person, right. But I immediately say now, when they're excited about, I was like, we meet coffee, right. And I say, look, you can come by. I'll make sure my
Rich Bennett 46:24
there.
Joseph Webb 46:24
wife's But it is in my basement bar and they're laughing.
Rich Bennett 46:28
Like,
Joseph Webb 46:29
I'll give you my home address. You can drive by without telling me, right? Well, you can imagine that light bulb went off. And I just immediately got red face.
Rich Bennett 46:35
Oh, I bet. Yes.
Joseph Webb 46:36
I'd already talked to females about it. Not even in my pure innocent night. And I'm like, Oh my gosh.
Rich Bennett 46:42
Cause
Joseph Webb 46:43
I
Rich Bennett 46:43
just
Joseph Webb 46:44
women to my basement to film. I'm like, this is so embarrassing. So obviously going forward, I much, I evolved that
Rich Bennett 46:52
presentation.
Joseph Webb 46:53
And now it's not an issue, but you know, and I never had an an awkward moment because the first couple of guests really didn't come up.
Rich Bennett 47:00
Right.
Joseph Webb 47:01
I knew them, I knew them personally. But yeah, so the people that I don't know, I go over and above to be like, hey, you know, so I've had a couple, you know, foundations have been two ladies, you know, which I it's a lot of fun with with feeding out each other. But yeah. So
Rich Bennett 47:16
it
Joseph Webb 47:16
to
Rich Bennett 47:16
can
Joseph Webb 47:17
this day,
Rich Bennett 47:17
be scary too.
Joseph Webb 47:18
They really can be, it
Rich Bennett 47:19
Because
Joseph Webb 47:20
can be.
Rich Bennett 47:21
depends on who it is, because I've had a couple on a day tour me,
Joseph Webb 47:26
really,
Rich Bennett 47:26
especially authors, if they write,
whatever.
Joseph Webb 47:32
Oh,
Rich Bennett 47:33
depending on the type of romance
Joseph Webb 47:34
is sensitive, things.
Rich Bennett 47:36
Yeah. And like a couple of my
Joseph Webb 47:37
co-mockers will
Rich Bennett 47:39
purposely do everything
Joseph Webb 47:40
can
Rich Bennett 47:40
they to try to
Joseph Webb 47:41
embarrass.
Rich Bennett 47:45
And
I thought, I don't know, oh, no, Christy, well, she's a local author.
Joseph Webb 47:51
Okay, I know.
Rich Bennett 47:52
Okay. So she's a one that told me there's a chili pepper scale for.
Joseph Webb 47:57
Spice for spice.
Rich Bennett 47:59
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 47:59
Yeah, they call
Rich Bennett 48:00
Hers are three
Joseph Webb 48:00
it spice. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 48:00
chili peppers.
Joseph Webb 48:01
Oh,
Rich Bennett 48:02
The five.
Joseph Webb 48:02
that is significant. Three
Rich Bennett 48:03
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 48:03
is significant.
Rich Bennett 48:05
And then so I had her, it was same from the book fair bill air. I can't remember what is one or two other guests, but the one guest, because we were talking that. She goes, no, I write erotic. I'm like, I want a wife.
Joseph Webb 48:23
That word just
Rich Bennett 48:24
Yeah. What is, yeah. I said, what is a rush? Goose, well, it's, I forget what she said exactly, but it's like there are no chili peppers. I said, you mean like pen house form
Joseph Webb 48:32
sounds. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 48:33
stuff.
Joseph Webb 48:33
Yeah, books. Yeah, text only.
Rich Bennett 48:35
Yeah. I was like,
Joseph Webb 48:38
okay.
Rich Bennett 48:39
okay.
Joseph Webb 48:39
Oh,
Rich Bennett 48:40
Oh, yeah. Oh, some
Joseph Webb 48:41
voice crack.
Rich Bennett 48:42
Yeah, some of the ones I have on, again. they're opening up about things.
Joseph Webb 48:49
They're, yeah,
Rich Bennett 48:50
Yeah. And I'm learning.
Joseph Webb 48:52
contextually, it's a great conversation.
Rich Bennett 48:54
Oh,
Joseph Webb 48:54
It's
Rich Bennett 48:54
yeah,
Joseph Webb 48:54
just awkward turtles,
Rich Bennett 48:55
it's
Joseph Webb 48:55
right?
Rich Bennett 48:58
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 48:58
I have to experience
Rich Bennett 48:59
very awkward
Joseph Webb 48:59
reading a book that I did not know was high on the pepper scale.
Rich Bennett 49:03
Okay.
Joseph Webb 49:03
And, and my friend, it was a lady friend that that offered to me the book, because she knows the type of reading that I do,
Rich Bennett 49:08
right?
Joseph Webb 49:08
And she's like, this is great series, right? And it's a very, very popular series. And I'm like, I've heard that. Look, let's do it, y know?
Rich Bennett 49:14
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 49:14
Very fast. I love to read. And I called her and I'm like, you, you didn't warn me about this. Like,
Rich Bennett 49:21
local author,
Joseph Webb 49:22
you know, and I'll help fill in the gaps for your audience. Like, in a non-narotico with spicy scenes, it's eight pages of physically descriptive intimacy that they could have gotten in with And I would have you know, like if you heard four paragraphs,
Rich Bennett 49:38
four paragraphs.
Joseph Webb 49:39
you know, I would have gotten the
Rich Bennett 49:40
but
Joseph Webb 49:40
point, eight pages. And I'm like, oh my God. And I'm crazy.
Rich Bennett 49:45
Oh, God.
Joseph Webb 49:46
I get an image. I just one of those people. And I'm like, oh my God. Like then nothing is to the imagination. It fills in all the nooks and crannies, the setting, the furniture, and the room. You know what's happening. Where it's happening? Who what's happening with? How many times it's happening? It is, it is. And if you don't know it and I, I don't get
Rich Bennett 50:05
easily
Joseph Webb 50:05
embarrassed
Rich Bennett 50:06
to
Joseph Webb 50:06
embarrass people. I
Rich Bennett 50:07
me
Joseph Webb 50:07
was
Rich Bennett 50:08
too.
Joseph Webb 50:08
It's an awkward thing to reading by yourself and get blood red and go and you're like, you're so embarrassed, you flip the page, but that doesn't solve it. You're like, next page, next page, next page. Oh my God, it's still going. And I'm like, where is the non-sexual part of this book? And it didn't really add to the story. So the author totally had fun because it was a great book. And I'm like, that could never be a movie. You know, some books you
Rich Bennett 50:31
Did you
Joseph Webb 50:31
read.
Rich Bennett 50:32
ever on the show?
Joseph Webb 50:32
No, I have not yet, but
Rich Bennett 50:35
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 50:35
I have talked about that and she knows exactly her name is Rachel Crawl. She is the godmother of one of my kids.
Rich Bennett 50:42
Okay.
Joseph Webb 50:43
And she's a super aw, she has her own podcast too. It's super fun lady. She's an agent, but like whatever, my kids call her aunt, but she knew she teed me up and goes, you got to see that did not tell me about the spice level. And from that point forward, and when she makes a recommendation, I'm like, how many jelly peppers
Rich Bennett 50:59
are we. You
Joseph Webb 51:01
don't know, it's crazy.
Rich Bennett 51:03
And your guests are strictly local, right?
Joseph Webb 51:06
Yeah, right now. Yeah, I want because it's video, right? So I've had you know, one of my mentors that I referred to at that at a bank in Dundalk, lady name Susan Keib just a powerful,
Rich Bennett 51:16
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 51:16
powerful, amazing woman lives in Southern Virginia. And so I can't get her up here. So we might do my first remote that way.
Rich Bennett 51:24
Right, right. They're fun.
Joseph Webb 51:26
Yeah, I just don't, I haven't tried it yet, right?
Rich Bennett 51:28
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 51:28
I did do the most recent one. I'm about to put out. I'm trying to get it out this Friday. I actually took it to my equipment to the person. T be a first. So.
Rich Bennett 51:37
Okay.
Joseph Webb 51:49
I made when I heard I'm like, I gotta talk to these guys. So I put the equipment inside of their bar and we did it was super fun. So I am venturing out and I will eventually but right now everybody is in the bubble.
Rich Bennett 52:02
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 52:02
Yeah. If Harper County and Bel airs the bullseye, it's inside that, you know, a couple layers. I'm sure God willing if I can get as many as you have. I'm gonna have to go out of the out of town a little bit. But I want to stay local because the people. I want the community to benefit from the community.
Rich Bennett 52:16
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 52:17
Yeah. For right now,
Rich Bennett 52:18
And I, that was my goal
Joseph Webb 52:20
yeah.
Rich Bennett 52:21
originally, just stay local and then Christina Brazlins wanted to suggest that I changed the name and go worldwide, which I did. And, but it would
Joseph Webb 52:31
be regret that decision at all.
Rich Bennett 52:32
Not at all. Okay.
Joseph Webb 52:33
Okay.
Rich Bennett 52:34
Not at all because it's built my network. I've learned so much from it. Um, and the thing is, people that have heard my podcast and not just other states, but other countries when they contact you and thank you. Because of a guess you had on
Joseph Webb 52:54
that was rubber to their
Rich Bennett 52:54
that
Joseph Webb 52:54
life.
Rich Bennett 52:54
Yeah. Yeah. That is
Joseph Webb 52:57
what experience.
Rich Bennett 52:57
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Or even somebody calling you from California. That moved here and ended up using
Joseph Webb 53:05
one of your sponsors
Rich Bennett 53:06
because they heard me talk about them.
Joseph Webb 53:08
Oh, that's great.
Rich Bennett 53:09
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 53:09
That's
Rich Bennett 53:10
Yeah. Um, but no. I and I still well like we are today. I still like to record locally
Joseph Webb 53:16
yeah.
Rich Bennett 53:16
with people local. I'll go on
Joseph Webb 53:18
as a preference. Right.
Rich Bennett 53:19
Yeah. And I've done a couple of live recordings. We got another one coming up in August. I guess I had on before. It's me saying, Hey, how about I want to do a thing at MacGregor's. Would you mind setting up and talking to me and other people. I'm,
Joseph Webb 53:36
yeah.
Rich Bennett 53:37
For you. Yeah. I'll do it. say, and that's a hit and miss.
Joseph Webb 53:41
Sure.
Rich Bennett 53:41
I'm
Joseph Webb 53:42
I'll
Rich Bennett 53:42
not broadcast in live.
Joseph Webb 53:43
Yes.
Rich Bennett 53:44
I'll never do that. I learned my lesson from that. But recording live is fun. But with yours. I have to ask you this. Cause the bar.
Joseph Webb 53:54
I'm sitting down.
Rich Bennett 53:55
Yeah. What's what's what's to stocked with?
Joseph Webb 53:58
Um, so a little bit of everything. It's got some little things on top to put wine bottles in my wife and I like to drink wine.
Rich Bennett 54:03
I was just say, what's your favorite thing to drink? That should have been the easiest
Joseph Webb 54:06
yeah.
Rich Bennett 54:06
question.
Joseph Webb 54:07
So, but ironically, I am ironically wrong. We're to use wine is not my favorite. I like it with meals.
Rich Bennett 54:15
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 54:15
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 54:15
but
Joseph Webb 54:15
But I'm a bourbon drinker.
Rich Bennett 54:17
Joe,
Joe, Joe Joe, Joe, Joe. All right. So so I know when I come to your house, I got to bring you a bottle of bourbon. I
Joseph Webb 54:26
would not turn down.
Rich Bennett 54:28
What's your favorite bourbon?
Joseph Webb 54:30
See, that's
Rich Bennett 54:30
that's. It's it.
Joseph Webb 54:31
you.
Rich Bennett 54:32
It. It is
Joseph Webb 54:32
I don't have a. I don't have a
Rich Bennett 54:33
one
Joseph Webb 54:33
favorite
Rich Bennett 54:33
of favorite.
Joseph Webb 54:35
you
Rich Bennett 54:35
Yes,
Joseph Webb 54:35
know, what I tell people, if you're going to give a bourbon, you should be proud of that bourbon. Yes. And, and for me, that one is either Jefferson's reserve or four roses, those are
Rich Bennett 54:46
all
Joseph Webb 54:46
the
Rich Bennett 54:46
that.
Joseph Webb 54:47
Yes. Yes. That's what I would gift because I enjoy it so much. Unless I knew somebody had a favorite, but
Rich Bennett 54:54
it's,
Joseph Webb 54:55
people asking, what's your favorite? I'm like, D all the above. I just love bourbon. And
Rich Bennett 54:59
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 54:59
I can, I've drank enough now that that came out wrong. I have enjoyed different, you know, flavors to.
Rich Bennett 55:06
Enjoy
Joseph Webb 55:07
the different flame. I can start to sense,my palate is to sensitize to the shock of bourbon.
Rich Bennett 55:11
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 55:12
So, but for me, those two are the flavors that I really like. But I'll enjoy any bourbon. And what I like about it, you know, as a, you know, middle age man is that I don't have to drink to get drunk with bourbon.
Rich Bennett 55:23
Because
Joseph Webb 55:24
I can
Rich Bennett 55:24
it takes
Joseph Webb 55:24
enjoy it.
Rich Bennett 55:25
long drink
Joseph Webb 55:26
It does. It does. And I don't always have ice. So, I'm the single two fingers for me is real good because
Rich Bennett 55:32
and the
Joseph Webb 55:32
I sip
Rich Bennett 55:32
Glenn
Joseph Webb 55:33
it.
Rich Bennett 55:33
Karen less.
Joseph Webb 55:33
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Although I'm not fancy. I'll drink it out of a free and wine glass. I don't even care.
Rich Bennett 55:38
Well, but it's still got
Joseph Webb 55:39
that. It has
Rich Bennett 55:39
that shit. Just the bigger
Joseph Webb 55:41
it breathes.
Rich Bennett 55:41
Pops. So you're. Yeah. Oh,
Joseph Webb 55:43
But
Rich Bennett 55:43
yeah.
Joseph Webb 55:44
yeah. So I and I often in the last couple of years, I found myself porn one or two. I don't drink to distress, but it does help just to have
Rich Bennett 55:52
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 55:52
a quick sip, help get my thoughts ready. And that's kind of where I'm assured I just I I enjoy partying up. And if you know if we're going out somewhere, I'll probably buy a 30 pack with my buddies.
Rich Bennett 56:03
Yep.
Joseph Webb 56:05
We really want to enjoy the experience,
Rich Bennett 56:07
Okay, Bourbon's Bourbon's
Joseph Webb 56:07
Bourbon's
Rich Bennett 56:08
Bourbon's Bourbon's Bourbon's Bourbon's Bourbon's Bourbon's Bourbon's yeah. Alright, good. Now, now
Joseph Webb 56:10
Bourbon's
Rich Bennett 56:10
I know
Joseph Webb 56:10
Bourbon's
Rich Bennett 56:10
what to, so you know Greg DeWart, right?
Joseph Webb 56:13
Bourbon's Bourbon's
Rich Bennett 56:13
Yes.
Joseph Webb 56:13
yeah. Yes.
Rich Bennett 56:13
Okay, so Greg uh, came on and we were recording about our, the about the four fathers for it. Explain series we were
Joseph Webb 56:24
Okay.
Rich Bennett 56:24
doing. So is after,
Joseph Webb 56:26
I'm excited to watch that, I mean to listen to that by the way I'm,
Rich Bennett 56:28
oh, that's
Joseph Webb 56:29
I
Rich Bennett 56:29
already
Joseph Webb 56:29
have not yet, yeah,
Rich Bennett 56:30
It's,
Joseph Webb 56:30
but I, I'm
Rich Bennett 56:30
yeah,
Joseph Webb 56:30
excited for it.
Rich Bennett 56:31
so I was like, all right, great. I'll take care of you. So my neighbor had, because I was watching his cat, he brought, he bought me a bottle of Basil Hayden's subtle smoke.
Joseph Webb 56:41
Okay,
Rich Bennett 56:41
I never had Basil Hayden's.
Joseph Webb 56:42
Okay. They got a couple different ones.
Rich Bennett 56:44
Yeah. So I brought in and brought it in to Glen Cairn Glasses and poured it. Yeah, we had a good old time.
Joseph Webb 56:51
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 56:51
Yeah. Yeah. With that and it is smooth. Yeah.
Joseph Webb 56:54
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 56:54
Very smooth. Although I do like the Basil Hayden toast better.
Joseph Webb 56:58
So I just went to an event with this cigar company at um, Black Forest tap house.
Rich Bennett 57:03
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Joseph Webb 57:04
And they had a little event there in Basil Hayden with sponsoring it and they have two more flavors that they were just featuring. Okay.
Rich Bennett 57:09
Okay.
Joseph Webb 57:09
I can't recall them off hand, but they were pretty powerful. They were a lot different. One was a rye, which I thought
Rich Bennett 57:14
Okay. Okay.
Joseph Webb 57:14
was really good. And then the other one had something maybe honey, maybe that's kind of the trend now is to add a little infused flavor into them. Um, but I
Rich Bennett 57:22
you. O, you mean
Joseph Webb 57:23
write
Rich Bennett 57:23
what there they add it?
Joseph Webb 57:25
No, no, they
Rich Bennett 57:25
can't add it at the distillery.
Joseph Webb 57:27
No,
Rich Bennett 57:27
it's
Joseph Webb 57:28
no,
Rich Bennett 57:28
bourbon.
Joseph Webb 57:28
no,
Rich Bennett 57:28
Then
Joseph Webb 57:28
then it
Rich Bennett 57:28
maybe
Joseph Webb 57:28
maybe
Rich Bennett 57:29
it wasn't
Joseph Webb 57:29
honey. No, and they were being honest that they're, that they're trying different product, right?
Rich Bennett 57:33
Okay.
Joseph Webb 57:33
Something different. They probably wasn't honey. Um,
Rich Bennett 57:37
it could have been Basil
Joseph Webb 57:38
the
Rich Bennett 57:38
Hayden
Joseph Webb 57:38
rye definitely was good. That
Rich Bennett 57:40
was, yeah.
Joseph Webb 57:40
First rye that I think they
Rich Bennett 57:41
got that nice peppery
Joseph Webb 57:42
It's
Rich Bennett 57:42
taste.
Joseph Webb 57:42
the peppery. Yeah, yeah. And if you don't like that kind of thing, you're not gonna like it, but I do.
Rich Bennett 57:47
I like, I don't mind it.
Joseph Webb 57:48
It was a three spicy pepper drink. Now
Rich Bennett 57:55
We, we. Oh, god. We did another recording up here one time. Um, you know, Joe Elr, right?
Joseph Webb 58:02
I mean.
Rich Bennett 58:03
Star Hill construction.
Joseph Webb 58:04
Oh, Tar Hill. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 58:04
Yeah. All
Joseph Webb 58:05
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 58:05
right.
Joseph Webb 58:05
I mean, obviously you live
Rich Bennett 58:06
in. So Jo Keeble of the idea. Yeah. John Carl Yeah, I'm sorry. But I have to joke of the idea. Let's do a podcast recording on live in a fulfilled life around
Joseph Webb 58:16
a day.
Rich Bennett 58:17
Um, perfect. So it was Joe. Um, my neighbour, Everton Travers, my son and my wife's cousin who actually came up from Mississippi.
Joseph Webb 58:28
Wow.
Rich Bennett 58:28
So we had to postpone it till the afternoon because he wanted to be on it, Tony Mons. And I said, all right, guys, I'll take care of you. I made them all old fashions.
Joseph Webb 58:37
Oh,
Rich Bennett 58:37
with
Joseph Webb 58:37
it's not
Rich Bennett 58:38
Buffalo trace. No,
Joseph Webb 58:39
okay.
Rich Bennett 58:39
I
Joseph Webb 58:39
I
Rich Bennett 58:40
was
Joseph Webb 58:40
was gonna
Rich Bennett 58:40
going
Joseph Webb 58:40
smoke
Rich Bennett 58:41
to smoke on me. Oh, I off.
Joseph Webb 58:42
Okay. Sorry.
Rich Bennett 58:42
I was going to smoke
Joseph Webb 58:43
the
Rich Bennett 58:43
on me here by
Joseph Webb 58:44
side. I'm excited.
Rich Bennett 58:44
And then I said, just regular old fashions,
Joseph Webb 58:47
Buffalo traces.
Rich Bennett 58:48
two inch cube and all that. Um, yet, I found the higher the proof is better for an old fashion,
Joseph Webb 58:55
the way it blends with the other things.
Rich Bennett 58:57
Yeah. And it's deluding after a while just
Joseph Webb 59:00
use a stick in an orange.
Rich Bennett 59:02
Okay. You just now, just I think I did the I had candy d'oranges.
Joseph Webb 59:04
Okay.
Rich Bennett 59:04
Okay. I put it in there. So we ended up recording. When I went to edit the episode, usually one hour episode will take me an hour to edit because I'm listening
Joseph Webb 59:14
to the same thing from me one to one. Yep.
Rich Bennett 59:15
Took me eight hours.
Joseph Webb 59:18
You kept going backwards and back and back to
Rich Bennett 59:20
one. Well, somebody after two old fashions and then we finally started recording turned their microphone off by mistake.
Joseph Webb 59:30
You're kidding me.
Rich Bennett 59:31
Turn
Joseph Webb 59:32
it off by a button or
Rich Bennett 59:33
something. The other, yeah, some of my other microphones have the on all switch. And so he was between me and Everson. So I had to keep editing and pulling his voice. Yeah, Joe, it was you. And but I was like,
Joseph Webb 59:50
someone, Joe,
Rich Bennett 59:51
still worth it. It was still worth it. But not when it comes to smoke, we so at my house a lot of times once a month, we'll get together and just do bourbon. So you should sit in the driveway drink bourbon.
Joseph Webb 1:00:03
Oh,
Rich Bennett 1:00:03
I
Joseph Webb 1:00:03
it's
Rich Bennett 1:00:04
love making. Oh, this is when the mixologist comes out.
Joseph Webb 1:00:07
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:00:08
love make it different old fashions.
Joseph Webb 1:00:10
Yep.
Rich Bennett 1:00:11
So, it's like, okay, one of my guests or one of my coach, Tammy Winger, who told me she went to a lavender festival. And she told me about lavender, simple syrup. I was like, you didn't bring me any scoos. No, but I can get it. I said, okay, well, I ordered so many of these on Amazon. So I mean, and then I got tried lavender and made smoked lavender old fashions.
Joseph Webb 1:00:35
Oh, wow.
Rich Bennett 1:00:36
To this day, that has been the guy's favorite old-fashioned.
Joseph Webb 1:00:40
Oh,
Rich Bennett 1:00:40
Even my brother-in-law who does not like bourbon
Joseph Webb 1:00:44
enjoyed.
Rich Bennett 1:00:45
Oh, yeah, I think he had two
Joseph Webb 1:00:46
them.
Rich Bennett 1:00:46
of
Joseph Webb 1:00:47
Does the lavender sweeten it up or kinda round out the taste, okay?
Rich Bennett 1:00:50
Well,
Joseph Webb 1:00:51
the simple syrup, obviously.
Rich Bennett 1:00:52
Yeah. Yeah. But one of the things
Joseph Webb 1:00:53
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:00:53
I want to try it, I want to try it with four roses small batch. 'Cause, to me, the four roses, you get that floral turnr. People may think I'm crazy, but you do.
Joseph Webb 1:01:02
Now, I would say that. Yeah, the other thing with bourbon is, if you drink it slow enough and have a small enough dose, you do get the flavor. If you kick it back and pull your glass back, it's too much of a shock. If you let your taste buds actually enjoy it, and that's when you can get some of those florals out of four roses.
Rich Bennett 1:01:19
One of goals is, because I actually did a podcast for America explaining on the history of bourbon.
Joseph Webb 1:01:25
Oh,
Rich Bennett 1:01:26
solo podcast. But, I want to, if I say the name, you might know it, I want to get Fred Minick on. Fred Minick is like, when he comes to bourbon, he's written, I forget, how many books,
Joseph Webb 1:01:39
Okay.
Rich Bennett 1:01:40
former military, but he is like, when it comes to bourbon
Joseph Webb 1:01:47
stewards, the
Rich Bennett 1:01:47
bourbon
Joseph Webb 1:01:48
stewards of
Rich Bennett 1:01:48
steward of bourbon
Joseph Webb 1:01:49
standard of stewards.
Rich Bennett 1:01:50
Oh yeah. Yeah. Nose
Joseph Webb 1:01:52
shit.
Rich Bennett 1:01:52
is
Joseph Webb 1:01:53
That's cool.
Rich Bennett 1:01:54
He collects, but he also knows, like, how some of your less expensive bourbons will blow away your $1, 200 bourbon.
Joseph Webb 1:02:03
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:02:04
Taste wise. And also,
Joseph Webb 1:02:06
well, I got a cool experience for you and your friends to try that. And I did not create this buddy mind.
Rich Bennett 1:02:09
Okay.
Joseph Webb 1:02:10
some property in West Virginia, like remote three acres, ropped on his hill, whatever, and they called it whiskey in the woods. So what we do is every, every guy would bring a bottle whiskey. And we did coordinate. So we did
Rich Bennett 1:02:22
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:02:22
double up.
Rich Bennett 1:02:22
Right.
Joseph Webb 1:02:23
And we made our own whiskey tasting. And obviously, your top four or five names were all gone right away. And you had to
Rich Bennett 1:02:29
Got
Joseph Webb 1:02:29
get a little creative. And at this point, because I came in late to the party, I was, you know, trying to, I didn't know what to how to get.
Rich Bennett 1:02:36
Right. And
Joseph Webb 1:02:36
I
Rich Bennett 1:02:36
I
Joseph Webb 1:02:36
got this $10 bottle of bourbon called American and had a flag going. I mean, you know, sold me with the flag on it, right? I'm good there, but it was fantastic. the cool thing is that you, we actually give out cards, like have your bodies and you, you're pre-printing them like,
Rich Bennett 1:02:50
got there.
Joseph Webb 1:02:51
what do you taste?
Rich Bennett 1:02:52
Right?
Joseph Webb 1:02:52
What? You know, and what's, you know, what do you taste right away?
Rich Bennett 1:02:55
Mm-hmm.
Joseph Webb 1:02:55
What do you, what's the aftertaste? And then, you know, would you buy it again, kind of thing? And we all kind of try two things of having my life that I just love. And I tell everybody, the first one is that of them, because if you actually clean the palate and taste different bourbons in a row, right away, you can taste the difference.
Rich Bennett 1:03:11
Yes.
Joseph Webb 1:03:11
It's a cool experience that in oysters. I went to oyster fast. And at first time, I ever, this is years ago down in Baltimore.
Rich Bennett 1:03:18
Oh,
Joseph Webb 1:03:18
First time I ever tasted seven or eight different flavors at the right moment. I'm like, oh, this is amazing. Because now I know what I like.
Rich Bennett 1:03:27
So you couldn't put cocktail sauce or anything
Joseph Webb 1:03:28
it.
Rich Bennett 1:03:28
on
Joseph Webb 1:03:28
No, I wanted to know
Rich Bennett 1:03:29
is.
Joseph Webb 1:03:29
what the the
Rich Bennett 1:03:30
Yes.
Joseph Webb 1:03:30
oyster
Rich Bennett 1:03:31
Yes. Thank you.
Joseph Webb 1:03:32
And if you become in a room where, you find in a room where you're tasting bread for the first time or just kind of curious and want to actually give it a good shot, you have to compare to each other.
Rich Bennett 1:03:43
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:03:43
Yeah. Wine, cigar, cigarettes. What? Well, my cigarette. That's not healthy. But whatever, right? Food, cake.
Rich Bennett 1:03:48
Yeah. Whatever. If
Joseph Webb 1:03:50
you don't have another one to compare it to, you know, it's not the full experience. So those two things, big moments in my life, I love.
Rich Bennett 1:03:57
I was one those people. Every time I ate raw oysters, I would always put the cocktail
Joseph Webb 1:04:03
it.
Rich Bennett 1:04:03
sauce on
Joseph Webb 1:04:03
Yeah. I liked that too. But yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:04:05
Then I had Matt Scales came on and he brought a couple of different people. We did it virtually.
Joseph Webb 1:04:12
different
Rich Bennett 1:04:12
A couple of
Joseph Webb 1:04:12
people. Okay. Oh, I'd love to have an oyster farm rolling.
Rich Bennett 1:04:16
Oh, talking about the oysters and the guys that they said when you eat oysters, number one, don't add anything to it. Slurping down the shell and chew it up. So you get the full flavor.
Joseph Webb 1:04:30
Somebody told me that at that festival. I'd never heard that.
Rich Bennett 1:04:32
What is it? The further up the bay, the sweeter they are, the further down the bay, I guess when it gets closer towards the ocean, it's usually saltier. I think that was the way.
Joseph Webb 1:04:44
Well, that makes sense
Rich Bennett 1:04:45
it's less
Joseph Webb 1:04:45
because
Rich Bennett 1:04:45
yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:04:46
it's more brackish than
Rich Bennett 1:04:47
But
Joseph Webb 1:04:47
not.
Rich Bennett 1:04:47
oh my
Joseph Webb 1:04:47
god. Really? Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:04:49
Oh, I learned to love oysters. It's, it's funny. Yeah. We, just certain things that you never wanted, you would never even dream of trying. But when you try it, How much better it is,
Joseph Webb 1:05:04
yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:05:04
like with bourbon beer. When the last station I worked at the general manager. He's, he was a beer connoisseur. He's the one who taught me about beer.
Joseph Webb 1:05:13
Okay.
Rich Bennett 1:05:13
Okay. Took us to the bar and I ordered, I think, a obeys or coarsely, I can't remember in bartenders.
Joseph Webb 1:05:20
He's like real,
Rich Bennett 1:05:21
yeah. Barton said you want to glass us a, now I'm a beer guy and the gentleman is like no, no, no, no, he don't want that.
Joseph Webb 1:05:27
You open that door?
Rich Bennett 1:05:28
Yeah. He
Joseph Webb 1:05:30
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:05:30
turned me on to the different craft beers, IPAs and all that. Taught me have the different glasses will open up
Joseph Webb 1:05:37
beer.
Rich Bennett 1:05:37
the
Joseph Webb 1:05:38
Yeah, it's a whole other world.
Rich Bennett 1:05:39
Oh my
Joseph Webb 1:05:39
is
Rich Bennett 1:05:40
god,
Joseph Webb 1:05:40
a little overwhelming too actually because with
Rich Bennett 1:05:41
it
Joseph Webb 1:05:41
beer there's ten times in bourbon.
Rich Bennett 1:05:43
Oh yeah, yeah. But my, my, my love is still, is still bourbon. And Mike Gondaco and I worked with him at the Bay. He's the one who got me.
Joseph Webb 1:05:52
Y. bourbon,
Rich Bennett 1:05:53
bourbon. And Mafe, you know, talking about the bourbon taste of how you were doing, uhm, there's a talk about this friend-minute guy, and you could pull it up on YouTube. There's several videos of blind tastings. And
Joseph Webb 1:06:09
that's awesome. Oh yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:06:12
The $1, 200 bottle. Was that the 12 year reserve, I
Joseph Webb 1:06:15
think? I think $1, 220.
Rich Bennett 1:06:16
Yeah, it definitely wasn't the 20. I think it was the 12 year reserve which goes for buccue bucks.
Joseph Webb 1:06:21
Yep.
Rich Bennett 1:06:22
How this $2, 5 dollar bottle of bourbon kept beating it and blind
Joseph Webb 1:06:28
tasting. And that's something
Rich Bennett 1:06:29
It was while turkey 101. Really?
Joseph Webb 1:06:31
really.
Rich Bennett 1:06:31
Yes.
Joseph Webb 1:06:32
I don't know if I've ever had while turkey 101.
Rich Bennett 1:06:34
We, so the last time we were sitting together in the driveway, uhm, I brought out, I think I brought out the basal heat and toast, and then my neighbor brought over, no, his father's day weekend.
Joseph Webb 1:06:47
Oh, just this past weekend?
Rich Bennett 1:06:48
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:06:49
Okay. Okay. So how do
Rich Bennett 1:06:49
So
Joseph Webb 1:06:49
I play?
Rich Bennett 1:06:50
we're sitting in the backyard. It was me, my son, my brother, and all of them. My neighbor came over. So I told my brother and I said, dude, you gotta try this basal heat and toast. Put in the glass. He tried it, he's like, man, that's good. then my neighbor came over and he got the charred,
Joseph Webb 1:07:04
Well
Rich Bennett 1:07:05
uh, rocks, glass and for father's day. So he brought them over.
Joseph Webb 1:07:09
you
Rich Bennett 1:07:09
So
Joseph Webb 1:07:09
want
Rich Bennett 1:07:09
we,
Joseph Webb 1:07:09
to break it in?
Rich Bennett 1:07:10
He brought over the wall turkey 101. And if the first time I already knew of that, yeah, I love
Joseph Webb 1:07:16
what you teed up then. Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:07:18
my son never
Joseph Webb 1:07:18
tried. Okay.
Rich Bennett 1:07:19
And when I explained it to my son in my son, he said, oh, shit. That that that is not a $25 bottle of bourbon, that's a, that's got to be a $60 bottle of bourbon. At least I said, no, Mr. Ted, would you pay for that? Like 25 or 30 boxes
Joseph Webb 1:07:34
while turkey ought to be paying you right now. Bourbon is like, damn, I'm going to try because I've never even had it before. I'm going to go buy one right now.
Rich Bennett 1:07:41
Oh my God. It's
Joseph Webb 1:07:42
because I can't afford. Happy, but I always, you know, I want to
Rich Bennett 1:07:45
that was always my dream,
Joseph Webb 1:07:46
their $30 a shot at a bar. Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:07:48
always wanted to
Joseph Webb 1:07:49
That's
Rich Bennett 1:07:49
try.
Joseph Webb 1:07:49
cream of the crop, And
Rich Bennett 1:07:50
then when I fed, I learned about different bourbon. And then when I became a bourbon steward, it's like, you know what? I'm not, I'm not big on.
Joseph Webb 1:07:59
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:08:01
happy now.
Joseph Webb 1:08:01
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:08:02
yeah, like
Joseph Webb 1:08:02
my brother loves Eagle Ray or which is in that same fan.
Rich Bennett 1:08:05
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:08:05
And you know, he's, he's all what is in that papy just in that, and I'm like, yeah, but if you can't enjoy it, I would, I would be, you know, like, Blantens is, is nice to try some of them. But like, it's like, it's the allort of that for me. It's not even the actual flavor. But then when I'm drinking, I'm like, this freaking drink is $45. Like,
Rich Bennett 1:08:22
yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:08:22
I don't want to, you know what I mean? So I leave them as shell. Those are fun to look at, you know, but I don't know if I, if I had a papy, if I would drink it. And in
Rich Bennett 1:08:29
it's
Joseph Webb 1:08:30
the bourbon world, you need to enjoy it.
Rich Bennett 1:08:32
exact.
Joseph Webb 1:08:33
It's not wine where it sits in a cellar for 150 years.
Rich Bennett 1:08:36
No, and it does not get better. When sits in that pile, it does not get better with age when it sits in the barrel. And that's not always a case either.
Joseph Webb 1:08:44
No, no,
Rich Bennett 1:08:45
it can sit in the barrel for longer and get worse.
Joseph Webb 1:08:46
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:08:47
but how do we get on the subject of bourbon? Oh,
Joseph Webb 1:08:50
I
Rich Bennett 1:08:50
you're,
Joseph Webb 1:08:50
don't know, but I'm,
Rich Bennett 1:08:51
a
Joseph Webb 1:08:51
yeah, oh, because the
Rich Bennett 1:08:52
bar
Joseph Webb 1:08:52
bar you
Rich Bennett 1:08:52
and that's right.
Joseph Webb 1:08:52
what it was stocked with. Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:08:55
Yeah, okay,
Joseph Webb 1:08:55
well, that was 17 year old and he has buddies over in his rooms and the basement. So it's not stocked with anything right now.
Rich Bennett 1:09:00
Okay,
Joseph Webb 1:09:01
underneath in locked because you know, I'm not naive and I was a teenager. And I was rambunctious and I do not believe my son would go there, but I'm not going to be the dad that
Rich Bennett 1:09:10
You
Joseph Webb 1:09:10
says.
Rich Bennett 1:09:10
know what to
Joseph Webb 1:09:10
that
Rich Bennett 1:09:10
find
Joseph Webb 1:09:10
should have known
Rich Bennett 1:09:11
Yeah, you don't want to find
Joseph Webb 1:09:13
I
Rich Bennett 1:09:13
out. Just
Joseph Webb 1:09:13
learned from
Rich Bennett 1:09:13
hide it.
Joseph Webb 1:09:14
mistakes.
Rich Bennett 1:09:14
Hide the key. All right.
Joseph Webb 1:09:15
I know I
Rich Bennett 1:09:16
So
Joseph Webb 1:09:16
gotta bring
Rich Bennett 1:09:16
you a good bottle of bourbon.
Joseph Webb 1:09:20
while Turkey 101 at this
Rich Bennett 1:09:21
Well,
Joseph Webb 1:09:21
point.
Rich Bennett 1:09:23
And that's the thing. Well, these inexperienced, oh, granddad bottled in bond.
Joseph Webb 1:09:28
Yeah, but that's good. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:09:30
Oh, uh, I wish the other one. Evan Williams.
Joseph Webb 1:09:33
Yeah, I was really gonna say Evan Williams. You know, I love eggnog and I've tried 15 different bourbons and whiskey's the only one that I think really brings it out is Evan Williams.
Rich Bennett 1:09:42
In
Joseph Webb 1:09:44
an egg-nog.
Rich Bennett 1:09:44
I never tried that.
Joseph Webb 1:09:45
Yeah, because egg-nog is either what rum or whiskey or bourbon.
Rich Bennett 1:09:48
Right. Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:09:49
And I kept trying it and truckers I grew up loving eggnog and I got older and I could never find it and someone's I think I actually googled it. And it's the first one that popped up was having Williams and I'm like, ah, screw it. And it's affordable. So I'm like, let me just try it. I am obsessed. So now every holiday is when I buy the eggnog I buy having Williams too, because that flavor combination
Rich Bennett 1:10:07
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:10:07
for whatever reason is
Rich Bennett 1:10:08
top.
Joseph Webb 1:10:08
top of
Rich Bennett 1:10:09
Even
Joseph Webb 1:10:09
the
Rich Bennett 1:10:09
by itself it's good.
Joseph Webb 1:10:10
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:10:11
Capino is a Harvard Tart magazine is the one that told me about the having Williams.
Joseph Webb 1:10:15
Hmm.
Rich Bennett 1:10:15
I
Joseph Webb 1:10:15
Sandy
Rich Bennett 1:10:15
wouldn't have ever thought about buying
Joseph Webb 1:10:16
it. Yeah, I wouldn't have either,
Rich Bennett 1:10:17
but she said, that's her favorite. And again, like a $25 bottle of bourbon, there is one whiskey. It's not a bourbon. One whiskey you have to try. I found it online order online. They delivered it. It's called Vaughn pain black, I believe it was.
Joseph Webb 1:10:36
Hmm.
Rich Bennett 1:10:37
and
Joseph Webb 1:10:37
Vaughn
Rich Bennett 1:10:37
nice bottle
Joseph Webb 1:10:38
pain
Rich Bennett 1:10:38
Vaughn pain.
Joseph Webb 1:10:39
Okay.
Rich Bennett 1:10:39
And the pourer on top of the bottle is a gargoyle.
Joseph Webb 1:10:44
Really?
Rich Bennett 1:10:44
when you
Joseph Webb 1:10:44
So
Rich Bennett 1:10:45
pour it out, it comes out red. It' whiskey infused with black current.
Joseph Webb 1:10:50
Well, that's fascinating.
Rich Bennett 1:10:51
Yeah. And black current, it's a berry that was banned from the United States for a while, because apparently it was killing like pine trees or something.
Joseph Webb 1:10:59
Hmm.
Rich Bennett 1:11:00
And I got a bottle of it for this past Halloween. Of course,
Joseph Webb 1:11:06
it's probably cooler
Rich Bennett 1:11:06
Had
Joseph Webb 1:11:07
in hell.
Rich Bennett 1:11:07
to try it
Joseph Webb 1:11:08
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:11:08
first.
Joseph Webb 1:11:08
The gargoyle
Rich Bennett 1:11:09
top. Oh,
Joseph Webb 1:11:09
on
Rich Bennett 1:11:10
my God. Smooth. And again, my brother-in-law who's not a whiskey person.
Joseph Webb 1:11:14
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:11:15
Loved it straight. Loved it in an old fashioned. But oh, yeah. Yeah. Very, very good. Yeah. Definitely
Joseph Webb 1:11:22
Well,
Rich Bennett 1:11:22
have to
Joseph Webb 1:11:22
we might have
Rich Bennett 1:11:23
bring
Joseph Webb 1:11:23
inadvertently stumbled on a really cool way to
Rich Bennett 1:11:25
it in.
Joseph Webb 1:11:25
have both of our communities blend is having a whiskey bourbon event.
Rich Bennett 1:11:30
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:11:38
Yeah. It's a cool idea, you
Rich Bennett 1:11:40
Oh, yeah. And you already have the cigar
Joseph Webb 1:11:43
know?
Rich Bennett 1:11:43
place
Joseph Webb 1:11:43
Mm-hmm.
Rich Bennett 1:11:43
smoke showing cigars.
Joseph Webb 1:11:45
Oh, yeah. The
Rich Bennett 1:11:46
cigars in bourbon.
Joseph Webb 1:11:46
Yep. Which was part of the podcast for those people.
Rich Bennett 1:11:50
Right. It is
Joseph Webb 1:11:51
getting the full flavor out of the cigar, same thing with that. And ironically, Dr. Pepper is also a wonderful to have with cigar. Freeless in there because of the 23 flavors. So it'll pull out whatever cigar you're drinking.
Rich Bennett 1:12:05
Dr.
Joseph Webb 1:12:05
that. I
Rich Bennett 1:12:05
Pepper.
Joseph Webb 1:12:05
never knew that. So you're smoking? Yeah. That was one of the biggest takeaways in that whole episode is freaking Dr. Pepper. Because you can't always, there's a lot of moments you can have a cigar, but not all those moments mean you can have a bourbon. So. Yeah, that's my thing. Never
Rich Bennett 1:12:17
I never
Joseph Webb 1:12:17
knew.
Rich Bennett 1:12:17
knew
Joseph Webb 1:12:17
I was like, what? And I tried it on air. You'll see it when I
Rich Bennett 1:12:21
it.
Joseph Webb 1:12:21
put
Rich Bennett 1:12:21
I know it's good. I know it's good for beer, chicken.
Joseph Webb 1:12:24
Yeah. Yeah. Well,
Rich Bennett 1:12:25
it's not beer, but replaced
Joseph Webb 1:12:26
it. But it's called that. But yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:12:27
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:12:28
Yeah. Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:12:28
And wow. So
Joseph Webb 1:12:30
It's
Rich Bennett 1:12:30
with
Joseph Webb 1:12:30
fun to.
Rich Bennett 1:12:31
the podcast,
Joseph Webb 1:12:33
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:12:33
what's the next big thing for the podcast?
Joseph Webb 1:12:36
Man, I've been thinking and I got a couple ideas that I haven't really narrowed down. I'll kind of share what's with my head. I do want to take it places now that I open the door to being remotely. But I almost have, I feel this sense of obligation in a wonderful way to go back and check in on some of my guests that I've had. Because they had some really
Rich Bennett 1:13:00
fun
Joseph Webb 1:13:00
stories. Yeah. And I haven't like even opened that door yet, but
Rich Bennett 1:13:04
yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:13:05
just want to know how they're doing. There were some amazing people and I kind of went up in that door. I want to do some more solo episodes. I only did one. I only did one. It was a bit of a politically charged one, not in the sense of my content, but
Rich Bennett 1:13:22
I
Joseph Webb 1:13:22
the reason that I put it out. And it, there was some drama with that where someone didn't like it. I actually got my
Rich Bennett 1:13:29
YouTube
Joseph Webb 1:13:29
channel turned off for two weeks because they were
Rich Bennett 1:13:31
it.
Joseph Webb 1:13:31
selling
Rich Bennett 1:13:31
Are you serious?
Joseph Webb 1:13:32
I couldn't believe it. I'm not ridiculous.
Rich Bennett 1:13:34
Which
Joseph Webb 1:13:35
is the one of the troubles with YouTube is that I'm governed by the community, but I won't, you know, I don't want to go to, we've had such an amazingly positive episode, but I was a little shocked, so I will tell you that I love to get some local politicians on,
Rich Bennett 1:13:51
yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:13:51
not for the politics, but to learn about what it takes to run for
Rich Bennett 1:13:56
with
Joseph Webb 1:13:56
office family, you know, and people that lost that, you know, what do you do that? Right. You just go back to work the next day like
Rich Bennett 1:14:03
I like to get them on to learn more about the person.
Joseph Webb 1:14:06
what's what I mean? The part, the family
Rich Bennett 1:14:07
Like
Joseph Webb 1:14:08
man or
Rich Bennett 1:14:08
Panther,
Joseph Webb 1:14:08
a lady?
Rich Bennett 1:14:09
I would love
Joseph Webb 1:14:09
panel.
Rich Bennett 1:14:09
that
Joseph Webb 1:14:09
I want to talk
Rich Bennett 1:14:10
dequeous.
Joseph Webb 1:14:10
about the Yep. Yep.
Rich Bennett 1:14:12
I want, I want to learn about the dequeous.
Joseph Webb 1:14:14
Yeah. What led them to go to
Rich Bennett 1:14:17
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:14:17
service
Rich Bennett 1:14:18
Well,
Joseph Webb 1:14:18
from.
Rich Bennett 1:14:18
that too.
Joseph Webb 1:14:19
You know, I want to know like that moment when it changed, I don't want to get into the actual politics.
Rich Bennett 1:14:25
Careful, careful. They may convince you into running.
Joseph Webb 1:14:29
Come up before rich. Unfortunately in my mortgage business the moment I say a color or a word, I only need 50% of my business and it's my family relies too much on that. And then it's a shame, you know in a world where I just want to be, huh.
Rich Bennett 1:14:47
uh
Joseph Webb 1:14:56
But yeah, so that's one of the things I'd love to do and that'll be a little tough to get somebody, but yeah, I just love cool things. I just released one with Harford Tech had some issues last year. Got a new coach. I coached with that coach prior and rec.
Rich Bennett 1:15:09
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:15:10
So I said, do you want to come on a talk about it? And he was like, let me get it approved. And then so the the president of Harford Tech was like, I love the yada. Let's just see it first, right? And they loved it. So I want to get into the community with the schools. I want to talk to some principles. People that I think are underappreciated. I think would be really good. Everyone might not know the principle of this school where that school, but I'd love to bring them into the community in different
Rich Bennett 1:15:33
that's good.
Joseph Webb 1:15:33
light. So those are some ideas that got floating around. And, but I'm going to close up this season with Smoked these guys
Rich Bennett 1:15:42
smoke
Joseph Webb 1:15:42
cigars
Rich Bennett 1:15:43
showing
Joseph Webb 1:15:43
for give me. Yeah, I have to call them SSD and they don't want to be caught. That says
Now, no, that's true. That's true, which is part of making a company. All the initials going to incriminate me later.
Rich Bennett 1:15:56
Yeah. Okay.
Joseph Webb 1:15:57
But um, so that's my last one of season two and then before I do season three, I'm going to do some revamping, um, some idea I want to go out and get. So and then I'm considering which I know I'm going to regret later is pre recording all the episodes of the next season. And then then I can kind of, you know, let them out.
Rich Bennett 1:16:14
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:16:14
fun. What I've had happened this time, because I do make some clips. Audio social media. um, when it's up happening is life gets in the way. I've got four beautiful children. They're very active in their sports. It's coming to their all in that middle range. So I go like week. Sometimes, you know, almost months without releasing.
Rich Bennett 1:16:31
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:16:31
And nobody's upset about it, but they're like, Hey, would love to see that. You know,
Rich Bennett 1:16:36
I
Joseph Webb 1:16:36
almost want to, you know, record them all. Edit them all and then slow drip out. Those are some of the ideas I've got. So it's kind of what I'm thinking is coming and. Um, and I'm going to put a little more work into the YouTube channel itself.
Rich Bennett 1:16:47
man. I love it, man. It's a great show. Um,
Joseph Webb 1:16:50
Thanks,
Rich Bennett 1:16:51
I can't wait to and hopefully eventually you will take it audio as well.
Joseph Webb 1:16:55
Yeah. Cause
Rich Bennett 1:16:55
I live
Joseph Webb 1:16:56
There's
Rich Bennett 1:16:56
most
Joseph Webb 1:16:56
no reason not to. No,
Rich Bennett 1:16:57
now.
Joseph Webb 1:16:57
I just haven't done it.
Rich Bennett 1:16:58
Most of the time I listen, I'll listen if I'm working down. Oh, less of the play it
Joseph Webb 1:17:05
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:17:06
or whatever. Or play a podcast. Yours I have to watch on YouTube,
Joseph Webb 1:17:11
but
Rich Bennett 1:17:11
especially
Joseph Webb 1:17:11
I think you can
Rich Bennett 1:17:11
when you
Joseph Webb 1:17:12
listen
Rich Bennett 1:17:12
had this
Joseph Webb 1:17:12
right.
Rich Bennett 1:17:12
show on.
Joseph Webb 1:17:13
Yeah, she's a sweet. she's one of the people that opened up
Rich Bennett 1:17:17
Oh,
Joseph Webb 1:17:17
and I knew about some of those sensitive things. We talked about it in the pre interview. Like,
Rich Bennett 1:17:21
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:17:21
Okay, where can I go? And then said you can always edit it out. Right. And she's like, you know what? Keep it all. I'm like, whoa,
Rich Bennett 1:17:28
whoa. Yeah. Oh, yeah. She was awesome. There's, I could hook you up with some guests here.
Joseph Webb 1:17:34
Yeah,
Rich Bennett 1:17:35
There's a lot of county.
Joseph Webb 1:17:36
there is. We just got lucky, man. We live in an area where there's a lot of really awesome stories to be told, right?
Rich Bennett 1:17:40
Oh, yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:17:41
And people to
Rich Bennett 1:17:41
it.
Joseph Webb 1:17:41
tell them about
Rich Bennett 1:17:42
Absolutely. All right. So this is the fun part. Okay. Oh, wow. Okay. Well, actually, before I get to it, is there anything you want to add? Joe put that bottle of bourbon and me.
Joseph Webb 1:17:55
I know. Excuse me. Excuse me. No, I'm just kidding. Um, no, I mean, I, you know, if someone was listening to this podcast and saying, who's this guy? Who's this guy, Joe, you know, again, I, you
Rich Bennett 1:18:05
it's
Joseph Webb 1:18:05
know,
Rich Bennett 1:18:05
not Joe Wheeler. No,
Joseph Webb 1:18:06
no,
Rich Bennett 1:18:07
there's no bourbon.
Joseph Webb 1:18:07
Joe Webb to bees is that you know, take a look at my pages. Take a look at my channel. Take a look at my podcast. I'd love to have feedback in the community. But, you know, if you have anything, if you have any needs for moving, buying refinancing, I'd love to have a conversation with you. Although my occupation is sales. I am not a sales guy. I love giving you the information you need to make a decision.
Rich Bennett 1:18:30
Your relationships.
Joseph Webb 1:18:31
Ever it is. I am. I point in fact, oh, that's really good.
Rich Bennett 1:18:39
Yeah. What's the, what's the website? So
Joseph Webb 1:18:42
the company website israwww. blevenshomeworkage.com. We've got some great pictures on there. We do a lot of work with Ronald McDonald House.
Rich Bennett 1:18:50
Oh,
Joseph Webb 1:18:51
Love those people. Um,
Rich Bennett 1:18:53
wow.
Joseph Webb 1:18:54
because of my partner's son that was a guest there.
Rich Bennett 1:18:56
Okay.
Joseph Webb 1:18:57
Everything went great. That was a couple years ago. But, you know, it's kind of close to our hearts there.
Rich Bennett 1:19:00
Yeah.
Joseph Webb 1:19:01
Um, but I mean that really is the website on YouTube. You can find me at the worldwide web of lending. That's the name of.
Rich Bennett 1:19:08
Two be's in web.
Joseph Webb 1:19:09
Well it's about two bees, worldwide web of lending and then the podcast is connected to the web. Two bees. Yes, what's two bees? Thank you.
Rich Bennett 1:19:17
Alright, I need to pick a number between one and five. I forgot my glue.
Joseph Webb 1:19:21
Oh yeah, I knew this problem was coming. Uhm, 4,
Rich Bennett 1:19:27
4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4. Now pick a number between 61 and 80. Why does everybody always pick 4?
Joseph Webb 1:19:34
Uh, root 66, baby.
Rich Bennett 1:19:37
Oh.
Joseph Webb 1:19:40
Alright,
Rich Bennett 1:19:41
you know what? This is kind of funny because it ties in with your show.
Joseph Webb 1:19:45
Okay.
Rich Bennett 1:19:46
If you could have any super power, but it could
Joseph Webb 1:19:50
kill me. That's the one we picked.
Rich Bennett 1:19:51
Number 66.
Joseph Webb 1:19:52
cool.
Rich Bennett 1:19:54
that is so But it could only be used to help others. What would it be?
Joseph Webb 1:20:01
Hmm,
it's a little bit of the rosary verse here because I asked
Rich Bennett 1:20:05
this,
Joseph Webb 1:20:05
my guest
Rich Bennett 1:20:05
uh huh.
Joseph Webb 1:20:06
There is what a small turn of
Rich Bennett 1:20:09
face.
Joseph Webb 1:20:10
Uhm,
I wish I could show people their own potential. I see so many people that have them posture syndrome. Yeah, with really successful businesses. And we've seen it with our podcasts, right?
Rich Bennett 1:20:26
Right.
Joseph Webb 1:20:26
And they don't feel like they should be there.
Rich Bennett 1:20:28
Uhm,
Joseph Webb 1:20:29
or that they can grow and they get happy. they get content in their complacency, which is their own prerogative. They don't
Rich Bennett 1:20:36
Yeah,
Joseph Webb 1:20:36
have no one has not everybody has to try to be. but I see such
Rich Bennett 1:20:39
Well,
Joseph Webb 1:20:40
power in some individuals. I wish I could show them a magic mirror where it would show them the person that they could be if they stand on certain path, because I think it's unlocked. It can unlock a lot of special things in people. Um, that would that would be one power that I'd love to have that I do not possess.
Rich Bennett 1:20:56
That is awesome.
Joseph Webb 1:20:57
Yes.
Rich Bennett 1:20:58
It's weird how these 100 different questions and it's weird how most of the time, whatever the person picks.
Joseph Webb 1:21:07
Yeah, that was
Rich Bennett 1:21:08
talking about.
Joseph Webb 1:21:08
Freaky and awesome way that you said super power. Anybody listen to your podcasts that has ever sent you a mind. A hundred percent of my that's how I actually close out my shell is I ask
Rich Bennett 1:21:18
the
Joseph Webb 1:21:18
them
Rich Bennett 1:21:18
superpower.
Joseph Webb 1:21:18
That's wild. So cool.
Rich Bennett 1:21:22
It's some of these are hard questions.
Joseph Webb 1:21:23
Yeah.
Rich Bennett 1:21:23
Yeah, I don't I still don't know them all.
Joseph Webb 1:21:25
That's.
Rich Bennett 1:21:26
I've never looked at them all. But when I asked the person, there's sometimes I'm sitting there saying, man, what how would I answer that?
Joseph Webb 1:21:34
Yes,
Rich Bennett 1:21:34
and it's hard. It's hard. That's why I'll leave that pause in there for a lot of
Joseph Webb 1:21:41
them.
Rich Bennett 1:21:41
Except unless it's five minutes, I Joe. Oh, good.
Joseph Webb 1:21:46
was
Rich Bennett 1:21:46
I was
Joseph Webb 1:21:46
using
Rich Bennett 1:21:46
using.
Joseph Webb 1:21:47
it. Cut out
Rich Bennett 1:21:47
Yeah, exactly. Joe. Thanks a lot, man. It's been an
Joseph Webb 1:21:51
honor. Gracious host.
Rich Bennett 1:21:52
friend.
Joseph Webb 1:21:52
My
Rich Bennett 1:21:52
Oh, the door's open and I have a crazy idea to run by you when we're done.
Joseph Webb 1:21:57
Ok.
Rich Bennett 1:21:58
Oh, man, take it easy, Joe.
Joseph Webb 1:21:59
Appreciate your rich. Thanks, guys.
Rich Bennett 1:22:01
Joe, I want to thank you for joining me and reminding us that some of the best opportunities in life can grow out of the plans that didn't work out. From nearly attending the Coast Guard Academy to building a career mortgage lending, Joe's journey shows what can happen when we remain open to a different path, and surround ourselves with mentors and people who believe in us along the way. What stood out to me was Joe's belief in genuine relationships. Whether he's helping someone understand their mortgage options or introducing us to another local story through Connected to the Web, his approach isn't about making a quick sale or collecting views. It's about listening, providing value, and helping people connect. In a world where so much communication has become rushed and impersonal, that of human connection matters, and how I really love Joe's answer about the superpower he would choose. Helping people see their own potential. Imagine what could happen if more of us held up that mirror for the people around us, especially those who cannot yet see in themselves with the rest of us already recognized. Of course, somewhere along the way we also discovered that good conversation can from mortgages and podcasting to bourbon, oysters, cigars, and perhaps even a future community tasting event. That's the beauty of an honest conversation. You never know where it will take you. Be sure to look for Connected to the Web, with Tubes of course, on YouTube and learn more about Joe's work with Leven's Home Mortgage. And follow along as he continues introducing us to the people, businesses, and stories that make our community special. Until next time, I'm Rich Bennett. Thanks for listening and remember, every great conversation starts with someone willing to listen and someone willing to share. Now as your turn, join the conversation by sharing this episode, leave in a comment, or reach out to me directly. Take care, be kind to one another, and I'll talk with you again soon.
